Subjective I know but I need help to choose a really nice white wine as a present ..

I know the recipient well enough to know they enjoy drinking wine and am looking to spend around £15-20 mark , give or take.

Please can you recommend me a really good wine..

Thank you!

I really like the New Zealand Oyster Bay White wines. Probably a bit under your budget though. Think they're about £10-11

ScierraDoll · 23/03/2024 14:15

I'd go for a pouilly or a cement
If you want a decent white it has to be French

CultOfTheAirFryer · 23/03/2024 14:15

£15-20 isn’t going to get a “really nice” white wine. You’re just out the cheap seats, and it’s so subjective in this area.

Agree wine society membership could be great, if they don’t already have it. Or a bottle of English sparkling.

Springfield Life from Stone - wondeful, very dry, about right for your budget.

PurpleFlower1983 · 23/03/2024 14:21

Cloudy Bay is also good although it can vary by the year.

my favourite if I’m having white

ElizabethVonArnim · 23/03/2024 14:25

This one is a nice New Zealand sauvignon blanc www.pdnwines.com/product/pretty-paddock-sauvignon-blanc/

Ihateboris · 23/03/2024 14:43

Sancerre
Cloudy Bay..bloody gorgeous!

Floofydawg · 23/03/2024 14:59

M&S Chablis, or a Gavi de Gavi.

Notstrongandstable · 23/03/2024 12:53

Pouilly Fumé for a special occasion
Sancerre also lovely and Chablis nice too

These are my three favourite wines!
Tesco does a lovely petite Chablis for 12 quid on clubcard.

Seriouslywhatstheactualpoint · 23/03/2024 15:53

What Id recommend here : Sancerre or Chablis

hard not to like and classy

what I’d personally like: Gruner Veltliner or Picpoul. Both minerally and go well with seafood.

piscofrisco · 23/03/2024 16:08

Sancerre

piscofrisco · 23/03/2024 16:08

Or Chablis

JayAlfredPrufrock · 23/03/2024 16:09

Chablis

Pouilly Fumé for a special occasion
Sancerre also lovely and Chablis nice too

Another vote for Pouilly Fumé (or 'Smokey chicken' as it's called in our house Smile)

skippy67 · 23/03/2024 20:39

Picpoul de pinet.

JustJessi · 23/03/2024 21:20

Go to a wine merchant ask for a recommendation for a Sancerre or Pouilly Fume.
Greywhacke is a great shout too.

I think Chablis and Chardonnay are too subjective.

LollipopViolet · 23/03/2024 21:31

Sancerre - my absolute favourite if it's on a wine list.

That Wine Society membership looks great though - keeping that in mind for a good friend's birthday in September. He's my wine guy - if I want to order and don't know what to go for, he knows me enough to give fantastic recommendations!

embolass · 23/03/2024 21:38

Vouvray - absolutely lovely
Not oaky, weak or sharp. So full of flavour, rounded and around £7/8 Asda and Tesco both sell it. Goes with everything

Maddy70 · 23/03/2024 21:38

Vedejo

Blackdahlisthebest · 24/03/2024 14:29

I love a good Viognier but at the moment haven't found one that I really like. Last one I really liked was a S African one - but it's not as good now.

Papyrophile · 24/03/2024 16:26

This week's favourite is Coto de Obedo, which is a northern Spanish blend of Treixadura, godello and loureiro grapes. For 8.99 it is a really good bottle, that I think would appeal to anyone who likes the chardonnay/viognier style. It is only going to be available temporarily.

lapochette · 29/03/2024 07:51

I tried the M&S Sancerre someone recommended on here and can confirm it's lovely. Also bought the Lidl Chablis but haven't tried it yet. I love a Cloudy Bay Sauv Blanc and have tried a few different SB to find a similar but cheaper alternative and can recommend Kirklands Ti Point Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc from Costco which is less than a tenner
