Just our of interest really.
Ours is up 4.75% this year, not unexpected in the current climate but this is the lowest it's been in my area for 10 years, usually 4.99%
We pay for greens bins separately, do you?

4.8%. Payments will now be £216 a month (over 10 months). 3 bedroom semi (rented). South east.
Green bins are separate and paid, optional.

@DonaldDuc 'Why should I (in a small northern town) pay much more in council tax than someone in London whose property is worth 3/4/5x mine'

Your council tax pays for local roads, local services, local adult social care. It's nothing to do with the value of your house.

I live in the south although not London. The fact that the estate agent attaches some random value to my house doesn't help me pay my council tax or other bills. And I can't sell it or where would I house my ds?

Council tax is 'supposedly' based on property value (although I suspect we will all agree the basis for determine value is absurd. Yet somehow where I live a band C will pay £2500 yet those in band C in Chelsea will pay £1400. This is just one of the many examples that could be given to highlight the issue

4.9% green bins are an optional extra around £80 per year.

Very expensive for the little services we get..

God there is so much wrong with this tax.

Not least of which is how increases are reported - BBC going on about "rising bills" etc - it's not a bill, it's a tax, and when it goes up it's a tax increase.

MrsBobtonTrent · 30/03/2024 19:58

5% but town council part went up nearly 30% despite them being absolutely pointless. Pay extra for garden waste.

It’s by far our most expensive monthly bill and it doesn’t feel worth it. I doubt there will even be adult social care by the time I am old enough. In the meantime the libraries are running down, the roads are diabolical, the school buses catch fire because they are so decrepit, the street bins are overflowing…
