Just listening to Harry Potter for the millionth time and realised it's never mentioned if all the little wizards and witches who are non muggle ever go to wizarding Primary Schools ?

I'm sure there's lots of other unanswered HP questions we can try and get to the bottom of invent for our own amusement

They don’t need to answer the door. The witch or wizard would just apparate inside…

With shoes on or off?

Ohhh good point! Could they do apparating with shoes off? Did they care?

Apparating shoes off - as in, removing one’s shoes in the act of apparition, not simply apparating while unshod - would technically be splinching. But I bet Dumbledore could apparate into a house leaving his shoes neatly outside should the need arise, then dispparate right back into them. Because Dumbledore.

AcrossthePond55 · 24/03/2024 16:11

Well, they could just apparate inside, shoes or no shoes, but as Dumbledore explained to Harry when 'visiting' Slughorn, it's unspeakably rude to apparate into someone's home. He said it was the same as a muggle 'kicking down the front door'.

Not that that would stop the proverbial MN MiL. My MiL was a dream, but can you imagine those with 'questionable' iLs (or parents) having them suddenly appear in one's living room? Or appearing in the fireplace to complain "Have you put a Fidelius Charm on your house? I can't find it!!!".

No that was just in the films as they mention a boy from beauxbatons in the books.

Yes, both Beauxbatons and Durmstrang are mixed schools in the novels.

One of the most outrageous (and completely unnecessary) alterations in the film of Goblet of Fire is not so much making Durmstrang all boys and macho and Bb all girls, it’s the entrance into the Hall of the newly-arrived Beauxbatons girls, which is unbelievably sexualising, especially given that these are underage kids. While Durmstrang march in impressively, the abb girls dance their way in, in high heels, sighing languorously, dressed in figure-fitting robes like Sexy Secretaries from some cosplay event, with the camera focusing unambiguously on their asses as they run up towards the stage, emitting butterflies. And in case we didn’t get that these are Sexy French Girls Who Don’t Appear to be Any Great Shakes At Magic, we get Dumbledore telling us they’re the ‘lovely ladies of Beauxbatons’.

I mean, I get that this is probably partly a way at hinting at Fleur DelaCour’s Veela heritage (which is left out of the films), but given that JKR’s fictional world gives us Hermione, and a lot of female characters who aren’t viewed primarily as female, and doesn’t in generalise sexualise Hogwarts girls, the film arrival of Beauxbatons is more like something from a Carry On film.

It really is @DidoKaftan but now I’m imagining a Carry On x Harry Potter crossover/unholy collision & it’s deeply disturbing. Kenneth Williams as Severus Snape anyone? Joan Sims for Mrs Weasley? Charles Hawtrey as either Quirrell or Fudge? The idea of Sid James as Dumbledore… 😶 Peter Butterworth as Mr Weasley & obviously Hattie Jacques as Madam Pomfrey. Bernard Bresslaw was 6’7” so obvious choice for Hagrid. Kenneth Connor would make a good Mundungus Fletcher…

the80sweregreat · 24/03/2024 18:40

Carry on Harry Potter !
Can you imagine how that would have played out !! 😂
I think it would have been so funny.
Sadly most of the cast of those films have died , but I can see Sid James as Dumbledore in his robes !

Mrs Scrunge's school for speech and drama for your exceptionally talented children. Or other similar schools. Acquire your glitz and charm here, the rest follows naturally.

I’m not a Brit and have only ever seen Carry On Camping, but I bow to your knowledge!

GrandTheftWalrus · 24/03/2024 22:17

Leslie Philips who was a carry on actor was the voice of the sorting hat!

A vast number of witches and wizards are employed in the public sector - the ministry for magic, the school, the hospital. I wonder how they'd all be faring under 14 years of Tory cuts and the cost of living crisis. They don't seem to use much electricity so they've got that going for them I suppose.

CatHerderSupreme · 29/03/2024 15:31

Maybe the Malfoys would be trying to privatise health care with extortionate prices?

And raise Voldemort Added Tax of course!
