Got two speeding tickets in a week

Nc for this

I know, I am an idiot. It was totally accidental in both cases though (distraction got me to 38 in two different 30 zones).

I am normally very careful and hate the speeding idiots, sigh! Last time it happened to me was in 2015 and had a speed awareness course.

What am I looking at now? 1 course + fine and 3 points, or 6 points, or...?

Don't tell me I'm an idiot, I know already and fully committed to never make it happen again!

Biscuit (biscuit for myself)

That's what I hope...just asking for any experience if this is indeed possible

I had this, the road to work goes 40, 30, 60, 30. In a mile. I got clocked going into the 60 at around 40 (twice) I did one fine and one speed awareness course.

Nc12345678aa · 20/03/2024 19:29

@daisychain01 yes I also have a lot of repeated routes. Also, there are a fucking lot of tailgaters around here and sometimes the nerves make me go faster even if it's totally wrong 😑

That is good to know, my worry is that the short space of time affects the police's willingness to offer the course for the first one, so thanks!

My understanding is that they take each offence as completely independent of each other. If not, sometimes if you write a conciliatory letter asking to do a speed awareness course, they are often willing to concede unless you were doing 50 in a 30 then they probably won't!

Nc12345678aa · 20/03/2024 19:34

@daisychain01 they are independent indeed, different days, different towns. I just can't believe how it's never happened to me in the last 9 years and then 2 in a week!

This seems to be the general consensus though so that's reassuring.

I don't know if you have a manual or an automatic?
I have a manual and keep in third gear in 30 limits as I can hear when I'm going too fast, not ideal for the engine but most of my journeys are on faster roads

Nc12345678aa · 20/03/2024 19:37

@TheThreeHeadedBeast manual. Good idea indeed. This is something I'll keep in mind, thank you.

Back in my youth I got two speeding tickets four hours apart and I suspect if they had calculated how long it took me to get between the two I would have got a third. I just paid both fines and took the 6 points. And have been a lot more careful since.

xraydelta · 20/03/2024 19:41

Don't beat yourself up. The same happened to me three years ago. Two speeding tickets, roughly a week apart. I was utterly convinced that I was in a 40 zone, saw the speed van both times, and actually congratulated myself internally for doing well below what I thought was the speed limit. I was going 36 🙈

I did one speed awareness course and took three points for the other. It was annoying and frustrating, but three years later and it's not been a consistent speeding problem 😁 That same road still bugs me now. It is a wide two lanes each side road with a pavement barrier in the middle and no 30 signs visible due to overhanging tree branches. But; there we go.

Chalk it up and let it go x

Nc12345678aa · 20/03/2024 19:44

@helpfulperson @xraydelta I'm not in my youth anymore so I really hope this will help me to get wiser and it's good to know that other people manage to keep their good intentions for long.

My mum got two on consecutive days at the same time at the same speed camera. She was very cross.

Nc12345678aa · 20/03/2024 19:47

@jaydess I can imagine! What was the outcome for her?

Are you sure you've actually been caught? I was 'caught' (police van) and was a bag of nerves and nothing ever came of it. In those cases a 50mph dual carriage way, everyone driving over 50 with the flow (not that, that makes it right).

Iwasafool · 20/03/2024 21:06

Nc12345678aa · 20/03/2024 19:26

@Iwasafool yes it's up to 42 over here, but still worried about the short time between the two as it's at police discretion

Yes they do have discretion, you might just have an anxious wait for a few days. Hopefully they will let you know soon.

terriblyangryattimes · 20/03/2024 21:16

Generally as long as your speeds weren't very far over the limit (many forces it's 10%plus 2 miles but obviously this isn't a blanket UK threshold) and if your last course was 2015 you should be able to accept a course offer for the first and pay the fine/points for the second. You can do a course every 3 years (dated from the offence date I believe rather than the course)

Nc12345678aa · 20/03/2024 22:00

@terriblyangryattimes @yeahwell I have the two letters and it's 38 for both 😓

Ah shame. I think you'll be offered a course for the first one and points/fine for the second. Try not to let it eat you up. Enjoy your Easter break :)

Somepeoplearesnippy · 20/03/2024 23:18

You say you are careful but three detected speeding offences seems very careless to me. Obviously we al misjudge things occasionally but to be clocked and caught that often probably means you've escaped detection many more times. I've been driving over 30 years and have yet to pick up a speeding ticket because more often than not I stick to the limits. You haven't been and you have to suck up the consequences.

As the late, great Norman Stanley Fletcher used to say - if you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

Nc12345678aa · 20/03/2024 23:33

Where is the third? It was 9 years ago.

Time for a new car indeed!

You might have it labelled as cruise control? It’s in many cars now. Doesn’t exactly inhibit your speed as it is possible to accelerate over it but you feel resistance and it beeps at you when you do accidentally creep up.

Sunnysideup5 · 20/03/2024 23:49

Hi OP

The same thing happened to me back in 2021. I was caught twice in the same place a week apart and the letters arrived at the same time.

I took the speed awareness course for the first 3 points and then had to take the other 3. We all make mistakes, try not to beat yourself up.

OP posts:
Evani · 20/05/2024 00:10

my speed in second time was 60mph in 40mph speed limit and in first it was 86mph in 70mph which I fit in category of course but for the second one I don’t know and it happened in a week.
