How long in days or weeks does a full tank of petrol last you and how many miles
Driving a 2009 ford fiesta
Having to fill it every 1.5 weeks. Roughly every 128 miles

A tank lasts two week for me. No long journeys...just school run, shopping and local stuff really.

dinosaurs4u · 18/03/2024 18:46

1.6 Nissan juke
Full tank - 370 miles
Filling up every 2/3 weeks

LucyLaundry · 18/03/2024 18:47

Once every other month. 700 Miles. Diesel not petrol though.

Riverlee · 18/03/2024 18:48

Our old Astra was approx 250 miles. Just replaced it and hoping the new car will be more efficient (can’t say yet as only just got it).

How large is your tank though - that sounds incredibly small.
My mini does about 320 miles from a tank - costs about £50 to fill it currently.
Lasts about a week

Volvovolvo · 18/03/2024 18:50

1.1ltr

How big is your tank though? My fiesta has a small one so I fill up more often compared to my DDs car.

BobnLen · 18/03/2024 18:51

I had a 2009 fiesta previously and it did at least 300 miles a tank

LetsBePositive10 · 18/03/2024 18:51

Pre EV £50 every week with an estimated range of 750 miles. That didn’t happen at all as we had a 3l turbo diesel not designed for short trips. We now have a Tesla and about £20 a week. And with the added bonus of no petrol station trips. Just charge it overnight.

WreckTangled · 18/03/2024 18:52

Full tank (£80 from empty) diesel c600 miles Lasts me two weeks.

ThereIsATInWater · 18/03/2024 18:54

2008 zafira, 1.6 petrol.

Roughly put in 55 litres a month, depending where I fill up (usually costco) costs around £70 to fill up.
Do around 300 miles.

LetsBePositive10 · 18/03/2024 18:54

Oh, mileage is about 250-300 dependent on weather and pre-conditioning the engine. When it was freezing we defrosted the car from the house and it was a toasty 19 degrees inside when it was -5 outside. That was a huge bonus. Not tried the air con in summer yet.

Pixiedust1234 · 18/03/2024 18:57

Looks like a 2009 Fiesta is 45 litres. Some cars can be 80 litres OP. You need to compare how many litres per mile each car is using. Town driving uses up more than motorway too.

LucyLaundry · 18/03/2024 19:04

That's how big the engine is, not how big your petrol tank is 🤣

GasPanic · 18/03/2024 19:07

Doesn't sound right to me.

45 litres is 10.7 gallons. If you do 128 miles then that is 12.8 miles per gallon, which is rotten economy for a 1.1l engine.

Possibilities :

Leak in tank.
Someone is nicking your petrol.
Leak in fuel injection system (between the tank and the engine).

Check under the car and sniff around to see whether there are any leaks. Sometimes people drill the tanks to nick the petrol and the tank leaks as a result.

Do you have a lockable fuel cap ?

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 18/03/2024 19:08

Approx £50-£55 of petrol at current prices lasts me about 350-400 miles which is just under a month of driving. But I have a 2002 hybrid Jazz so it's pretty efficient.

PurpleSealion · 18/03/2024 19:27

2015 Nissan Micra around 380 miles ( it tells me when I fill up) and will last me around a month. Costs about £55.00 to fill up

GasPanic · 18/03/2024 19:31

You can test the leak theory by filling up late and night, checking the gauge is full and then checking the gauge status the next morning.

Fuel injection is harder because it will probably just use more fuel as you drive, but you may be able to smell some petrol round say the fuel pump.

Someone I know had one in the past that had the tank drilled about 1/2 way up. So long as you didn't fill the tank more than 1/2 full it was ok as regards fuel loss. Obviously it is not the sort of thing you want to drive around indefinitely in that state though.

CrushingOnRubies · 18/03/2024 19:48

Fill up about every 10/14 days atm

Toyota Aygo drive about 200 miles a week depends what I'm doing at the weekend tbh.

When I'm working fulll time fill up once a week

oprahwindsock · 18/03/2024 19:50

Golf a tank does 500 miles and an average 45/55 mpg

Tumbleweed101 · 18/03/2024 20:00

Think a full tank on my Kia is about 325 miles. I fill up about every three weeks on an average month.

PuttingDownRoots · 18/03/2024 20:07

In the 56 plate petrol clio, DH manages a 460 mile round trip to work, plus a bit of driving around while there.

In the 218 diesel landrover, its about 400 miles.
