An antidote to The ‘Things that everyone raves about that are actually shite’ thread!

Just trying to redress the balance!
What are the things that everyone raves about that are actually amazing?
I need to unburden myself because on the thread I have referenced in the title, someone actually said David Bowie, Scotland and Tea…Three things I could not actually live without, that are actually superb and should have never been mentioned.
So tell me your wonderful things that are actually really wonderful and we can all feel better!

YES daffodils. They make me so happy.

Also:
London
Coriander
Harry Potter studios (it's brilliant, and worth every penny if you like HP)
Christmas (but not before 1st Dec)
Caramel eggs
Pineapple on pizza
New books in a series I've loved
Marlborough buns
Disneyland Paris (we also had an excellent time)
Cats
Really really oily and salty focaccia
Snow, and the sound of the atmosphere when it's been snowing

I think I'm quite easily pleased and that's fine. I have a nice life full of little joys.

NotNowNorman · 21/03/2024 20:35

And yes, the Beatles were all that. To go from Love Me Do in mono to Sgt Pepper in the space of just five years is amazing. And they weren't even thirty when they split up!

IMustDoMoreExercise · 21/03/2024 20:35

Electric blankets couldn't live without one now.

What actual savage doesnt think bowie and tea are the best things ever?

DopeyS · 21/03/2024 20:40

Scotland is absolutely amazing. I'm going up again in May. Went to lossiemouth last year and the beach looked tropical, except the water was freezing, but it was stunning.

As I've got older I feel the internet has become more negative and I think it's nice to focus on the smaller pleasures.

The chill in the morning on a day that will end up warm.
Sun heating your skin through a window.
The sunlight in the golden hour.
Birds singing.
My pets cuddling up to me

I think there's a new hashtag trend on Instagram called #glimmer the opposite of a trigger that can be a small thing that brings you joy.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 21/03/2024 20:50

I like loads of stuff that was mentioned on that thread!
I'm a big fan of Cruise holidays, Disneyland Paris and Disney Florida - I think I need to hand in my MN membership card now 😁

HRTQueen · 21/03/2024 20:59

I love my air fryer
and Netflix
And the knitted hats for post boxes always make me smile

watermelonsugar56 · 21/03/2024 21:05

I live in Scotland and am Scottish. Thanks for the love 😍

Chocolate, joggers, comfy socks, cats, dogs, tea 🤌🏻

I know. Crazy. Imagine listening to this song, it’s way ahead of its time, a completely different sound to anything that came before it. A dance track before it was ever invented…

I really loved the ABBA Voyage show that the OP in that thread slagged off so much. Grin

Me too and all of my friends that have seen it!

SomethingFun · 21/03/2024 21:14

Cats are awesome. I love watching animal clips and I give not two shits how basic I am for doing so. Also love Disneyland Paris, leggings with pockets, real tea, decaf tea and fruit tea and reading books aimed at older children - Harry Potter, Percy Jackson etc. Basically everything I loved/ would have loved when I was 11/12 and now I’m an adult so I can have it all😁

Meaco dehumidifier

Absolute game changer

What do you use it for? (please don't say dehumidifying.)

GellerYeller · 21/03/2024 21:30

Air fryer convert
Loved ABBA Voyage
Pineapple on pizza is perfection
Butter. Salted.
Streisand. LOVE her.
Stevie Nicks. Ditto.
Dave Grohl. Doesn’t take himself seriously but seems to be very seriously regarded by his peers. And by Paul McCartney.
Another Scotland fan here.
Unfashionable cakes and biscuits. Keep your salted caramel , Blondies and Bakewell muffins. I need lemon curd tarts, crap cheap shortbread, Rich Tea fingers and a Black Forest gateau thanks.

abracadabra1980 · 21/03/2024 21:44

All dogs
All cats
All animals
My electric Alaskan fox heated throw - I should start worshipping it it's saved me so much in heating
My slate flooring in bathroom
Yorkshire tea
Air fryer - especially when chucking a dumpling mix in until its crispy 😁

ladygoingGaga · 21/03/2024 22:20

The first time you hear the mowers and smell cut grass in spring, makes my soul sing with hope.

A cat curled up on your lap purring, it’s a constant reminder that they feel safe and happy with you.

Freshly laundered bedding, a joy!

FKAT · 21/03/2024 22:34

I love all the following:

Love Island
Beyonce
Taylor Swift
Salted Caramel
Nando's
Beach holidays
AI Beach Holidays
Benidorm (the TV series and the destination)
Centre Parks
Tattoos
The Beckhams
Premier league football and its easily justified salaries
Rap
Camping
Tea
Spas including hot tubs
Drinking - especially gin and prosecco.

I get all Burchill-esque about performative misery and austerity. Hating on mass market fun and popular things doesn't make one interesting or high brow.

UtterlyButterly2048 · 21/03/2024 22:49

Dogs, obviously. Best things EVER
Wine.
Quooker Tap
Jammie Dodgers
Whatever that feeling is, when you get home from a long day at work, take of your uncomfy work clothes, wash off your make up and put your comfies on. Bliss.

You sound like a lovely person. I am going to channel ‘small joys’ today ❤️

AffIt · 22/03/2024 11:20

Cats, coriander, rice cookers, trains, gel pedicures, instant mashed potato (especially the Idaho brand with cheese - UPF of the gods), K-drama, unscheduled early nights and salted caramel which is bloody fantastic.

EasternStandard · 22/03/2024 11:26

Loads makes me happy

Blossom on the trees right now
My spring garden
London
Seeing family soon
Music, including musical performances by my
dc and other
Decent book
Birdsong
Love snow but occasionally

Sure I’ve forgotten stuff

weywardwoman · 22/03/2024 11:31

I love my kindle. I love getting books instantly. I love the big font. I love how easy it is to hold. I love the backlight.

I adore my kindle. I feel guilty about the bookstores, but when I buy paper books I find them uncomfortable 🥴

weywardwoman · 22/03/2024 11:33

I love my soda stream. And my Dyson air wrap.

I love HRT. And well fitting bras. And cake. So much love for cake.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/03/2024 12:21

I love my air fryer!

Toddlerteaplease · 22/03/2024 12:21

And definitely cats.

longtompot · 22/03/2024 13:31

Luckydog7 · 21/03/2024 17:39

Agree with cats, any and all.

Caramel filled chocolate eggs (controversial I know)

My lovely new sofa from DFS. It's teal blue and big enough for all four of us to snuggle together.

Eastshade. A new game I'm playing where you are a wondering painter. It's just nice, no fighting, no real conflict just discovering beautiful scenery, making canvases, finding views to paint, crafting twine, helping the locals.

Just told my dd about the game. She's recovering from an operation and I think she might like this, so thank you for sharing 😊
