Why are ridiculously long jeans /trousers in fashion?

pinkgirls · 22/03/2024 07:11

All I'm seeing is people saying skinny /straight jeans are out of style
Big no no
Then wearing these, really long /covering feet jeans /trousers and calling it "fashion"
Is it just me who thinks they look ridiculous?

Because cropped ones used to be in fashion.

pestaloon · 22/03/2024 07:14

I am despairing over - been on a massive weight loss kick for the past six months and now I am looking at all the shops imagining looking good in skinnies and ankle boots again and I am finding is baggy jeans and cropped tops and jumpers 😩 - I should have waited until the fashion I love comes back. Need to buy pretty much all new clothes and can't find hardly anything I like

RampantIvy · 22/03/2024 07:15

As someone with long legs it is nice to find jeans that are long enough. Although they don't look like that on me as they are long enough, not too long.

Everything comes and goes. Baggy, Wide Leg, Flared, Skinny are in fashion at the minute.

DreadPirateRobots · 22/03/2024 07:17

The fashion isn't actually about having fabric pool around the ankles, that's just people wearing stuff that is too long for them, but yes, wide-legs are in and yes, they need to be full-length.

BroughttoyoubyBerocca · 22/03/2024 07:18

Whilst I love that longer length are coming in - I’m tall my thin legs are my only saving grace - I’m sticking to skinnies/jeggings.

BetteDavisChin · 22/03/2024 07:20

Wear what you like and what you think suits you. It's daft to despair that you can't wear your favourite look because fashion has changed. Fashion is transitory and an illusion. Enjoy your weight loss with the confidence that comes from feeling good about yourself, not what you're wearing.

pestaloon · 22/03/2024 07:26

I try to but I struggle to find lots of the styles I love in the shops I like now - still there but way less choice. I get excited about some knitwear hold it up and find out it stops at my belly button - don't think I will ever lose enough weight to wear crop tops again 😂

@RampantIvy oh well, nice to know someone is benefiting from it!!

im under 5ft, i need crops to come back, the usually fit full length without taking them up.

taking this style doesn't really work as the shape is dreadful.

pinkgirls · 22/03/2024 07:30

I only suit skinny /slim legs but feel pressured to try and look "in fashion "
I just look ridiculous in anything else
I have long legs and like how I look in slim jeans
Try mom jeans etc on and feel huge

I don't like it when trousers are so long you can't even see people's feet (mostly seen on the red carpet). It looks like they're growing out of the ground.

Arrestedmanevolence · 22/03/2024 07:37

I prefer this. I'm short so cropped trousers make me look even shorter. I also can't abide cold ankles.

UnravellingTheWorld · 22/03/2024 07:56

It's about time!!! I loathe skinny jeans with a passion - can't even try them on without immediately taking them straight off again. Maybe now shops will carry sensible jeans again. My poor husband hasn't been able to buy jeans for years because all the shops hold are skinny, and he refuses (rightly so) to wear them.

mydogisthebest · 22/03/2024 08:08

Too long trousers are not that practical as they drag on the floor and get dirty, wet etc but they look a hell of a lot better than trousers that flap around the ankle or even higher. I always think it looks as though the wearer could not get trousers long enough

RampantIvy · 22/03/2024 08:14

It's too wet and muddy to wear long wide leg jeans where I live. We are all still in skinnies or slim straight leg jeans.

woahboy · 22/03/2024 08:29

I'm assuming you are an adult OP. If so, have you honestly got to adulthood nit understanding how fashion works? The idiosyncrasies of fashion. Really? You've got to adulthood and these jeans are beyond your comprehension?

For what it's worthless, dire hard late adopters have been desperately clinging on to their skinnies for so long that they will be happy to hear they are coming back. Yes, that's how long they've been out of fashion. A complete cycle.

Only they won't be quite the same. Rise will get different or colours or length.

Beezknees · 22/03/2024 08:31

I love this style of jeans. Can't stand skinnies, feel like I can't breathe in them.

MorrisZapp · 22/03/2024 08:37

Mind that time Colleen Rooney wore foot covering trousers and it made her look like she had horses legs with no discernable feet?

Very odd.

RampantIvy · 22/03/2024 08:40

Yes, that's how long they've been out of fashion. A complete cycle.

The Mumsnet fashion police have been saying for ages that skinnies are out of fashion, but most people haven't stopped wearing them. There are a lot of deeply unfashionable people around.

I wear slim straight jeans as they suit me better.

Hark at Anna Wintour

slavetoloverhythm · 22/03/2024 08:49

It’s pure money saving. They make everything long so that it fits everyone, if too short then the taller people can’t buy them, if too long us shoe ties have the option of seeing / cutting.
i agree op. It’s laziness and unfair.
i often find petite versions of clothes aren’t that nice and not made by the most fashion forward retailers

MrsSkylerWhite · 22/03/2024 08:51

Are they? Good, I’ve long legs and am sick of dressing like Rishi Sunak.

That’s all well and good but when styles go out of fashion, shops no longer sell them.

YourFogLightsAreOnTheresNoFog · 22/03/2024 09:11

I still wear skinnies for dog walking and have been wearing them for work in the winter as we dress casual in the office but I don't see the public so not bothered about looking that good and just want to be warm.

I like wider legged jeans with trainers and I've just bought some black trouser flares. I also wear turned up straight jeans.

I don't like the jeans in the OP for me.

littlegrebe · 22/03/2024 09:13

My ankles were getting chilly in slim leg trousers that weren't quite long enough and somehow were never available in longer lengths. With looser trousers they can't get away with ignoring tall sizes as easily, because you look extra silly with all that fabric flapping about as you walk. I feel warm again now.
