Anyone remember this, from late 70s/early 80s?

It's become almost an obsession for me, trying to find a story from a comic, from mid/late 70s or early 80s.
I remember in a young kids' comic or annual, there was a (possibly one-off) story called Ready, Teddy, Go!

I remember it being very very cute, and had 3 little bears running a race (possibly on a running track).

It was very short, ie maybe took up only half a page of the comic.
Anyone remember this??

Comics I remember getting were Twinkle, Rupert, Playhour, those kind of things, then Beezer, Judy etc.

My family now think I've invented or dreamt the whole thing 😆

Can anyone help? 😖

(Note, It's *not the Ready Teddy Go article in the Bunty annual 1982 🫣)

I used to get Buttons conic at that time, could it have been in there?

ReadyTeddy1000 · 19/03/2024 23:27

I don't think so, I don't remember that comic

I used to get Twinkle and it definitely rings a bell.

Those comics had tons of stories in and if it wasn't a regular strip, just a one-off half page, it'd be pretty wild for someone else to remember. But that doesn't mean you've made it up, just that it's stayed with you for some reason.

I've got a similar fixation on a comic strip in a girls' annual (like Mandy or Bunty) about a cursed ruby necklace handed down through the centuries, always with the same black-haired girl, possibly reincarnated, and unable to break the curse. It was more substantial that the Teddies, but still lost in the mists of time
I fear.

Your one sounds like the Valda stories from Mandy.

Rings a bell and I also read Twinkle

EBearhug · 20/03/2024 01:02

I thought Twinkle, too.

donteatthedaisies0 · 20/03/2024 01:53

No idea what you're on about but could it possibly the Bimbo annual . I had that a coupe of times when I was a kid . Y'know Bimbo the penguin ?
There was so many comics of good quality at the time and I do remember so much reading Twinkle , especially the one where Twinkle ran a doll hospital .
My favourite was the back page with the cut out doll and paper clothes that you cut out and fold over the tabs .Ahh good times 😁.

I don't know about the OPs question but this website is amazing thank you. I have been searching in it for things I vaguely remember and just found the Slave Girls in Mandy who I used to love!

SevenSeasOfRhye · 20/03/2024 07:28

We took a small children's comic called 'Pippin in Playland' in that era - I can't remember that character but might be worth a look.

pinkdelight · 20/03/2024 07:41

That website is incredible!!! I got so excited when I searched it and found there was a story called The Enchanted Necklace in Mandy 1984... but it's not the story I remember, no ring. The site is still amazing though and I'm going to spend hours poring over it, thank you!!

Munchyseeds2 · 20/03/2024 07:42

Twinkle
My nan used to buy that for me every week
Lovely memories!

Bbq1 · 20/03/2024 07:47

Twinkle was great especially the Christmas album

DrJoanAllenby · 20/03/2024 08:19

I'm looking for a character called Millicent Mold. It may have been written as a poem or a very short story of less than half a page and was at the bottom of a page.

She looked a bit like Olive Oyl.

LoreleiG · 20/03/2024 08:22

I vaguely remember this. I can’t remember where from though sorry.

BaronessBomburst · 20/03/2024 08:25

I used to read Twinkle. I went to collect it one week from the corner shop, pocket money clutched in hand, only to discover that my mother had cancelled it, and "forgotten to tell me". She'd decided that I was too old and shouldn't be reading it any more.
I've not forgotten; I was so upset and embarrassed.
And I'll never find out what happened to the kittens........

hagchic · 20/03/2024 09:03

I just spent time looking at that site and reminiscing.

I remember it being so exciting to get the comic and read through it, over and over again.

It certainly contributed to my love of reading - it created such a positive view of reading rather than it being something I had to do.

I just typed up a post about some of her other stunts, then decided not to put a downer on such a nice thread. 😁
I used to read Mandy and Bunty too.
And the Beano, Dandy, and later 2000AD.
Going to the dentist was great as they always had a selection in the waiting room.

UneTasse · 20/03/2024 09:56

I was so sad to discover that there is nothing like that any more. I loved Twinkle dearly, and then Mandy, Bunty and Judy. They were all so wholesome and deeply absorbing.

Back when there were boy comics and girl comics and life was simpler? Before social media came along.
I used to enjoy the Beano, and had Twinkle and Bunty annuals.

UneTasse · 20/03/2024 10:31

I loved second hand sales for all the annuals you could get - I had a brilliant one called Misty, which definitely wasn't still a comic in shops at that point (early 80's). Also Beano and Dandy (I think I preferred Dandy?).

VenusClapTrap · 20/03/2024 11:05

I had a brilliant one called Misty

Years ago I had a boyfriend who had a massive comic collection. He was deeply in debt, so decided to sell his collection to make a few quid. He put them on eBay in bundles, and thought he knew which ones were worth decent money as he considered himself knowledgeable about such things. They were all eclipsed by his sister’s Mistys, that he also listed while he was at it. There was a bidding frenzy and they went for a fortune!
