Subjective I know but I need help to choose a really nice white wine as a present ..

I know the recipient well enough to know they enjoy drinking wine and am looking to spend around £15-20 mark , give or take.

Please can you recommend me a really good wine..

Thank you!

I like Sauvignon Blanc and usually drink New Zealand ones but if I'm spending a bit more, there are some good SA ones at this price point. I love Springfield.

South African Chenin is also excellent and while I haven't had this exact bottle, I'd feel pretty optimistic about it

Rustenberg Chardonnay is a great choice if you like your chardonnays.

Any particular brand?

Gevurtstraminer (from Alsace).
Spicy and slightly Demi Sec, perfect with Chinese or Indian food, or just on its own.

Agree Dark Horse Chardonnay is v nice

The Wolftrap White - a South African wine

Dorsetlover · 23/03/2024 11:54

It's too subjective - I like white wine but wouldn't be thrilled with an oaky chardonnay or a Sauvingon blanc - I like crisp and metallic. Why not spend a bit more and get her a Wine Society membership- it lasts a lifetime and gives her access to lots of fab reasonably priced wines (as it's a member run co-op). I give this a gifts a lots, often with a bottle or two, and it's great to have access to.

Pouilly Fumé for a special occasion
Sancerre also lovely and Chablis nice too

Notstrongandstable · 23/03/2024 12:53

Agree with PP I hate oaky chardonnays and Sauvignon blancs!

mitogoshi · 23/03/2024 12:54

Chablis is my go to £15 gets a really decent bottle from Lidl. Pinching well above its price point.

DillDanding · 23/03/2024 12:58

Another vote for Dog Point SB. I have just bought 6 from majestic. £22.99 each. I also bought 6 Cloudy Bay which I like nearly as much as Dog Point.

Papyrophile · 23/03/2024 12:59

I like Spanish and Italian whites, and at that price you should get a very nice bottle, that's a bit different. Albarino or godello if Spanish: I like some of the Sicilian whites too, but would take advice from a proper wine merchant if you have one.

merlotmerlin · 23/03/2024 13:46

A Cremant, it is made in same way as Champagne, but with different wines, I like the Saumur, a fuller flavour, much less risk of that sharp edge that one can find in Champers

Gerwurtztraminer · 23/03/2024 13:56

Go into a proper independent wine shop & give the budget. They'll recommend some options. If you know the type she likes even better.

ASighMadeOfStone · 23/03/2024 13:58

It'd be Verdicchio or Greco di Tufo for me. But I do agree it's very subjective.

HavfrueDenizKisi · 23/03/2024 13:59

Any Chablis, Sancerre, pouilly fumé or pouilly fuisse are my favourites.

mirror245 · 23/03/2024 14:06

I prefer a Marlborough. My favourites are villa Maria and Brancott estate. A lower price point than yours though.

MonsteraMama · 23/03/2024 14:07

Bogle Viognier is my all time favourite white. I'm typically a red wine drinker though so not sure if my white wine palate is very sophisticated or not 😂 I just like Bogle wines a lot and the Viognier is nice and fruity and fresh.
