Is this mottled skin in toddler ??

She is on the way to hospital and I'm at home with the baby, worried sick, does this look like mottled skin?
She has bacterial tonsillitis diagnosed at hospital a couple of days ago, she has antibiotics, but I'm worried it's actually Scarlett fever as over the weekend she had bright red cheeks like she had sunburn, I noticed a very slight colourless rough rash on her thigh, looked almost like raised hair follicles and were struggling to control her temp even though she had antibiotics, she's been on them since Sunday evening now

Very hard to tell from those pictures what the rash is but I wouldn't say it looks like scarlet fever. Is she well hydrated? Mottled skin can be caused by dehydration

She's drank more today than yesterday, but up until yesterday she was drinking loads but not eating, doctor said due to the sore throat
I'm so annoyed at myself as I'm pretty sure her tongue had that strawberry appearance a couple of days ago too and I just didn't even think to link it
This is day 13 of her being ill

My daughter's skin looks like that when she is cold. I know you said she has a temperature but she may still be feeling a bit chilly? Assume you're giving Calpol for the temp?

Calpol has done absolutely nothing for her temp the last week, only nurofen helps and we're limited to 3 doses in 24 hours ! The temp just keeps coming back, it's hit 40.1 this morning and it did yesterday too. Last night was up and down
I'm freaking out now

I'm wondering if she needs intravenous antibiotics instead

If her temperature is spiking at 40 get her seen by a Dr. I go that colour when I'm cold but given the rest of her story I'd be taking her for medical attention personally.

Try not to worry - she will be assessed by the doctor when she gets to hospital.

Can you alternate Calpol and neurofen? Hopefully there's not too long a wait at the hospital and they can reassure and perhaps give an indication of timescales for improving

It might be or it could just be a viral rash? Fwiw scarlet fever is so easily treated. I hope she's OK.

Yes it’s mottling. This needs to be seen asap. Please update us x

The antibiotics given for tonsillitis would likely also cover scarlet fever, the treatment would be the same. It’s good she’s being checked at hospital, but try not to worry too much, it’s not like the treatment would have been any different. Unfortunately some strains of the bacteria that cause throat infections are resistant to the commonly used antibiotics so they may need to prescribe a different one. Hope she’s feeling better soon.

I've convinced myself it's sepsis I do suffer from anxiety badly, I've had to have a diazepam to calm down, it's the fact this fever just will not let up
We've been alternating calpol and Heiden for the last 10 days basically. Sunday it wouldn't budge at all so we rang 11 who said hospital

I've had sepsis and a sepsis rash did not look remotely like mottling and I was seriously unwell, very clearly so. I'm not a Dr or medically trained in anyway but you need to just try to relax and stop worst case thinking.

We are still in cold, flu and COVID season. It's far more likely to be one of those. Try and use some breathing exercises or get some fresh air and distract yourself while you wait for some news. She's in the best place.

Honestly we’ve been through something similar a few weeks ago and she was fine. Dd had a fever going above 40 for 2 weeks and the gp sent us to hospital. It is scary I know but they’re tougher than you think and you’re getting her checked out

When my baby had sepsis, she had very obviously dark purple blotchy legs, so it didn't look like your photos at all. But you are doing the right thing in getting her checked out and hopefully its just a case of the antibiotics taking their time to kick in. Hope she's seen by the doctor and on the mend soon.

One of .my children was rashy after every .illness until she was about 6 or 7 . I had her at the Gp and sometimes out of hours so many times, it just seemed to be her bodies response.

Thank you everyone.
I've calmed down a bit now.
Maybe it is just needing a little longer to kick in.
It's just how she got a temp over Mother's Day weekend initially, got better then this weekend just gone the temp came back really high, red cheeks like sunburn which I just blamed on the temp at the time, this funny little patch of a rash on her leg and her tongue had that strawberry thing but I'm so tired atm having a new baby and a poorly toddler I just didn't think to link any of it
