How long does a tub of table salt last you?

We have just finished one, the tall Saxa one, and I can't remember how long we have had it. I think more than 2 years though. I was saying to my DH that I don't know how they make a profit, and he thought other households go through them more quickly. So, just wondering, what is others usage? Trivial I know!

Years but I rarely add salt to anything

MerryChristmasToYou · 27/03/2024 13:58

You can use salt for lots of things. 21 Clever Things You Never Knew Table Salt Could Do | Lifehacker

I use quite a bit of salt as I make playdough and salt dough to play with at home.

i suspect mine is probably at least 10 years old! I have sea salt in the grinder but even that hardly gets used.

Devilsmommy · 27/03/2024 14:07

Ours has been in cupboard for about 18 months and it's still 2 thirds full

fluffycloudalert · 27/03/2024 14:08

I think it probably lasts around 10 years.

I was thinking of writing the date on this one and monitoring because I really don't know how long we had it

Many years BUT I also have flaked Maldon salt which I use much more often.

I might do that myself, I honestly didn't realise salt lasted so long, I'm 37yo btw🤣🤣🤣

CeeceeBloomingdale · 27/03/2024 14:12

About 5 years minimum

idontlikealdi · 27/03/2024 14:13

Years. Last bought a Saxa tub for rinsing when I had a tooth out and that must be at least ten years ago. Don't use table salt in cooking at all.

Shit loads of sales in icy places?

MerryChristmasToYou · 27/03/2024 14:19

Maybe they supply the food industry.

Reminds me of a joke I heard.

No idea, mine isn't even Saxa it's Asda own brand. It's mainly used for deicing the door step these days.

shellyleppard · 27/03/2024 14:28

Mines been going for about 3 years....only time I add salt is when I'm bread making

Username917778 · 27/03/2024 14:31

I obviously need to reduce my salt intake as I definitely buy tubs of sea salt a few times a year 😱

StarlightLady · 27/03/2024 14:38

For ever! I don't use salt in cooking or add it to food (health reasons) but always have some for visitors. I'm very much a 'herb girl' though.

NC03 · 27/03/2024 14:50

Bought a 570g tub of maldon last August and am about 1/3 of the way through it

EverybodyLTB · 27/03/2024 14:53

I regularly buy the massive tubs of Maldon sea salt. I season everything when cooking from scratch, though. I dread to think what unseasoned cooking is going on around here 😭

InTheTimeItTookMeToEatAnEggSandwich · 27/03/2024 14:54

We moved here nearly 8 years ago, we’ve bought one salt in all that time. I’ve just bought a new salt (one of these ) in anticipation of the old one finishing, although I bought it before Christmas and the old one is still going strong.

Ages - unless were regularly making pizza dough or bread then a few mths.

Leftleg · 27/03/2024 15:24

Used to last years but we get through it quicker since we got a pizza oven and make the dough, it requires quite a lot of salt.

Hoplolly · 27/03/2024 15:40

Years and years. I actually don't think i've ever got to the bottom of one but then I also have sea salt which I use more in cooking.

Lots of people avoid salt because of health reasons but it really makes a HUGE difference to the taste quality when you're cooking from scratch. I never really realised until I started properly seasoning dishes.
