What's one thing you didn't know that you just found or found out very late in life?

I just found out Americans call a burger with no minced patty, a sandwich. So essentially, a chicken burger is a chicken sandwich, and a filet o fish burger is a filet o fish sandwich

I knew someone who didn’t know until adulthood that Prince Philip was Charles’s dad.

That members of the public could rock to up a court and watch the cases there.

Did it for the first time this week, and it was very interesting. Met a guy there who was just passing the time whist his car was being MOTd.

It was a few years after I moved to Sydney before I realised that the flight to Perth didn’t take “a couple of hours”, it’s 5!

‘Bi-weekly’ which makes me think twice a week, surely?

Bi-weekly can mean twice a week OR every two weeks. We do not use a sensible language

That all eels, american and European- go to breed in the Bermuda Triangle. I read it on sm and figured it most be made up - but found pages agreeing!

It's actually the Sargasso Sea, which does encompass Bermuda, so not striclty 100% true.

The Sargasso, bounded by currents instead of land, is an egg-shaped expanse that takes up about two-thirds of the North Atlantic, looping around Bermuda and stretching east more than 1,000 kilometers.

A European eel swims in the Baltic Sea.

The Utterly Engrossing Search for the Origin of Eels

To save the endangered animals, researchers have been working for decades to figure out where they reproduce

That's a new one for me, it always used to be short for Frances / Francis. My dad used to have a friend called Fanny - a man!

Dogs can't look up

My dog regularly sits in the garden looking up at the birds on the roof.

I think it's pigs that can't look up?

I learned that the Troubles, despite being described usually as a Protestant and Catholic conflict, weren't (aren't) actually to do with religion. I was watching The Fall and was inspired to learn more about it.

TammytheFaceGhost · 21/03/2024 07:26

Oh and literally just now I decided to look up the term "going postal" as someone said it on another thread, someone else commented it had been a while since they'd heard the expressionism used. I googled it and apparently it "derives from a series of incidents involving US postal workers, who shot and killed fellow workers and members of the public in 1986" 😮

Dogs can't look up

If that were true my poor dachshund would never see much. He's quite capable of sitting right in front of me and looking up at me.

nbee84 · 21/03/2024 07:38

With the 'dogs can't look up' - I think it means they can't just move their eyes to look up, they need to move their whole head.

Dogs can't look up

Yeah, dogs look up at their owners or anyone holding a biscuit or stick, like all the time. It’s one of the things that endears them to us.

I found out about formal and informal ways of addressing others in Korea, because I have been watching a Korean zombie horror series.

What so there’s like a big eel orgy every year at a certain time and they all know when it is and just head on over? 🤯

Have you never been to McDonalds??
I'm pretty sure the McChicken sandwich is still a thing....

I think this song is used on a Heinz soup advert: ("Don't leave me this way")
The leader singer of The Communards is Jimmy Somerville and not as I thought, a woman.
