How much do you drink during the day?

curtainsformee · 23/03/2024 13:22

I'm constantly feeling tired /hungover on a morning and I think maybe I'm not drinking enough fluids.
Il have a cup of tea on a morning -and drink half
Then a 500ml bottle of water a day (sometimes don't even drink it all )
Could this be why I'm tired all the time ?

Definitely could be that although saying that when you don’t drink a lot of water your body doesn’t seem to need it as much? Before I turned water drinker I could just drink some milk juice or a fizzy drink and be fine, then after starting to drink 1-2 l a day the days I didn’t I’d feel like I was dried out, run down, the lot!

ohpumpkinseeds · 23/03/2024 14:19

I drink about 4 litres of very dilute no added sugar squash, plus one coffee first thing and usually a few decaf teas through the day. I take a medication that makes me get really bad headaches if I don't drink lots though.

gamerchick · 23/03/2024 14:23

Loads now. I can tell if I don't drink enough.

You get fluids from foods as well and the best way to tell is from your wee.

Feel sorry for people's skin and kidneys to dont drink enough. They must feel like crap most of the time.

gamerchick · 23/03/2024 14:25

Also, those who claim they don't feel thirsty tend to feel it as hunger. So they eat more than they need.

AdoraBell · 23/03/2024 14:27

Usually 3x coffee, 3x tea and a couple of small glasses of water.

YouDidntEvenAskIfSheWasThereMoriarty · 23/03/2024 14:29

Usually about ten pints of water, maybe more. I'm constantly thirsty, so I never leave the house without water and there's always a glass of water next to me at home.

I don't have diabetes or anything. I think I've just always drunk so much water that I feel parched if I can't get it.

I can definitely see the benefits at my age. I have relatively few wrinkles at 40 and I rarely get blemishes or dry lips.

That's really interesting. All the advice when trying to lose weight it to check that you're not actually thirsty first.

I'm often thirsty - but not for water. I think I should be drinking more of it, I just don't. I want to want it, like I want tea. I just don't.

Penguinsa · 23/03/2024 14:33

I drink 2 litres a day, normally as tea with milk and sparkling water with lime.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 23/03/2024 14:34

I drink 2-2.5 litres of water a day. I started last year when I was having my kidney function tested. Drinking more water made a significant improvement.

LightSwerve · 23/03/2024 13:31

Your consumption is less than half the recommended amount, you need 2 litres per day.

Start today, at least it is an easy fix.

2 litres has never been the recommended amount

Karatema · 23/03/2024 14:41

I'm dreadful, only 3 coffees a day!
Yes, my wee looks like lucozade 😟

GivingOutYards · 23/03/2024 16:04

You don't need 2 litres a day, it's a total myth. www.scotsman.com/health/how-much-water-should-you-drink-a-day-3974843

Have you a source for this?

Always happy to re-learn things, I was told it by a GP and the NHS still advises 6-8 glasses/drinks, which is what I was told would = 2 litres.

Is your Google broken?

Google will provide you with 100 different sources all saying different things. It's not always that helpful.

Instantcustard · 23/03/2024 18:55

I'm like you OP. I can quite easily forget to drink all day.

SallyWD · 23/03/2024 19:05

You drink very little OP. I probably drink about 3 litres a day.

BellaVita · 23/03/2024 19:07

One cup of coffee and around 3-4 cups hot water.

fishfingersandtoes · 23/03/2024 19:09

2 cups coffee
3 x 500ml flasks of herbal tea
& A few cans of non alcoholic beer or large cups of red bush tea on a night

BarrelOfOtters · 23/03/2024 19:09

My wee is pale. I drink about 10 cups of tea….plus water. My DSS 20 year old has wee the colour of lucozade…complaints of migraine and tiredness a lot. Doesn’t drink anything other than fizzy drinks and beer…

Just wondering if you had any evidence that it was true, there's a lot of misinformation around this type of topic.

UnravellingTheWorld · 23/03/2024 19:31

Wow you're definitely not taking in enough! It's surprising how much better you feel after drinking water.

Admittedly I was only having three large glasses a day, but this week I have upped it to six large glasses, plus hot drinks. I'm really making a conscious effort to drink more

WaterWeasel · 23/03/2024 19:35

Loads compared to some posters here.

Around 6 mugs decaff coffee a day and maybe 4 mugs decaff tea. Around 3l water a day - sometimes closer to 2.

TheChosenTwo · 23/03/2024 19:38

2 litres of water just as water (not in tea/coffee/squash etc), I don’t drink anything else other than alcohol - I have a 1 litre bottle that gets filled and drunk twice through the day and then I drink more water in glasses during the evening.
I feel like shite if I’m dehydrated in the slightest!
