What Spanish liqueur/spirit I'm struggling to remember

We used to have a bottle of smth very strong. This is key. It was 50%+. We bought it in duty free in Spain (Majorca I think). It was a biggish bottle. A litre perhaps. Dark glass. Tall rather than puffy. I remember the label was yellowish but could be mistaken.
The drink was strong (well 50%), dark, sweet, aromatic.
We used to add it to coffee.

And it is not Kahlua because Kahlua is only 20%. And it was definitely something Spanish.

Please help me remember

I don’t think it’s that strong but liqor43?

GrumpySock · 19/03/2024 20:32

@RJnomore1 Naah that one was a bit different. I think I remember some picture with a dancing girl 💃 but maybe I'm imagining things
I remember offering it to guests and every time everyone would comment how unusual that it was so strong

Check my name out. Vanilla , sweet, lovely in coffee or as my name suggests, on the rocks.

Oops just seen it’s already been suggested.

GrumpySock · 19/03/2024 20:54

Orujo?

zinky · 19/03/2024 20:58

Baileys ?

SwedishEdith · 19/03/2024 20:58

Palo? Just googled Majorcan aperitifs.

Jeannne92 · 19/03/2024 20:58

Pacharán

IntermittentFarting · 19/03/2024 21:02

Wasn’t Tunel was it?
Can’t remember what it’s like, just that it’s absolutely rank.

Orujo?

That's my guess also. Like grappa and very strong! The old lads would have a glass with their coffee in the morning in Galicia and the North of Spain. Not sure if it's popular elsewhere.

PeatandDieselfan · 19/03/2024 21:05

Your description makes me think of Tia Maria, but pretty sure that's made in Italy (but from a Spanish recipe developed in Jamaica....)

GrumpySock · 19/03/2024 21:08

Cannot recognise any of these.
It was of dark colour not creamy. Spicy and aromatic. Not bitter but sweet.

There was smth at the back of the etiquette about drinking it with coffee

Cognac or brandy?

I think cognac is french but my husband (who is Spanish) says it's popular in Spain. Maybe it's a specific Majorcan drink?

Suchardchoccy · 19/03/2024 21:12

@43ontherocksporfavor lobe 43!! I've been to the factory to see how it's made!

Quizine · 19/03/2024 21:16

What am I doing on this thread, I've been teetotal all my life! But I enjoy other people trying different things esp. when abroad somewhere. I did try a sip of Fernet Branca in Italy once. That put me off any thoughts of alcohol for life ha ha!

fedupwithbeingcold · 19/03/2024 21:16

Anis el mono

What Spanish liqueur/spirit I'm struggling to remember
GrumpySock · 19/03/2024 21:18

Definitely not with the anis seed! It tasted nice 😅
