Shareaway11 · 27/03/2024 23:31

Just our of interest really.
Ours is up 4.75% this year, not unexpected in the current climate but this is the lowest it's been in my area for 10 years, usually 4.99%
We pay for greens bins separately, do you?

£10 a month. Our friends who live over the border in a bankrupt council have had 20% and are paying way more than us and we are in a ‘niiice’ area

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/03/2024 20:55

199 a month over 10

FedUpMumof10YO · 29/03/2024 21:13

4.99% = £7 increase to £159 after 25% single person discount.

doneandone · 29/03/2024 21:17

Ours will be £146 a month over 12 months, gone up a tenner a month since last year.

AnneElliott · 29/03/2024 21:37

Mines up by nearly 6%. GLA has gone up significantly since we now have to pay for the privilege of having a transport system even if we don't use it!

Band E so over £300 per month now.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/03/2024 21:46

Haven't looked yet. But as my council is bankrupt and there are pot holes everywhere, then building a non essential cycle lane. Any rise Is sticking in my throat somewhat!

sansou · 29/03/2024 23:53

4.7%.
£350 pcm over 10 mths. Excludes garden waste bins which separately costs approx £50 each bin per year.

DiscoBeat · 29/03/2024 23:56

DiscoBeat · 28/03/2024 21:38

£3500 which is an increase but not sure how much.

Recycling is included, but not garden waste (we compost what we can and burn the rest)

justasking111 · 30/03/2024 00:09

10% last year. 10% this year. Four weekly refuse collection. Weekly recycling, pay extra for garden waste. Increase of £300 . So 3k for a three bedroom now.

Why should I (in a small northern town) pay much more in council tax than someone in London whose property is worth 3/4/5x mine

Because it is to pay for local services. In London you have a greater density of homes. Economies of scale as it were.

Meadowfinch · 30/03/2024 01:41

@DonaldDuc 'Why should I (in a small northern town) pay much more in council tax than someone in London whose property is worth 3/4/5x mine'

Your council tax pays for local roads, local services, local adult social care. It's nothing to do with the value of your house.

I live in the south although not London. The fact that the estate agent attaches some random value to my house doesn't help me pay my council tax or other bills. And I can't sell it or where would I house my ds?

Yodel294 · 30/03/2024 07:32

4.99%, to over £2500 for a small three bed terrace (London Borough).
Plus we are now charged £100 (ouch) for a fortnightly garden waste collection.

It is extremely likely that the cycle lane is being funded by a central government budget and it's either a cycle lane or nothing, not a cycle lane or potholes. You can find out by asking.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/03/2024 07:38

@littlegrebe thanks. That hadn't occurred to me. But you may well be right.

littlegrebe · 30/03/2024 07:38

I'm in Scotland and my council has been blackmailed into a freeze by the government, which means services are being cut. I'd rather pay a bit more.

Don’t worry those with second homes will be paying 100% more, so they’ll pay for supporting the local services.

Thehooligans · 30/03/2024 13:19

@Tarkan they took our glass away a couple of years ago and now have central big bins all over the place - if there’s a public car park/ playground with car park that’s where the bins will go. Garden waste we pay just under £40 pa for a monthly collection of we want it. All other bins get emptied entry

Won’t improve the services any though!

twobluechickens · 30/03/2024 13:26

Up by 8%, an extra £9/month even with my single person discount. I live in the most expensive council tax area in my county (through choice) but I'm not surprised ours has increased quite a lot, our council is struggling financially.

Cattrovert · 30/03/2024 13:27

Its actually gone down £5 per month, I was amazed😁

Pickles2023 · 30/03/2024 13:27

Bizarrely and i am baffled, ours has gone down 😅 200 to 159

Wowwellokthen · 30/03/2024 13:31

Mine is £4467.69 per year....scary....living in a family house not owned by me.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 30/03/2024 13:37

4.8% so now £267 a month.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 30/03/2024 13:37

Band F for a 3 bedroom bungalow, just because we have a large garden, but no pavements, or lights, or sewage, or gas, and the roads are like they were before the Romans invaded Britain!! Went up by £142 a year and we pay £305 a month from April, over 10 months. This is Hampshire County Council land that frankly does bugger all and is hugely in debt, yet wants more to continue doing what's led to the debt in the first place! Water up, insurance up, food not coming down, in fact everyone wanting their pound of flesh but wages in the UK stagnant for 20 years. Oh joy! I even have to pay for a parish council, that now does so little that the town has volunteers sweeping the streets!

Sounds just like us in N Wales band F three bed bungalow, no pavements. Around our patch we cut our own council verges. Monthly bin collection. Weirdly they're creating cycle paths so traffic lights everywhere but no-one is filling in the pot holes while they have access to closed roads.
