So that will hopefully shut people up. Poor Catherine, really hope she’s ok.

Fast recovery Kate 💐

Topseyt123 · 22/03/2024 19:01

I've listened to her statement. It's very sad and I think she is very brave.

I hope her chemo goes as smoothly as it can and that she makes a full recovery. I wish her and her family all the very best.

William must be extremely worried. He lost his mother when still young and now both his father and his wife are undergoing cancer treatment.

I do hope that all of the conspiracy theorists will shut up now, but I fear that they will be back. They are all disgusting, and so far up their own arses that you can't see their faces anymore.

Maybe one day you’ll see that in cases like this, it’s just way of continuing to gossip about something, while pretending you’re not like the others. It’s bollocks.

No. Gossip has a very clear definition. Discussion regarding a public statement is a different thing.

maybe you wouldn’t be quite so worked up if you took the time to learn the difference.

Can we ask again for all the conspiracy threads to be pulled?
This is Mumsnet … Kate is a mother can we at last show some consideration and respect.

CuttingMeOpenthenHealingMeFine · 22/03/2024 19:05

So sad, I hope she recovers quickly.

Cancer is a disease that doesn’t discriminate between rich and poor. You can’t pay your way out of it, it’s not like she will get a better grade of chemo than anyone else. Better care yes but lots of people pay for Private healthcare it isn’t exclusive to the royals.

I sympathise with anyone who is diagnosed with cancer, however the PoW will obviously be spoken about than the majority of other cancer patients as she is in the public eye, as are her family. It’s not that no one cares about anyone else’s suffering.

Everythinggreen · 22/03/2024 19:05

Agreed, hope the disgusting people who started witch hunts and terrible rumours, many of which were rampant here, are satisfied with themselves. Hounding a mother with cancer to announce it to the world knowing the media arw going to be jumping on it left right and centre.

Yeah well done!

RunningThroughMyHead · 22/03/2024 19:09

This is sad and shocking news. I truly hope she recovers quickly and is back fighting fit very soon. My thoughts go to her loved ones.

On the issue of "trolls" or those discussing conspiracy reasons for her absence before this announcement, I personally don't think they did anything wrong. The vast majority of humans gossip, it's natural to speculate, especially when things don't quite add up. I can see why the palace didn't announce it sooner as they wanted the kids to have time to process privately, but they can't be surprised that people started guessing what was wrong. I find it hypocritical that people can gossip and it's ok if it turns out they're right, but if they're wrong (like now) suddenly they should be ashamed to have gossiped. No one predicted Kate had cancer.

It's very sad, I truly hope for a positive outcome.

I don't think she's announcing it because of random members of the public gossiping. She probably has 1) because she's not going to be back to work after Easter like she planned and 2) to stop the chances of it being leaked and coming out another way.

I hardly think she gives a toss what people were guessing. No one was hounding a mother with cancer as no one knew she had cancer. They were speculating over the unknown, which is extremely common and normal behaviour.

Of course it's all contributed to it. The immense speculation in the media heavily fuelled and encouraged by the public on social media, giving them even more confidence to continue. People were told she was recovering and would be back after Easter and still they went on and on. There's no excuses and I hope everyone who was speculating feels embarrassed at how they went on.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 22/03/2024 19:16

I suspect someone has leaked her medical records for money and the pressure has been put on to say publicly what is wrong.

I know the difference. I also know when people are pretending they’re different in order to justify talking about it. OP must have seen the announcement and rushed straight on here, I know what that says to me. OP wouldn’t have even gave digested it before she was writing her thread to try to look like she cared. Lovely. Not.

I thought this. That the media knew, having found out from hospital staff.

Sigh. Are we going to have 40 pages of people going on and on about the gossiping in a vain attempt to feel better about themselves for NOT doing it?

The media whipped up quite the shitstorm to fuel it all because it generates clicks and therefore ad revenue.

But she won't be back after Easter, she's only just started the chemotherapy. Hence she's released an update.

Gossip as always happened, that's probably why you and I are both on Mumsnet! It always has and it always will. Kate won't be concerned about that, it's hardly new. She's been gossiped about ever since she met William.

I don't understand this outcry and damnation of the gossipers, extremely hypocritical given most people do it. No one knew she had cancer, had they, I'm sure people wouldn't have gossiped as you can see on the various boards; people now feel very sad for her. Fingers crossed the cancer was caught early and the treatment can be successful.

In all honesty, plenty of us were saying it was cruel and out of order well before it was “known” that the conspiracies were wrong. I mean it was pretty obvious they were mostly far-fetched; but nevertheless they hadn’t been categorically shown to be wrong.

Uhuh…. But it’s still not gossip.

Given you’ve already stated yourself you ‘don’t get it’ I’m not sure what you’re so confident about when sussing out someone else’s motives and then determined that you’re the right one to scold them.

Agree. I can’t imagine what sort of person hears this and rushes to mumsnet within seconds to start a thread.

It’s ghoulishness dressed up as concern. OP kept her post short ensuring her a good chance of being first to post. Sickening.

There was a thread once when a football player collapsed on the pitch, in their desperate attempt to gossip and be first to post, the OP spelt his name wrong. People are awful.

I think it was Distinguished but extinguished is hopefully a prophetic Freudian slip …

Its all been so cruel. But after all, those pennies of tax …

It was quite deliberate. I couldn’t think of anything to alter in the other one.

The pp is spot on. OP was here within seconds posting. She wouldn’t have even taken the news in properly and was typing. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I don’t think it’s driven by ghoulishness or concern, anymore than watching the news is generates the same kind of discussion. It’s just making sense of the world around you.

I do think indulging in gossip and conspiracy is ghoulishness often dressed up as concern which is what has been fuelled by the media in recent weeks.

I think mixing the two stunts discussion where it’s merited and justified and in turn impinges on freedoms to speak. The princess releasing a statement is done with the expectation, thereby consent, that her words will be discussed.

FlowerBarrow · 22/03/2024 19:43

I imagine reason 3) for announcing today is her children have just finished school for 3 weeks so hopefully all will have blown over amongst the other children by the time they go back

How can you possibly not understand the criticism of the gossipers? It wasn’t just gossip, it was properly vicious conjecture. They were called liars. People were even trying to leverage republican type arguments off the back of it: “here they are being lazy again” etc etc. When you’ve been told someone is ill it’s basic unkindness to start bitching about them.
