Just trying to redress the balance!
What are the things that everyone raves about that are actually amazing?
I need to unburden myself because on the thread I have referenced in the title, someone actually said David Bowie, Scotland and Tea…Three things I could not actually live without, that are actually superb and should have never been mentioned.
So tell me your wonderful things that are actually really wonderful and we can all feel better!

I love sports bras

MissBattleaxe · 23/03/2024 23:03

I enjoy instant coffee and prefer it to real coffee. I also enjoy watching dogs being silly on beaches. Extra points if their ears flap.

Yes! Daft dogs loving the beach as if it's the best day of their life!

TheSnakeCharmer · 23/03/2024 23:16

My life sized cardboard cut out of Daniel O'Donnell!

Avocados. Frequent rain, so that it comes in showers, rather than the weeks of drought and then a monsoon that we seem to be heading for. January, because the daylight gets a little longer every day, and it isn’t the same back to work stress you get in September. The London Underground -can’t believe I ever complained about it. NHS hospital treatment and care (but not the waiting times, discharge process or the disgusting food).

Big yes to Harry Styles.

Seems like a lovely young man, living a life most people only dream of - and clearly doesn't give a toss about what people think of him, or how he dresses.

Bialetti Moka pot. My little ritual every morning. It makes THE best coffee, which I drink while watching the birds in our Cumbrian garden, which is just bursting into spring.

Love Cumbria. Love coffee. Love Spring. Have just discovered frog spawn in our pond.

Lovely thread!

Yes to spring and daffodils, glorious. And blossom on the trees.

Guinea pigs. I love them. Wheek!

All pets are things of joy although I love my dog the most. But no judgement of cats here. So.long as people stick to domesticated animals not monkeys and pigs and things.
M&S clothes and the fact they deliver everything to my local food store. I never shop anywhere else
Disney+
I obviously need an air fryer but still love my slow cooker - gammon in cider in there today whilst I do nothing
Teenagers - massively underrated parenting stage, cheaper than uni (FML), more independent than little ones, understand sarcasm
All cocktails
And experimental pizza toppings generally. Local poncey sourdough pizza place does watermelon and feta which is lovely.

There seem to be an unusually large number of blackbirds around this year.

I'm lying in bed with the window open, listening to a bunch of them singing their heads off in our chilly Cumbrian garden, sipping fresh coffee brewed in a stove top moka. I can see the Lake District fells.

It's very heaven, and more or less free.

LBOCS2 · 29/04/2024 09:31

I have thought of one more thing:

Sunshine! When it has been grey and dreary for ages and then you wake up and it's BRIGHT and the sun is shining and it fills your bones with warmth.

Arraminta · 29/04/2024 09:50

Range Rovers, but by that I mean the proper ones, not the toy, wannabe Evoques. They get so much shittiness on here for being gas guzzling Chelsea tractors, but you know what, I don't give a fuck. I absolutely love mine and it feels like you're driving around in your own mini 5 * hotel.

Needhelp101 · 29/04/2024 10:56

Might be a bit controversial but, Uber. Quick, cheap, safe.

And to the poster who informed me that you can actually get a Network Rail card to get 30% off train travel after 10am - I had no idea!

Needhelp101 · 29/04/2024 10:58

And packets of seeds! 29p at Lidl. Bit of compost, pot, chuck in seeds, get lovely flowers and vegetables (eventually, when it's not too fecking cold to germinate).

Coffee, sunshine and Banff, Alberta

One of my favourite photos is me and DH sitting having coffee outside the Wildflower cafe in the sun.

Tea.
Art galleries and museums.
Growing roses.

100 %. Love Range Rovers. Especially that olive-green colour.

Dubai! I don’t want to hear about how people just no way would go there because of their horrible laws - has anyone seen the way the UK treats people? Virtue signalling and then jetting off to other places with less well publicised shit laws. Anti-gay laws are a disgrace, but guess what, in the UK rape is practically legalised, the government and the police are corrupt and and and and…. I’ve travelled to some fascinating places in my life, but a few days in Dubai was amazing and relaxing. Nothing to do. Good. Talk to me about nestle or Coca Cola, Grenfell, or the billions in arms sold by the UK - our government is shit, too!

Another one for salted caramel. On the ‘best taste’ thread, almost everything is a salt/sweet combo. Salted caramel is so tasty, people are just desperate to be contrary. Salted caramel is wonderful!

Whoever slagged off Scotland clearly hasn’t spent much time there. It’s gorgeous.

desperatedaysareover · 29/04/2024 11:44

Second vote for teenagers. They’re on a renewed voyage of discovery, in fact for that alone they’re endlessly entertaining, but this time they sleep at night, are continent, can fix computers, make your Spotify cool, veto your online basket when you’re about to buy terrible trainers, empty bins and reach high shelves, and you can leave them alone for a few hours. As long as you don’t mind going back to the shops to replenish the kitchen after you discover ‘snack’ means something quite different in their Brave New World.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 29/04/2024 12:28

Ninja air fryers/multi-cookers/wood smoke grills. All the Ninjas.

Sweet and Salty popcorn.

Oodies and other garments based on the Oodie. I have a dupe one from John Lewis. It's changed my life. I'm thinking of asking to be buried in it.

Dyson cordless vacuums.

Really good butter with salt crystals in. (not the Aldi or Lidl ones though, they are horribly salty.)

Electric blankets.

Glorious English gardens, especially in May and June.

Crosswords. Big ones. Quite hard, but definitely non-cryptic. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Taking an hour for yourself to sit alone in a café with coffee/tea, a nice cake and a newspaper.

Bullards Coastal Gin. It's absolutely gorgeous.

Daft dogs.

Watching babies eat.
