Why are ridiculously long jeans /trousers in fashion?

All I'm seeing is people saying skinny /straight jeans are out of style
Big no no
Then wearing these, really long /covering feet jeans /trousers and calling it "fashion"
Is it just me who thinks they look ridiculous?

Hark at Anna Wintour

😂

That’s all well and good but when styles go out of fashion, shops no longer sell them

But mumsnet has been saying that skinnies are out yet the shops have never not had skinnies, so who is right?

DreadPirateRobots · 22/03/2024 14:17

Shops will sell anything they can make money by selling. Their only interest is profit, not making the public look cool. Skinnies are indeed out (sorry) but plenty of people are unfashionable and still buy clothes.

I love this style of jeans. Can't stand skinnies, feel like I can't breathe in them.

Same, so good to be able find jeans that don’t cling to my fat ass! 🤣

I’m convinced these super wide jeans don’t suit me but I do I care? Do I fuck! I like them so I wear them!

Yup, I have a muffin top the last thing I want is a clingy pair of jeans that show it off! Give me a high waist and wide fit 😂

You can buy skinnies at New Look, Replay and everywhere in between.

I am sticking to my cropped wide leg jeans! Don't care if they not in fashion - I love them !

Princessfluffy · 06/09/2024 07:44

Why is anything in fashion?
To make you buy more stuff.

It's too cold to wear cropped trousers in winter where I live.

GrandesRandonnees · 06/09/2024 08:18

If any of you have a sewing machine, you could try making your own jeans. Not nearly as hard as it sounds and lots of different patterns out there now.

MushMonster · 06/09/2024 08:21

Because someone hates me and wants me to deal with mountains of laundry each time my teen goes out?
It was raining yesterday and the water stains reached middle calf height. So impractical! It is like returning to the times women dresses had to sweep the floor.

DonkeyyDoo · 06/09/2024 08:24

I love skinny jeans/jeggins. Bludy hate the massively over sized baggy jeans look as they do nowt for my figure and TBH, nowt for most peoples figures, regardless of what size they are! They drown slim folk and make bigger folk look bigger and those that are average look shapeless…..

Beforetheend · 06/09/2024 08:28

I consult fashion trends to work out when I should stock up on the clothes I like, that will soon be unavailable. Then I dress for comfort and practicality.

xxwinterxx · 06/09/2024 08:32

I'm short so hate the long and baggy style, it just makes me look like I'm drowning in clothes.

Trousers styles / leg lengths really is about body shape and what you feel good in and influencers / fashion mags can talk about what's in and what's out, but it seems to make little difference to most and what they wear and that's how it should be. I think that leg lengths/ styles that are far too long is deliberate, to ensure the widest possible market for a trouser and this one size fits all approach, rather like stretch fabrics and elastic waists. How many know how to take up a trouser leg and I've helped friends with this, who've been wearing their trousers pulled up to their shoulders or puddling, just because they have no idea how to sew! Too long and they simply drag in the crap on the floor, wear away the hem and look like you are dressing up in your mum's clothes imo. Influencers show them too long as they leave the labels on and send the stuff back, so of course they push the puddle hem approach, as they are not buying the stuff they are flogging to others, just making money out of standing in front of mirrors.
