Anyone remember this, from late 70s/early 80s?

It's become almost an obsession for me, trying to find a story from a comic, from mid/late 70s or early 80s.
I remember in a young kids' comic or annual, there was a (possibly one-off) story called Ready, Teddy, Go!

I remember it being very very cute, and had 3 little bears running a race (possibly on a running track).

It was very short, ie maybe took up only half a page of the comic.
Anyone remember this??

Comics I remember getting were Twinkle, Rupert, Playhour, those kind of things, then Beezer, Judy etc.

My family now think I've invented or dreamt the whole thing 😆

Can anyone help? 😖

(Note, It's *not the Ready Teddy Go article in the Bunty annual 1982 🫣)

I was born in ‘73, I remember an actual Teddy Bear comic with three bears but I think it was from the late 60’s because I was given them by my nan’s next door neighbour’s daughter who was a little older than me.

THANK YOU for that link @maximist a story I read in a comic about 30 years ago that often pops into my mind is in it. 'No pity for Paula' I've often tried to find it over the years with no luck it's great to see I wasn't actually imagining it!

Zonder · 20/03/2024 13:52

I loved Misty too. Lots of the stories in that were a bit spooky I think?

Does anyone remember Cheeky weekly? I loved that.

Was just going to say, was it the actual Teddy Bear comic?

I was born in 1965 so early 70s I had Teddy Bear, then progressed to Twinkle, then Bunty.

I remember Misty but thought it was one half of Tammy and Misty - or am i misremembering?

God I loved the doll hospital in Twinkle.

Misty is being republished by Rebellion (the publishers of 2000AD), 3 volumes and a hardback compendium so far I think: https://shop.2000ad.com/catalogue/RCA-G0021/misty-45-years-of-fear

Probably not - over the years the separate comics like Tammy, Misty, Judy, Bunty, Mandy, maybe some others, did various mergers until eventually there were none left. So it depends on the years in question.

UneTasse · 20/03/2024 14:23

I’m so glad Misty got the recognition she deserved!

looks like I wasn't imagining it - happy Sat mornings - I would lie awake waiting for the drop on the doormat - Tammy and Misty for me and Beano and Whizzer and Chips for my DBs.

I don't know for sure, but I don't think so. In my mind, it was just a story within a comic :/

So sad really that comics aren't really the thing they used to be I swear it's the one thing that gets kids to enjoy reading . The stories were full of slapstick humour and also emotions about things about dollies and teddies .
I swear the new Whizzer and Chips annual used to cause so much excitement in our house , the tension of who would get to read it first ...

Your one sounds like the Valda stories from Mandy.

This is such a brilliant website! Just disappeared down a rabbit hole of story memories... Thank you!

The Four Marys - yes!

I was bed-bound for several months after an accident when I was about 9 and a friend gave me huge piles of Tammys, Mandys, Buntys and more to read. They totally transported me. Loving this thread!

I still say ready, Teddy, go! In many situations, I vaguely remember reading it somewhere in the 70s

This. I used to buy my kids comics when they were little but they were crap. It was much more about the plastic tat on the front and not about exciting stories.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 21/03/2024 08:01

It sounds familiar, maybe something from Little Star?
