Do hairdressers respond to WhatsApp messages?

Palmsun · 25/03/2024 20:03

I never got my hair dyed before. It's something I would like to do now. My hairdresser works for himself and I can't phone a salon and book him.

I had his number and it made sense to message him with my request and see if he could help me. It didn't make sense to phone him in case he was with a client working on her hair.

I sent him pictures and I mentioned what I was looking for and asked him could he help me. I don't know what what colouring devices are done. Would I need a consultation. He has that down for free on his online booking system. Is it a case where I book a consultation with him or would he tell me I need a consultation.

It doesn't make sense having a physical consultation when I could send him pictures and he was working on my head a few weeks ago for a trim. Surely a phone consultation could work.

Where does a strand test fit into it all? Does that happen on the day of the appointment or what.

I messaged him a few hours ago but he never responded. Surely the ball is in his court now to at least inform me what's next.

From his online booking system it looks like he doesn't work on Mondays. I wonder would it be because of that and could he still reply or do they ignore messages?

I sent him a message hours ago and it's now evening time and I got no reply.

Do you think he could still reply to me but maybe tomorrow.

Anyone else have a similar experience? Do hair dressers ignore sometimes.

He is a good hair colourist and he is always booked weeks in advance. It's usually impossible to get him.

I was ready to reply a sensible message but you’re very intense 🤣 give the poor guy a chance to respond! Then ask him if he can book you in or if you need to call the salon direct

KalaMush · 25/03/2024 20:07

If he doesn't work on Mondays it's perfectly reasonable for him to ignore your message until tomorrow. Maybe he has a separate phone he uses for work only and doesn't check on his days off?

BreakfastAtMimis · 25/03/2024 20:08

You're very impatient! It's his day off.

Is this a philosophical question? Like does a tree make a sound when it falls if there's noone there to hear it?

Rosecoffeecup · 25/03/2024 20:11

What kind of question is this 😭 how can anyone possibly answer this for you? Many different hair dressers will act in many different ways

colouredball · 25/03/2024 20:11

If he doesn't work on Mondays, and it's Monday...

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 25/03/2024 20:13

Take your business elsewhere OP as hairdressers are ten a penny if you inc mobile ones - so try someone else

Good luck

WarshipRocinante · 25/03/2024 20:13

Do you have other issues? Because this is very very odd.

The guy doesn’t work Mondays. Why do you think he would reply? Also, even if he does reply on days off… it’s been a few hours. Maybe he is busy doing things.

Why are you so intense? And why are you so worked up? Do you have a lot of stressful things going on in your life or something because it’s very strange to fixate like this and be so obsessed.

Crunchymum · 25/03/2024 20:14

Are you the scary poster who likes to be very intense with their hairdresser?

Mrssheepskin · 25/03/2024 20:16

I’m not quite sure what to respond to your post…. It is all very intense! Hairdressers, like anyone else, do not follow a rule book for the length of time in which they are allowed to respond to WhatsApp messages….! Like everyone else he will reply when he wants/can.

BoredAuditor · 25/03/2024 20:20

All hairdressers, every single one, ignore WhatsApp messages. Always. Every single one.

Honestly OP - you're v intense and impatient. Give the guy a break.

If you haven't heard back by the end of the week try your luck elsewhere or ring him for a chat.

Caterina99 · 25/03/2024 20:21

My hairdresser uses what’s app!

Seriously OP, it’s not been very long! Maybe he’s busy and hasn’t seen your message or will reply later? Maybe he’s ignoring you and doesn’t want your business? Who knows?!

ElaineMBenes · 25/03/2024 20:22

I've known my hairdresser for nearly 20 years. I consider her a friend.
Sometimes she takes a couple of days to respond to a message.

EndlesslyDistracted · 25/03/2024 20:23

You can't possibly generalise about whether hairdressers use whatsapp. Some will, some won't.

But assuming he does, it's his day off, so it's a bonus if he does answer, but perfectly normal and reasonable if he doesn't.

ManchesterBeatrice · 25/03/2024 20:24

You said yourself he doesn't work Mondays.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 25/03/2024 20:27

In this sort of situation I would look around the local area and see if I could find one of the 'A' board things you see outside shops.

Then pop down to B&Q (other DIY shops are available) buy some blackboard paint and chalk and write (on the borrowed 'A' board) "What the f*cks going on? Why don't you reply?" on the said 'A' board.

Then phone, on Tuesday, and politely ask "Did you see my message?"

Always worked for me.

Bluevelvetsofa · 25/03/2024 20:37

You’d need a strand test 48 hours before a colour.
You'd need a consultation to look at what colour you want and whether it’s possible on your hair.

Make an appointment for a consultation and strand test. Phone, or go to the salon.

Pineapplewaves · 25/03/2024 20:42

My hairdresser uses WhatsApp and can take days to reply, this is because she is working during the day and she spends her evenings and weekends with her husband and kids same as anyone else.

My local hair salon does a patch test for new clients wanting a hair dye - it has to be done at least 48 hours before your appointment just to check you are not allergic to the dye so you will have to go in to get that done. You could get it done at your consultation.

While you are waiting you could try some other salons, it's always get to get several prices and ideas.

Coconutter24 · 25/03/2024 21:04

If he doesn’t work Mondays surely you would expect a response on the Tuesday? If I’m not working Monday I certainly don’t deal with work stuff on my day off. Calm down and give him chance your coming across quite intense. I would just use the online booking system to book a consultation because you’d have to go in for patch test anyway which he would probably do at consultation

Humanswarm · 25/03/2024 22:11

From what you've written, I suspect he wants to colour your hair at 2.14 on April 19th, in the colour..0.198

Seriously, no one is going to know the answer to your questions. Relax and wait for response.

RMNofTikTok · 25/03/2024 22:18

Jesus I thought you were going to say you messaged him weeks ago not hours 😂 calm down!

How did you acquire his WhatsApp? Did he say that was an ok method of contact?

WarshipRocinante · 25/03/2024 22:40

Really OP, just use his online booking thing to book the consultation because your messages are pretty much asking all the things that will be covered. You’re just wasting his time.

EcstaticMarmalade · 25/03/2024 22:49

They decided as a collective not to. They had a meeting about it and everything.

Branwells77 · 01/04/2024 10:29

Ok so I am not hair dresser, however I don’t work on a Monday so I never check my work emails or my work phone on a Monday because I don’t work that day

Faith77 · 01/04/2024 10:36

Just send him another message with "?". Self employed sole traders love those messages and he is sure to reply to you immediately 😉
