Got two speeding tickets in a week

Nc for this

I know, I am an idiot. It was totally accidental in both cases though (distraction got me to 38 in two different 30 zones).

I am normally very careful and hate the speeding idiots, sigh! Last time it happened to me was in 2015 and had a speed awareness course.

What am I looking at now? 1 course + fine and 3 points, or 6 points, or...?

Don't tell me I'm an idiot, I know already and fully committed to never make it happen again!

Biscuit (biscuit for myself)

Can you do a speed awareness course again for one?
Three points for the other?

Nc12345678aa · 20/03/2024 18:15

That's what I hope...just asking for any experience if this is indeed possible

Anyone? My anxiety is spiralling out of control.

I'm seriously considering starting to only drive for the school run, possibly walk to work and ditch everything else (DH can't drive for medical reasons)

I am an anxious mess as GP has reduced my antidepressants dose, I agreed to try but it's not working out, so sorry if IABU

You can do a second course if there is more than 5 years since your last one. I did that.

Not sure if 2 tickets on the same day affects that though.

Nc12345678aa · 20/03/2024 18:49

They are not on the same day luckily, same week - one on a Sunday and one the next Saturday...

Do you have a speed limiter on your car? I use mine obsessively. Stops those distracted moments. But yes, course plus 3 points I would think.

RoyKentwhistle · 20/03/2024 18:59

I had 2 in a short time a couple of years ago
I did a speed awareness course for one and took the points for the other.
I've not done it since and there were no repercussions.

amylou8 · 20/03/2024 19:01

That's bad luck, we all do it, so be kind to yourself. Course for one, points for the other.

No, I don't... can they be fitted on any car?

I didn't think you were offered a course if you were that far over the speed limit? I thought it was around 35/36 in a 30 as max go get on the course?

Nc12345678aa · 20/03/2024 19:11

Does anyone know - after the police send back the offer for the course to sign up to or the fine to pay, how many days you have to do that?

I'm postponing sending my details (still within the 28 days for that) as I'm away for Easter holidays from the 29th to the 8th and I don't want for their second letter to arrive and me having no time to reply on my return...

I think a speed limiter has to be fitted at production. I have it and it is an absolute must for me. I don't drive without it on.

Partner got two speeding tickets within hours of eachother .On the same road ,once going and once coming back .20mph zone ,not much over .
He did one course and I think points for the other .

Shiningout · 20/03/2024 19:18

Yeah you'll be able to do the course for one and points for the other. Most of us have driven somewhere over the speed limit op. Don't beat yourself up too much although I know it's hard.

That is good to know, my worry is that the short space of time affects the police's willingness to offer the course for the first one, so thanks!

Isn't it 35 to 42?

I think (but not sure) that it can vary by force. Personally I think 42 in a 30 zone should result in points or prosecution but obviously opinions vary. (seeing my child hit and thrown in the air by a car travelling too fast has undoubtedly affected my view which I put my hands up to.)

I think it is worth doing that, I'm pretty sure forces vary so it would be easy to find something (good or bad) that won't apply.

Firstly, attracting speeding fines is much easier nowadays. There are speed cameras plus police surveillance with speed guns etc, so it doesn't make you evil, you just need to start paying attention to your speedo and watching the road signs. It isn't that difficult to get 2 fines in a week, especially if you drive a similar route to work or school runs, where there are cameras, because in a week you won't have changed your habits and behaviour.

a speed awareness course will help to reset your attitude to speeding because they talk about how lowering your speed actually has the potential to save a child's life, in the event of a collision and that's statistically proven.

About a year ago, I was caught doing 36 mph in a 30 at 6am. It was an 3 mile stretch of road with some pointless changes of speed

40mph
30mph (for 200 metres)
roundabout
40mph
30mph (for 200 metres)
roundabout
40mph
30mph (for 200 metres)
roundabout
40mph
30mph (for 200 metres)
roundabout

I got caught on the middle roundabout where it was 30mph for 200metres. I leave for work very early to avoid all the traffic, and just lost concentration. There's a lot to concentrate on, with all those changes of speed (it's a new piece of road).

I get that 36mph put me in the wrong, but it was really annoying!

I took the option of a SA course so didn't get any points, and got to do it via MS Teams so didn't have to travel anywhere. Since then I've been very careful and keep myself 1-2 mph lower to make sure I don't get done again.

the other ridiculous one is a 1 mile stretch of road at 20mph as I have to temporarily drive into Wales, and it's going uphill which is really daft. Everyone is itching to go past me but I refuse to speed because I'm not getting another ticket!

Nc12345678aa · 20/03/2024 19:26

@Iwasafool yes it's up to 42 over here, but still worried about the short time between the two as it's at police discretion
