What something you didn't know that you just found out? (Lighthearted)

What's one thing you didn't know that you just found or found out very late in life?

I just found out Americans call a burger with no minced patty, a sandwich. So essentially, a chicken burger is a chicken sandwich, and a filet o fish burger is a filet o fish sandwich

I know! Apparently they're like a different type of horse? And all baby horses are foals??

Apparently also a miniature horse is also different to a pony.

My facts

We have never actually drilled through the earths crust. Everything we think exists under the crust is just guesses. The closest anyone has got is the Kola borehole in Russia. They tried for 20 years or something to drill through the earths crust and gave up.

another one is that we live closer in time to cleopatra than cleopatra did to when the pyramids were build. In her time there were already ancient Egyptian Archaeologists studying the time of the pyramids.

also, the reason all the stuff in Rome is in ruins is because after the fall of Rome the Christian’s destroyed everything. Only stuff that survived was things that got turned into a church. The area where the Roman forum was, was buried as it was literally a garbage dump for 1000 years. Found that one out recently when I visited Rome. Prob everyone knows rhis but it never occurred to me that is was all ruined on purpose. I thought it was just aged.

there is only 80 generations of humans since when Jesus lives. Homo sapiens have existed for about 12000 generations.

What so there’s like a big eel orgy every year at a certain time and they all know when it is and just head on over? 🤯

Certainly it explains all the disappearances in the Bermuda triangle- I reckon someone shouts 'wow look, an eel orgy!' Everyone rushes to look and then the boat capsizes? 😆

I found today that James Martin dated Barbara Broccoli for 4 years and she bought him 3 Picasso paintings. I read on the DM they were devoted to each other, they sounded like they were really meant to be.

Same , I was amazed for some reason.

Golf - they move where the holes are on the greens.
Apparently the green keepers or whoever do it overnight so they're in different positions for the next day of a tournament.
The sneaky sods.
I'm still not convinced this is true and am fully prepared to be told it's a wind up.

Certainly is true.

Sometimes it's because a hole is found to be too easy/difficult they will move the position to change that.

Different pin positions mean the players play the holes differently.

Also, sometimes on local greens the flags will be different colours so the players can tell whether the pin is front/centre/rear of the green as well.

Found out yesterday that it's possible to have a wee without taking your whole swimming costume off. You can just pull it to one side. Game changer!

If that were true my poor dachshund would never see much. He's quite capable of sitting right in front of me and looking up at me.

Dogs can't look up is a quote from the film Shaun of the Dead 😆

That members of the public could rock to up a court and watch the cases there.

Did it for the first time this week, and it was very interesting. Met a guy there who was just passing the time whist his car was being MOTd.

I went through a phase of watching murder cases at the Old Bailey and took my teenagers on a couple of occasions. Anyone can watch (I think you have to be over 14 and take ID).

That all eels, american and European- go to breed in the Bermuda Triangle. I read it on sm and figured it most be made up - but found pages agreeing!

Well - they go to the Sargasso Sea to breed, some of which overlaps the area of the Atlantic we call the Bermuda Triangle.

ABBA is made up of the groups initials. Heard it on radio 2 last week.

Agnatha, Bjorn, Benny, Anna

pretty sure I have the order wrong though…

What? I thought a pony grew up to be a horse. Damn it!

I thought a pony was a smaller version of a horse?
Did horses have to be a certain height ?

What?! 😯

I didn't know this until a group of women from work planned to have their 'girls day out' watching a really grisly case 😬

The lesser used name Fanny is short for Stephanie!

That's a new one for me, it always used to be short for Frances / Francis. My dad used to have a friend called Fanny - a man!

It's common in Greece, short for Fanasis.

I found out that the song The Man who Sold the World was originally performed by David Bowie not Nirvana!

mindblown! 🤯

I remember Lulu did a cover single in the late 70's(?) And Bowie sang backing vocals.

That a "shed load" of something doesn't mean a garden shed full to the rafters like I'd always imagined, I had a light bulb moment listening to a radio traffic report about a lorry and its "shed load" blocking a motorway.

What?! That makes so much more sense. Excellent!

I think this song is used on a Heinz soup advert: ("Don't leave me this way")
The leader singer of The Communards is Jimmy Somerville and not as I thought, a woman.

Some of these things are making me feel so old. I was alive for the original releases of the Bowie and Communards tracks mentioned. Can't imagine not knowing those.

I never knew until eight years ago that the curled up tail of dogs such as Pugs uncurl and straighten out when they are tired or sleeping.

My daughter has one and the first time I saw his tail all straight I thought it was was broken!

All my dogs have different tails to this that are straight or curved.

Noooooo! Is this true? Mind! Blown!

I found out about 30 minutes ago that Elton John's song "Daniel" is about the Vietnam War.
I had no idea 😢

I know it seems ridiculous but that nugget of info just passed me by!

I'm generally fairly knowledgeable and read these type of threads feeling smug so serves me right really.😝

Dh was haunted after he stopped in one day- a 18 yo was jailed for drunk and disorderly. He said both the guy and his dad were bawling crying and the dad was saying’please don’t take him away’ or something to that effect.
