Worried sick about DH - need a hand hold

username28474 · 18/03/2024 18:29

DH started to feel unwell almost 3 weeks ago. It took 5 trips to the GP to get antibiotics however it was too late and he was rushed into hospital. He is now in intravenous antibiotics since Saturday but is still not improving and they are now worried about organ damage.
I feel sick with worry we have a young DC and very limited childcare help.
DH is my rock and the calm rational one. Today I could see his fear.
Really just need to talk to someone / a hand hold

This was my DH a few weeks ago. Hand holding and hoping he turns the corner soon. DH is now home and gradually getting stronger.

Thank you everyone. They think (further blood result pending) it's something with his stomach/potentially something he has eaten that has contained bacteria.
In a way he has only been on antibiotics three days now but I was hoping there would be more/ atleast some improvement by now

Another handhold here, wishing you and your family positive thoughts, have you got friends and family who can support you. Is he being well looked after, he is in the right place.

Hope it comes as some reassurance that he's surrounded by experts who are dedicated to getting him better.

I know it's scary but I promise you - you are stronger than you think.

You, your husband and your little one WILL get through this together.

Sending love xx

So maybe they’ll need to try different antibiotics to find the one that’ll squash the bacteria that he’s got. What have the doctors said?

My DH had double pneumonia and was in ICU - he’s at home, healthy and well now but I still remember the terror of him being so unwell. I’ll be thinking of you.

Be patient. He’s in the right place. Sometimes it takes time.

Remember to breathe and eat properly. He needs you strong now.

Sorry i’m a mum i can’t help but give practical advice ❤️❤️❤️

Hand-holding Op. Flowers My husband is my rock too and I can't imagine how anxious you must be. Keeping everything crossed that the meds kick in and DH bounces back quickly.

Hand hold from me. It is only day 3 of antibiotics, hopefully tomorrow he will turn a corner. You both have each other and you will get through this. Look after yourselfFlowers

Something very similar happened to my FIL recently @Gettingonmygoat. It took more than six days on antibiotics to stabilise him; for a few days it seemed like three separate antibiotics were doing bugger all. But he's alright now, still in hospital but on the mend. It's early days for your DH. Thinking of you.

It sounds like they're managing to pinpoint what's wrong now. It's amazing how things can take a turn for the better once specific rather than broad spectrum antibiotics are used.

Like a PP said, remember to eat well and breathe and do something with your little one every day that makes you laugh. DD is 10 so it's a bit different but I tried to keep to our routine and keep things as normal as possible for her.

How's things today @username28474?

Report
username28474 · 19/03/2024 19:44

Thanks everyone.

DH has slightly improved which is obviously good and I'm hoping means the antibiotics are finally starting to work. For the first time he actually wanted to eat something today. His temperature is still going very high and we are still waiting for a scan on his organs which as I'm someone with health anxiety worries me a lot.

Trying to stay positive I think I'm just feeling completely overwhelmed. I got home and despite feeling abit better than yesterday just burst into tears. I feel like I'm just holding it in the entire day.
