Spoon or fork for curry and rice

Just curious to know if most people in UK would use a spoon or a fork to eat their curry and rice. I know traditional it would be eaten with a chapati/ roti and fingers( which is how I was brought up to eat it) but how would you eat it at home. We went to a Bengali restaurant last week, and the table was only laid with knife and fork, no spoon. My family use a fork, but at friend's house the other day they only offered us a spoon.

Dinosaurpoo · 16/03/2024 20:02

Both!! Fork for the bigger bits and a spoon for the saucy bits!

Fork, spoon for my dc who are under 5

MandyMotherOfBrian · 16/03/2024 20:02

Possibly both but it depends on how liquidy the 'curry' gravy is. Agree bread is key though.

chattyness · 16/03/2024 20:03

fork and a flat bread

Mrsjayy · 16/03/2024 20:03

fork and I soak up sauce with a nan.

youngestisapsycho · 16/03/2024 20:03

Small bits of rice and sauce def needs a spoon!

blackcatsruleok · 16/03/2024 20:03

Fork. Spoon is weird for this!

TheFancyPoet · 16/03/2024 20:03

May be you serve it on the rice with a spoon and eat with a fork

Revelatio · 16/03/2024 20:05

Depends what type of curry, and there’s no real logic to it on my side. I eat Indian/Bangladeshi/Pakistani curries with a fork, chopsticks for Thai/Vietnamese/Indonesian.

Limelemonx · 16/03/2024 20:06

I would eat with a fork if in public but at home with a takeaway I'd eat with a spoon!🤣

VivaVivaa · 16/03/2024 20:06

Fork. Spoons are for breakfast and soup.

lotsofpeoplenametheirswords · 16/03/2024 20:06

Thai people eat with a fork and spoon - it makes a lot of sense for rice and noodle dishes.

QueSyrahSyrah · 16/03/2024 20:08

Fork. Spoons are for liquid.

Covetthee · 16/03/2024 20:08

Spoon.

as a middle easterner baffles me seeing people trying to eat rice and curry style dishes with a fork 🤣

our side of the world spoon all the way. Our forks our used in the way a knife is here… ( to help the scoop etc)

boozeclues · 16/03/2024 20:08

Fingers always! It honestly tastes so different eating with metal utensils.

at a push, fork. Bit I would hate every second
