We don't like you much really (Russia)

Did anyone see this woman on the news being interviewed by the BBC at the Kremlin. Scarey stuff. She is a newspaper editor. Seems to think their way of not allowing any opposition is the right way and we're the ones who have got it wrong. She actually said we don't like you much really.

I did find that comment quite astonishing.

Rollonsummer1 · 20/03/2024 22:42

Well if I was in Russia I'd say I'd lick putins balls if if kept me alive.

TokyoSushi · 20/03/2024 22:42

Well I think the feeling is entirely mutual, I'm not sure they're ever going to say 'we really love the UK.'

Steve Rosenberg (BBC) does a fantastic job there on the face of adversity.

RemarkablyBrightCreature · 20/03/2024 22:43

Yep. Crazy. But I guess they’re taught this from day one? 🤷‍♀️😬

WinterMorn · 20/03/2024 22:45

Where have you been for the last few years 😂😂

BadLad · 20/03/2024 23:05

There were posters on the Conscription thread a few months ago who argued that the UK was just as bad and no more undemocratic than Russia. Maybe it was satire that went over my head but they seemed sincere.

Februaryfeels · 20/03/2024 23:59

What was astonishing? I thought it was common knowledge

Februaryfeels · 21/03/2024 00:13

Just seen that it was Simonyan. Boss of putins mouthpiece RT

She is a vile, disgusting Putin cheerleader and frankly no one should want her to like them

WinterMorn · 21/03/2024 00:22

l’m not surprised it was her. She is a disgraceful human being.

Useruser1 · 21/03/2024 00:32

Did you hear, the BBC is banned in Russia! They're such a terrible country, stopping their citizens seeing other news!

Happyinarcon · 21/03/2024 05:32

The UK doesn’t have a functioning opposition. Both parties are useless. People think the UK is a democracy while at the same time sensing that they are powerless and the government will do whatever ridiculous crap it always did. At least the Russian situation is honest

What's honest about the Russian election ?Hmm

Northernsouloldies · 21/03/2024 05:55

When an election is won by 88% that's the mark of a nutter in charge.

Yeah, and all Russian media operates freely in the UK.

Who are the propagandists again?

Ggttl · 21/03/2024 07:56

How could you not know this already? Why on earth would they like us?!

What astonishes me is that Steve Rosenberg is still there and allowed to broadcast as freely as he does, given Putin's megalomania.
He's an excellent journalist with a lot of insight and his reports are always engaging. Great pianist too!

Oh please….

herecomesthesun24 · 21/03/2024 08:42

Saw it and thought it was an honest opinion.

She’s hardly going to be in the inner circle at Putin’s re-election, talking to a journalist who is critical of the regime and who represents a country that is supplying arms to a country Russia are at war with and say ‘oh we really admire the UK and value your opinion on our societal set-up.’

Of course some Russians ‘support’ Putin through fear but there will be many who truly support him through patriotism.

herecomesthesun24 · 21/03/2024 08:45

I do want to read more about the breakdown in relationships between the G8 countries as it wasn’t long ago Putin was sitting at a table with Western global leaders. If anyone can recommend any good reads on it?

MorrisZapp · 21/03/2024 08:46

Absolutely terrifying stuff. 'what do we need credible opponents for?'

The 'film director' before her said the election was the fairest and most open in the bloody world 🤣🤣

Utterly unhinged.

bombastix · 21/03/2024 08:47

Who would want to be Russian and live there? It looks and sounds like hell to me unless you are in with Putin.

I feel sorry for the ordinary Russian. How much choice do they have? None

To be fair the rhetoric in the West has almost always been anti Russia. Russians are seen as one horrible lot that need to be fixed (I.e. westernised). Putin and his cronies take advantage of this. So yes Russians are taught to dislike Brits (the West in general) just as the West is taught to dislike and be suspicious of Russians. No winning strategy on either side. The ones that pay the price are everyday people with little political power

The Government and Opposition may be ineffectual, but we still have a legitimate version of democracy.

At least the Russian situation is honest.

In what way? They haven't announced that they rigged the vote, or that the Police beat and arrested people, after looking over their shoulders to see them not voting for Putin.
