Do hairdressers respond to WhatsApp messages?

Palmsun · 25/03/2024 20:03

I never got my hair dyed before. It's something I would like to do now. My hairdresser works for himself and I can't phone a salon and book him.

I had his number and it made sense to message him with my request and see if he could help me. It didn't make sense to phone him in case he was with a client working on her hair.

I sent him pictures and I mentioned what I was looking for and asked him could he help me. I don't know what what colouring devices are done. Would I need a consultation. He has that down for free on his online booking system. Is it a case where I book a consultation with him or would he tell me I need a consultation.

It doesn't make sense having a physical consultation when I could send him pictures and he was working on my head a few weeks ago for a trim. Surely a phone consultation could work.

Where does a strand test fit into it all? Does that happen on the day of the appointment or what.

I messaged him a few hours ago but he never responded. Surely the ball is in his court now to at least inform me what's next.

From his online booking system it looks like he doesn't work on Mondays. I wonder would it be because of that and could he still reply or do they ignore messages?

I sent him a message hours ago and it's now evening time and I got no reply.

Do you think he could still reply to me but maybe tomorrow.

Anyone else have a similar experience? Do hair dressers ignore sometimes.

He is a good hair colourist and he is always booked weeks in advance. It's usually impossible to get him.

Jesus have you no experience in making appointments or just interacting with humans in general? If he has an online booking system then book online, of course you will need a consultation and a strand test. Which would be up to 48 hours before your appointment. Of course he’s not going to get back to you on his day off. Do you work or interact with work on your days off?

I’m a hairdresser and I sure as hell wouldn’t be responding to you- full stop!!!

SimplyTheGuest · 01/04/2024 11:18

My hairdresser responds to WhatsApp but he doesn't work Mondays.
Most hairdressers take Sun/Mon off to make up for working Saturdays, probably their busiest day! Give the guy a break 😏

It's a long Bank Holiday weekend! He's probably just enjoying time away from work. I'd ignore any work related messages until it was a day I was working too. I'd calm down and give him a bit of time to answer.

olympicsrock · 01/04/2024 11:54

Chill please OP ! He’ll be running for the hills if you don’t

Got to be an April fool this!

She posted last week 😀

@Palmsun So we're waiting with bated breath. Did he reply.

If you don't let us know someone will ask every few hours til you do

Toottooot · 01/04/2024 12:25

We’ve been waiting over a week for a response from you and you have the nerve to greet aboot your hairdresser taking a few hours to respond. 🙄

ManchesterBeatrice · 01/04/2024 15:18

Maybe she's been ringing round hairdressing schools to find out what they teach about replying to WhatsApps, that's some pretty specific syllabus content

potato57 · 01/04/2024 16:07

Do you even know for sure he has whatsapp? I signed up for it ages ago and deleted the app.

IvorTheEngineDriver · 01/04/2024 16:53

he doesn't work on Mondays

There's your answer.

BronwenTheBrave · 01/04/2024 17:55

68% if hairdressers do. 32% don’t.

hottchocolate · 01/04/2024 18:00

You know hairdressers are all individuals right? Some may reply on WhatsApp and some may not but I'd expect to give him a couple of working days to reply. Today is a bank holiday.

TimesChangeAgain · 01/04/2024 19:52

Oh OP this is possibly my favourite mumsnet post ever.

I really am going to have to know what happened next though!

Newnamesameoldlurker · 01/04/2024 19:59

Aww I am actually a bit worried about the OP if this is real/serious- she sounds anxious and maybe ND. Don't want her to feel humiliated by these replies. OP if your post is real and you're still reading the responses- I hope he got back to you! If not, don't worry, just use the online booking system to book your next cut and ask him about the process for getting it dyed at that point. Best of luck!

Summerishere123 · 01/04/2024 20:15

It's not only a Monday, but a bank holiday. Leave it to tomorrow and if no response, text again, or find someone else. Test needs to be done a few days before to test for an allergic reaction to the dye.

You’ve not been around long enough to remember the ‘cup’ thread!

I worry that OP may be ND and MNs have jumped on her with very little empathy shown :(

Couldntthinkofausername24 · 02/04/2024 05:23

Crikey moses I was sweating reading this. Calm down for the love of God

On a side note, my hairdresser never responds it is very frustrating. It takes me a WhatsApp, text message and a message on tiktok to grab his attention. If I haven't been going to him for many years I would go somewhere else but sounds like all are the same

hangingonfordearlife1 · 02/04/2024 06:16

It’s monday- he’s not working AND it’s bank holiday!!!

Yup.

Lay off will you all.

PansyOatZebra · 02/04/2024 07:51

you are so intense and so overthinking this!

it’s his day off! He may also be on holiday… all sorts of reasons. Give him time to reply!

they can’t do a patch test the same day as appointment it needs to be 48 hours before.

Maddy70 · 02/04/2024 07:57

Jesus...calm down

He is either off as its his day off... or busy working

He will get back to you when he can. You are super intense

JustAnotherOpinion123 · 02/04/2024 12:41

This literally sounds like some of my dh's clients which is the only way i know its not a joke. I have to remind him to not respond to people on his days off because it sets a precedent and honestly, he needs the break. Even if your hairdresser does respond to messages on his day off, there are a million and one reasons why he didn't immediately respond. This week one of my dh's clients got shitty because he didn't respond... which was because our dc was rushed into hospital. Extreme example but remember that he's a human with a life, not a WhatsApp robot.

But to answer your sensible questions, the consultation isn't so much for you as it is for the hairdresser. You can send all the pictures through but your hairdresser has no idea whether what you've sent is even possible on your hair (e.g. if you have very very dark hair and want to go platinum blonde), what the condition of your hair is, how long it is and therefore how long the appointment is going to take etc. You will need a strand test too but no point booking that in until the hairdresser knows how long it's going to take to do it and therefore when they've got space to do it.

You may even find if he's booked weeks in advance that he may not be in a position to take on anyone new...
