Is it time to leave Mumsnet?

I joined when my children were at primary school. They are now in the their 20’s.
Mumsnet was a site where you could get advice, have a rant, or a laugh - some of the classic threads were hilarious. Sometimes the discussions could get a bit heated and I learnt (the hard way), that you should never start ask an AIBU if you are not prepared for a backlash, but it still felt like a community. What happened?
Mumsnet today is a different beast. Long, chat-gpt posts, bots, trolls, links to crazy sites and the likelihood that any comment you make will end up in an article in daily fail’s side bar of shame.

What has happened? I really miss the Mumsnet of old.

Omfg what a predictable, tedious response. People are allowed to wonder wtf happened you know.

FWIW OP - I agree, it’s weird. However I’m unhealthily addicted.

AutumnFroglets · 18/03/2024 21:25

I think I prefer Flounders corner. Makes it more cosy.

Bananalanacake · 18/03/2024 21:26

Well I like it so I'm staying, I've learnt so much, before I joined I'd never heard of cocklodgers, grief thief's and cheeky fuckers, I'm sure there's more.

PangolinPan · 18/03/2024 21:26

If I discovered a talk board that was like talk boards used to be I'd be off. I don't think anywhere is different though.

Twitter really changed how people speak to each other online for the very worst.

AnneLovesGilbert · 18/03/2024 21:26

If it’s not serving you well then take a break. You may end up coming back.

hollyandivyknickers · 18/03/2024 21:26

Surely the correct reply is ‘off you fuck, cunty chops’

larkstar · 18/03/2024 21:31

@ItsTapasTime I think you’re overthinking it and taking it way too seriously - it’s the Internet FGS - don’t take anything to heart and ignore all the crap - you can get a lot that’s positive out of the site but your real life is what really matters.

EcstaticMarmalade · 18/03/2024 21:38

It waxes and wanes, like anything. I really fell out of using it about 2-3 years ago because it didn’t chime but the last while I’ve felt more in tune with it again

ItsTapasTime · 18/03/2024 21:38

@larkstar perhaps. I always thought Mumsnet was a safe haven to discuss things anonymously. It seems to be more like twitter (x🙄) these days. A post starts - great discussion and then by page 2 it’s totally derailed.
There doesn’t seem to be any SM now that isn’t derailed by bots/trolls/ crappy journalists

I know, I know. You're allowed to say it.
I miss it too.

RoberttPostesChild · 18/03/2024 21:40

Same here @ItsTapasTime MN of old could be... bracing, but it was more real. I think there is far less traffic that there used to be, so the pool of interesting posters has shrunk.

Mysterian · 18/03/2024 21:44

I'm a flat fish who, despite having both eyes sticking out the top of my head, am worried about people sneaking up on me. Is there a plaice place for me here?

ssd · 18/03/2024 21:44

I miss the feeling of companionship you used to get here. It feels more dog eat dog now.

Newgolddream70 · 18/03/2024 21:47

Great place for recommendations though! In the past two weeks I have purchased the buttery leggings and the Garnier BB cream 😃

QueenBitch666 · 18/03/2024 21:47

I have Mumsnet to thank for ICK , LTB and Cheeky Fuckers. Forever grateful Grin

The nostalgia!

See OP - there’s one MN tradition that’s still going.

ChiefEverythingOfficer · 18/03/2024 21:51

I agree @ItsTapasTime - after a 23 tenure - I am thinking that MN is headed the same way Tiktok, FB, Insta (never had Twitter) have gone for me.

It's a frightening future - and happening so fast.

I would be interested to hear from MNHQ on what they are doing to combat bots and AI fuelled rubbish.

I reported a thread yesterday that was just complete rubbish - think Soviet style misinformation. MN would not delete it because it didn't break any guidelines. I think the time has come to revise the guidelines.

BigButtons · 18/03/2024 21:52
