Arghhhh! Day 2 and no better! What’s everyone’s remedies for sorting their necks out? I have a pilates class this morning that I don’t want to miss!! It’s so painful.

It’s more the top of my shoulder all along neck , along shoulder and down a bit

Pilates will probably sort it out! I feel your pain though - it's horrible when you sleep funny and get a crick in your neck.

ButterflyTable · 18/03/2024 07:10

Thanks @DatingDinosaur I’ve had it before but it’s pretty brutal this morning, very stiff and painful! Fingers crossed for Pilates!

No advice but I've had the same for the last couple of days and no idea what to do with my toddler all day! Finally some nice weather as well.

It’s throbbing it hurts to breathe!

feel like a right wimp! I can’t brush my hair!

it hurts when I pass wind! All the muscles seem really hard and stiff.

the pain is giving me nausea and I have a high pain threshold (dry socket, gallbladder pain all tolerated)!

I have had a neck problem for many years. I bought a pillow from Amazon for about £20. It was a real game changer for me It is shaped on one side for neck problems and the other for shoulder.I now wake up pain free .

Starlightstargazer · 19/03/2024 08:54

I’ve got this too! I’ve heard an osteopath or good deep massage is effective - I can’t afford these, but you might be able to.

This sounds great! What pillow is it?

OfMiceandWomen · 19/03/2024 15:32

Im not sure of the name but I’ve had it a few years now.
If you look on Amazon there are quite a few similar ones I’m not sure how to do a link.
I used to unable to move when I woke up because my neck was so stiff but it has really improved since I started using a pillow specifically for neck problems

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 19/03/2024 15:48

Painkillers and a hot water bottle to relax the muscles.

ButterflyTable · 19/03/2024 16:37

Thank you. I couldn’t bare anyone to touch it today I’ve taken ibuprofen which does seem to have helped and booked chiropractor tomorrow £50!!!! But I can’t keep feeling sick with pain it’s bonkers! I’ve babies ffs what’s wrong with me!

also have some heat pads somewhere will try those

I'm currently seeing an Osteopath for a recurring sore neck problem.
I've been before so I hope it works again!

Greebosmum · 19/03/2024 18:46

Deep Heat is very soothing if you can cope with the smell.

ButterflyTable · 20/03/2024 07:43

Hello, it’s not getting better. The pain is now radiating down my arm. It actually feels like it’s getting worse, although ibroprofen is managing the pain and helps me a bit more mobile. But I’m awake in the night as soon as the painkiller wears off, I can’t raise my arms to brush my hair, struggling to lean forward to brush my teeth.

it’s horrible pain sharp.

I used to get this, sometimes it was that bad I felt sick. I bought a memory foam pillow, shaped a bit like a kidney Bean, this shape supports my head & neck. It's quite flat too as I sleep on my Stomach and side a lot. I still very occasionally get a bad neck and shoulder (and yes, it goes down my arm too) but i'm 100% better than I was.

I think you need to go and see a doctor.

Damnloginpopup · 20/03/2024 08:19

Definitely go to a doctor. You may have trapped something.

Ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory. Tablets are good for that but paracetamol are more effective painkillers. I always take both together for issues but do not take this as medical advice as I'm a random person on the internet. The gel is also good for localised issues (I've got it on my knee as we speak).

Hope it passes soon, it's a bastard.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 20/03/2024 08:23

I had a bad neck about a month ago. So painful. I could not turn my head at all (side to side or up and down) and my daughter had to come to chemist with me as I wasn't safe to cross the road by myself.

It took about a week for it to mostly go but I think I still need to see someone as still cannot fully turn neck I don't think.

I did buy a new pillow from John Lewis this week. It's a memory foam one and it's raised at the front and back and a bit lower in the middle. It's really comfy to sleep on and I do think the slight nagging pain I have had since I hurt it is getting better. It was £50 so not cheap but it had good reviews.

Millersmerkin · 20/03/2024 08:55

A good acupuncturist fixed mine. Though my neck problems stem from and unstable rib joint between shoulder blades. A small movement will sometimes send it into spasm which is terrible and takes about a week to subside.
When it's not hurting I use stretching, yoga, neck cloud good pillow to try and prevent (pillows are a problem as one that works for ages like my latex one suddenly won't and I have to switch for a while)

ButterflyTable · 20/03/2024 10:11

I’ll see the chiro today see what he says - ibuprofen isn’t touching it this morning. It’s feeling like nerve pain really feel it in the base of my head neck shoulders and down my left arm.

OP posts:
ButterflyTable · 20/03/2024 10:11

Not tort - but I feel like that with head to the side

OP posts:
lifebeginsaftercoffee · 20/03/2024 11:18

I wouldn't go to a chiropractor - I would go to a proper medical professional who can check you over and give you the appropriate treatment, which may or may not include a chiropractor.

ButterflyTable · 20/03/2024 12:06

@lifebeginsaftercoffee why not a chiropractor are they not proper? I could probably get a physio or do you think I need to go to doctor.
i feel really in a lot of pain and ibuprofen is helping but once it wears off the pain is quite severe and actually debilitating

OP posts:
Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 20/03/2024 12:10

@ButterflyTable

I could not move because of the pain and the doctors told me nothing they could do just take painkillers!
