What drinks do you always have in the house?

At the risk of sounding crackers, I find offering drinks to guests (family aside) really quite stressful! Partly because I don’t drink normal tea (I drink occasional green tea) or coffee so hate making it.

If I am expecting visitors I tend to panic buy drink options. If I have unexpected ones that’s even worse!

What would you say is “normal” to always have in? Not alcoholic drinks, I mean teas, coffee, soft.

DD is having more playdates now so it’s generally mums and kids that I don’t know well and often quite last minute.

Tea bags and loose, coffee beans and emergency instant.
Ribena and a couple of those mini squah things (which may be out of date)
Full sugar coke, fever tree light tonic, and lemonade, odd can of ginger beer or San Pellegrano

SevenSeasOfRhye · 22/03/2024 13:20

Tea and coffee, fruit juice.

Tisfortired · 22/03/2024 13:21

Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, Pepsi max, squash (usually peach fruit and barley) and fresh apple juice.

Without fail I have these drinks available at all times 😂

TheTempest · 22/03/2024 13:24

tea, green and normal, coffee instant decaf and various Nespresso pods, squash. Milk and usually some form of fizzy as well. And a metric fuckton of various booze as we hardly ever drink at home but have an incredible amount of it!

WhatTheFuckIsThat · 22/03/2024 13:25

Decaffeinated coffee
Decaffeinated tea
about 5 different fruit teas
lemonade
blackcurrant squash

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 22/03/2024 13:28

Tea, bags and loose for the pot, coffee instant and ground, various herbal and fruit teas, hot chocolate, bottlegreen cordial, often sparkling water, if we have children coming I make sure we've got fruit juice or the cawston cartons. There's usually some san Pellegrino cans in the shed. There's usually a bottle of squash in the cupboard but DS doesn't like it and we don't drink it so I may have gone to use it in the past and realised it's a year out of date.....
Also I buy one bottle of cream soda a week, you have to be very special to be offered that as DH is a bit obsessed.

Eyesopenwideawake · 22/03/2024 13:32

Coffee (bean to cup machine) for DP
Tea bags for me
Gin/tonic
Vodka/diet coke
Red/white wine
Various homemade fruit liqueurs
Rum
Port

No squash or juice though. Not healthy. 😂

FrangipaniBlue · 22/03/2024 13:37

Warm - Tea, coffee, decaf coffee, hot chocolate, horlicks

Cold - lemonade, juice/cordial, fresh orange juice and fresh apple juice

Alcoholic - usually some kind of cider, beer/lager and Prosecco or wine lying about

Fridaysgirl17 · 22/03/2024 13:42

We have tea, coffee, squash (2 flavours), diet coke,7up free, flavoured water

Fixerupper77 · 22/03/2024 14:04

We are a thirsty family! We have:

Filtered chilled water
At least three flavours of squash
A bottle of fizzy drink
Fresh juice at the weekends
Tea - regular, fancy, fruity
Coffee - instant (for my mum when she visits) coffee beans as husband a coffee snob

We dont tend to drink alcohol unless its a special occasion but we've got some bottles of prosecco and champagne that we probably got from work at christmas and a few bottles of spirits that are like 5 years old.

But also, if I popped to a friends house, I am TOTALLY fine with just having water! I cant imagine being rude or presumptuous enough to be annoyed at what was on offer.

citrinetrilogy · 22/03/2024 14:05

Instant coffee (Nescafe) and also their decaf version.
Tetley teabags, and decaf as well.
Cadburys drinking chocolate.
Usually at least one carton of fruit juice - at the moment apple.
I think there is a bottle of Ribena knocking about somewhere.
Several cans of diet Coke.
Semi-skimmed milk.
Occasionally we have oat milk too.
Cat milk 😂

If none of that lot suits, there is always the tap.

TarantinoIsAMisogynist · 22/03/2024 14:06

Tea (black, herbal, lots of different types)
Filter coffee
Espresso
Milk (full fat)
Tap water
Hot chocolate (in the form of grated 100% dark chocolate rather than a pre-mixed powder).

betterangels · 22/03/2024 14:11

Black and herbal teas. Coffee pods for the machine. Instant coffee. Hot chocolate pods. Peach or elderflower ice tea. Juice or squash for children if I know my friends will bring theirs around.

shellyleppard · 22/03/2024 14:13

Tea (normal and fruit) , coffee, hot chocolate and lots of fruit squash (teenage sons)

Anoisagusaris · 22/03/2024 15:02

Comedycook · 22/03/2024 12:03

I'm surprised how many people don't have juice at home....we get through loads of it.

I was a bit 🤔when we went round to a relatives house a while ago and they only had water available

We never buy juice (I presume you mean fresh apple/orange juice etc?)

Will usually have squash though.

Papyrophile · 22/03/2024 15:18

Tea, builder's and Earl Grey
Coffee: instant, ground and Nespresso capsules (including decaf)
Milk
Fizzy water
Squash
Tomato juice and coconut water, occasionally orange juice.
Red/white wine and lager, plus AF lager

CactusMactus · 22/03/2024 15:19

Tea, wine, coffee, beer, water (fizzy and tap) for adults/
Water and cows milk for kids. (Milk alternatives are rubbish for kids teeth).

Abra1t · 22/03/2024 15:23

Talipesmum · 22/03/2024 12:06

We sometimes have it but it tends to get forgotten in the fridge as we always just have water with meals.

We never have juice in unless we have people staying as it's not really very good for you and I'd rather just drink water.

Floralnomad · 22/03/2024 15:25

We always have breakfast tea , green tea , hot chocolate ( instant and made with milk ) , cappuccinos , instant coffee , Pepsi max , bottled water , fizzy flavoured water , cranberry juice and at least 4 varieties of Squash . We have no alcohol in the house as none of us drink .

GameOfJones · 22/03/2024 15:35

We always have

Teabags
Herbal tea
Coffee beans (neither of us drink instant coffee)
Milk
Squash
Diet coke
Sugar

I think that's fine in general as I can offer tea/coffee/herbal tea to adults and squash/water/milk to children or a fizzy drink if someone wants one.

We also normally have red wine and beer as that's what DH and I drink in terms of alcohol or a bottle of prosecco (just because you never know when you'll need it 😂)

I'll sometimes have instant coffee in if I need to make lots of coffees (as it takes ages with our coffee machine) or if we've had tradesmen in the house as I set them up a little tea/coffee station

Will also sometimes have hot chocolate

FlipFlops4Me · 22/03/2024 15:38

Tea (real and decaff), coffee (and decaff), squash, fruity water - non sugar. That's it. No alcohol, no fizzy drinks. Ooh - there's dark chocolate powder for dark hot chocolate (and it is truly gorgeous).

facepalmdaily · 22/03/2024 16:03

We have every possible tea under the sun, fruit, green, lavender, earl grey, Jaffa cake, biscuit, decaf, normal, you name it. Coffee, hot chocolate and squash. We rarely have pop in the house. We also have every type of booze you can think of but it's extremely rare for us to drink it. It tends to get bought at Christmas then sits there for eternity! Ironically we never have any mixers which is probably why we never drink the spirits ;-)

LawrieForShepherdsBoy · 22/03/2024 16:07

Ground coffee and tea. Dh usually has non-alcoholic beer and sparkling mineral water. I’ve just bought some caffeine-free tea so I can have a cup before bed. I’ve got various bags of other tea knocking about but only cause we’ve been given them, I wouldn’t replace them.

Dacadactyl · 22/03/2024 16:09

Milk, tea, coffee, green tea and tap water

We never buy fizzy drinks unless having a party.

We never buy juice unless one of the kids is having a friend round (and even then I often forget to buy it)

troppibambini6 · 22/03/2024 16:10

Tea and coffee we both drink loads of it. Soft drinks it's usually orange and blackcurrant squash, fresh apple and orange, I usually have some kombucha and some cans of fizzy pop.
