How much do you drink during the day?

I'm constantly feeling tired /hungover on a morning and I think maybe I'm not drinking enough fluids.
Il have a cup of tea on a morning -and drink half
Then a 500ml bottle of water a day (sometimes don't even drink it all )
Could this be why I'm tired all the time ?

Yes that makes sense; I don’t think you are drinking nearly enough. I have 4-5 teas a day plus probably 2-3 litres of water.

DeathMetalMum · 23/03/2024 19:41

Two cups of tea and probably two cups of water, more like four in the summer. Generally my wee is fairly pale. I'd be on the toilet none stop if I drank more, I'd also feel bloated.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 23/03/2024 19:51

I don’t remember last time I drank water. I had a glass of dilute juice last week. I drink about 6-8 coffees a day, black. Maybe 2-3 cans of fizzy pop.

I’m experiencing symptoms of kidney stones which I can’t get a gp appointment for. I wonder if drinking more water will help.

FizzyStream · 23/03/2024 20:00

I get through a 2L bottle of sparkling water a day and three coffees

I literally never feel thirst, ever.
I have a can of red bull in the morning and a couple of cans of Pepsi max a day. I can’t even remember the last time I had squash/water. I drink the above for the taste 🤷‍♀️

I’m never thirsty either. Even when we lived in the Med, my daily liquid was a cup of tea in the morning and a glass of lemonade with my evening meal.

Now we live at a higher altitude I try for 3 pint of liquid a day, but it’s difficult.

Just wondering if you had any evidence that it was true, there's a lot of misinformation around this type of topic.

See, the thing is. I don't actually give a toss whether people believe me or not. I don't feel a burning need to 'prove it'. If something sparks some sort of radar then it's up to the person to seek out that particular info. Im not the spoon feeding type I am however a big agog on a daily basis at the lack of common sense. Humans are a decent % made of water and many seem to think a gobful or liquid is enough.

But frankly , I don't care flower. It's not my kidneys and nor is it my fat cells.

Snowpaw · 23/03/2024 20:21

1 coffee, 1 tea, 1 herbal tea and probably between 2-3 pints of water (I don't work in litres!)

space99 · 23/03/2024 20:28

I have one tea, one coffee, at least 1.5 litres of water and then a peppermint tea. I even have to drink water at night as I feel thirsty if I don’t. This has been since my first pregnancy when I felt constant thirst.

UtterlyButterly2048 · 23/03/2024 20:32

3-4 coffees every morning then between 4 and 5 litres of water or sugar free squash every day. More if I drink any alcohol on top. I have a cardiologist prescribed high sodium diet though, so it’s a constant balance between enough salt and enough water.

Mintearo7 · 23/03/2024 20:38

2-3 litres water, 2-3 cups of tea. Always had dry skin so water intake has been a focus for me. Wee should be the colour of champagne not apple juice. Bit gross but I check mine as I like to know I’m hydrated enough which I usually am.

SpringOfContentment · 23/03/2024 20:44

Yeah! I've found my camels people.
I don't drink enough. I have to remember to drink through routine. So a large glass (400ml?) with breakfast, 500ml bottle with lunch / large glass if at home. Try to remember to have a glass when I get in from work, but usually fail, and glass with dinner. Mainly water, unless out and about.
It has the advantage of only needing the (grim) loos at work once a day.

Helpisso · 23/03/2024 20:45

i definitely don’t drink enough. Tend to drink only when thirsty which is definitely the wrong way round.
2 mugs tea/ coffee, glass o water when thirsty and probably another mug tea in the evening . So about 1.5 altogether.
probably explains why I am wrinkly as well!! Am going to up my game from tomorrow!!

Oblomov24 · 23/03/2024 20:49

I've been drinking more water (2L) for the last month or so and don't feel any better. Plus 6 cups of tea, a Diet Coke, lemon and hot water. None of it makes any difference.

smithson999 · 23/03/2024 20:59

The how does everyone remember to drink that much water? I am
rushing round and I forget about drinking water and also I think I would have to keep breaking off from what I'm going I chug water. Any tips?

And are you up all night desp for a wee?

Onand · 23/03/2024 21:04

Around 3-4 litres of water per day and one coffee. No sodas or alcohol. How people function with no water is beyond me.

Finosaurtea · 23/03/2024 21:08

YouDidntEvenAskIfSheWasThereMoriarty · 23/03/2024 14:29

Usually about ten pints of water, maybe more. I'm constantly thirsty, so I never leave the house without water and there's always a glass of water next to me at home.

I don't have diabetes or anything. I think I've just always drunk so much water that I feel parched if I can't get it.

I can definitely see the benefits at my age. I have relatively few wrinkles at 40 and I rarely get blemishes or dry lips.

Seriously? 10 pints? Aren't you in the bathroom from dawn til dusk?

NailsHairNipsHeels · 23/03/2024 21:25

I'm terrible and regularly end the day with a sore head I have a coffee first thing in the morning, a can of juice around lunch and a glass of diluting juice with dinner
In total probably about 1.5l of liquid.
I know I should drink more but I sometimes can't physically leave my desk at work so don't drink much there to be safe.

GivingOutYards · 23/03/2024 21:33

I drink when I'm thirsty, don't count it, mostly tea and coffee, feel fine, am 60 now and can't say it's ever been an issue.

saintsript · 23/03/2024 21:52

One of my jobs is to insert a camera in to the nose and examine the throat / voice box and also examine the oral cavity.

Every single person with dryness, redness, chronic coughing and throat clearing, reflux, thick sticky secretions, thrush, altered throat sensation etc all drink similarly (cups of coffee or tea, the odd soft drink, minimal water) and none of them feel the damage I see, it's totally normalised. You can literally see the dehydration they are suffering and they have no idea, claim they are never thirsty. The rest of their body will be the same.

So yes, drinking plenty of non caffeinated fluids daily is essential for health on so many levels.

I keep a cup at the sink in the bathroom and every time I use the loo I have a big drink at the sink to replenish what I've lost.

DaoineSidhe · 23/03/2024 22:03

@YouDidntEvenAskIfSheWasThereMoriarty
10 pints Jesus?! You might be washing out vital vitamins and stuff at that level and the stress on your kidneys must be huge. Are u sure it is that much?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 23/03/2024 22:05

3 litres of water. More if going to the gym. Also various amounts of coffee, tea, herbal tea. DH doesn’t drink much water either.

DaoineSidhe · 23/03/2024 22:08

Paracelsus: 'Everything is a poison, nothing is a poison. It is the dose that makes the poison'
Too much water is a poison, @teaandtoastwithmarmite 3 litres is probably upper end of ok but beyond that...

AQuantityOfNaughtyCats · 23/03/2024 22:19

Loads. 4 litres of water or more plus other drinks every day. But on meds that cause a constant dry mouth. Im constantly thirsty. Not diabetic- recently tested.
