Would you go to a pop concert on your own?

I really want to go to a concert of my favourite boy band from 00s but none of my friends want to go with me. I’m 50 this year and I think even at the time when this boy band was at the height of their fame, I was quite older than other fans ( I was getting to late 20s back then while fans were all teens!) - so no wonder none of my friends share my obsession!

I could drag my husband to come with me but the tickets are so expensive that I don’t want to pay for his ticket if he is not going to enjoy it anyway…

So, I’m contemplating if I should go on my own. I’ve never been to a pop concert on my own and I am not sure if I’m brave enough to go solo!

Has anyone been to a pop concert on your own? Am I too old to go to a concert on my own?

Yes, loads of times. It's actually quite nice not having to worry about others and just enjoying yourself! And I'm a similar age to you. Go for it, you'll love it.

TheChosenTwo · 14/03/2024 00:16

I’d do it on my own. I’d do most things on my own tbh, theatre, dinner, cinema, concert - you’re going to see a performance by someone else, it’s only important that the performer is there!!

Twokittycats · 14/03/2024 00:20

I’ve been on my own, I had a fab time! Once it starts you lose yourself in it and it doesn’t matter if you have company or not 😊 It was a big deal for me as I’d never been on my own but I enjoyed it and felt proud of myself after.

Yes been to loads and I’m mid forties. Never felt out of place and a nostalgic gif like that will be a bonding experience with complete strangers! Go and love it!

mrsfollowill · 14/03/2024 00:31

I'd do it- you are in a room full of people who all love the same band and will get chatting- that's what always happens to me anyway. Last gig I went to with DH the woman sitting next to me was massively into the band and I made a new friend that night! We were hi fiving all over the place Grin

YouDidntEvenAskIfSheWasThereMoriarty · 14/03/2024 00:33

I've been to countless gigs by myself. I've been to entire festivals by myself.

You're absolutely not too old!

Blahahahah · 14/03/2024 00:35

I'm going to TT on my own 🙂

justinhawkinsnavalfluff · 14/03/2024 00:37

Do it! Your never too old!

I'm the same, often go to things alone, including to see bands. No-one else liked the bands I did. Do it OP, you'll have a great time.

Oblomov24 · 14/03/2024 04:20

Yes. I did this last year. Went to see the Weeknd with ds2. Decided to go and see him again, on my own. So glad I did.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 14/03/2024 04:23

Yes. My friend let me down last minute and I went anyway. Had an absolute blast.

ohfook · 14/03/2024 04:35

I do. I love music and used to go to gigs all the time. Once my friends and I began having kids it tailed off because of everyone having to re-prioritise time and finances we could never find a gig everyone was free to go to and all wanted to spend their cash on.

I had a bit of a fuck it moment when I dropped dh off at the match and realised he goes to every game on his own. If he waited until all his mates were able to also get a season ticket he'd never see a single one and nobody looks twice at a man going to the football alone.

Anyway I don't regret it one bit. In fact I highly recommend doing something that brings you joy!

BCBird · 14/03/2024 05:19

Yes. I would.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 14/03/2024 06:07

Yes I always used to and now I go to theatre by myself all the time.

My 16yo also goes on her own - she likes being able to please herself and her music tastes don't always overlap with friends.

donteatthedaisies0 · 14/03/2024 06:41

Yes definitely , before you go it seems a bit like dancing in a room by yourself , but it's nothing like that . You'll be at a concert with people like yourself enjoying the music . There will be others like yourself .

Chaoseverywhere · 14/03/2024 06:45

I go on my own all the time. I love live music and go very regularly mostly on my own. Mostly I’m older than the majority of people there although there are a mix. It doesn’t bother me. I love going. I’ve done it since I was 14. I’m now 58 nearly 59. I’ll be going on Friday and the week after too.

Mairzydotes · 14/03/2024 06:52

It would depend on the venue. If I could get parked , then yes. I wouldn't go to a small gig in a dodgy pub somewhere.

I think it's because I'm a woman. My husband frequently goes to gigs himself.

Aerowispa · 14/03/2024 06:52

Thank you everyone!!
I’m a bit introvert and the thought of being surrounded by strangers freaks me out but I am now so encouraged by everyone’s comments and experiences!
I think I will give it a go and buy myself a ticket for the concert!
Thank you all!

Yep! Go for it OP.

WaltzingWaters · 14/03/2024 06:55

I would do and have done in the past for both concerts and theatre.

Usernamewassavedsuccessfully · 14/03/2024 07:02

I do regularly - I'd never go otherwise.
Is it Blue? My friends just got tickets for them, they are very excited!

Romeiswheretheheartis · 14/03/2024 07:05

I used to go to gigs all the time. I'm older than you, and recently saw tickets advertised for someone who I'd really love to see, and before I could think about it I'd bought myself a ticket! Really looking forward to it. Hope you go and enjoy.

Tryingtogetitright · 14/03/2024 07:09

I had the same dilemma, then a single resale ticket came up in row C of the stalls... too good to miss out on! I am going to a concert on my own for the first time next month. Really excited!! I'm 44.

DuchessOfSausage · 14/03/2024 07:10

I've done it a few times. It was fine.

VenusClapTrap · 14/03/2024 07:27

I went to see a-ha on my own a few years ago after my friend couldn’t go. The creepy guy who bought her ticket from the re-selling site we put it on seemed to think we were on some kind of date at first (commented how odd it was that ‘my husband had let me go with him’ - I set him straight) but I buddied up with the girls on the other side of me and we had a blast.
