What word can you NEVER spell? Even if you're good at spelling

I am good at spelling. Can do really long words. But two words I can never spell, no matter how hard I try:

Brocolli and cappucino

Some of the odd ones with ie/ei: view, weird, Sheila.

Same! Received hard one for me and experience

Blahblarblehbleh1 · 12/03/2024 23:17

Necessarily

SwordToFlamethrower · 12/03/2024 23:53

Diahreah

highlandcoo · 13/03/2024 00:21

I sometimes hesitate with anemone and remunerate, but more with the pronunciation than the spelling really.

Long words like diarrhoea, and words like definitely and necessary I'm OK with, but I get more mixed up with niece and gauge, which would actually look better the other way round; that's the problem. Also dais. That's a nightmare.

And minuscule should really be miniscule imo Grin

MaidOfSteel · 13/03/2024 00:34

Weird. It doesn't follow the 'I before e...' rule!
I really have to stop and think when I'm.typjng/writing haemorrhage.
And battalion. I always want to go for a single t and double l.

Yes, weird is weird 😆

Heifer. Not that I have to write it very often. But Seamus Heaney seemed fond of it when we were doing 'A' level poetry in school. I'm ok with weird though. And most of the other 'ie/ei' rule breakers.

It's amazing how many of us have cause to spell diarrhoea🤣🤣 I only started to be confident with the spelling when my son was diagnosed with Crohn's. Now I know it well unfortunately!

amusedbush · 13/03/2024 10:40

Relevant/relavent.

Bureaucracy. I have previously messed that one up so badly, even my phone's autocorrect didn't know how to help me. "beaurauc..."

Manual. I always have to remind myself that Manuel is from Fawlty Towers, not a type of gearbox 😅

February and library - always get the middle r wrong. Plus anxiety put the x in wrong place.

That reminds me of Scrubs when the janitor corrects Troy for calling it a "libary", then Troy later says "your face is red like a strawbrerry" 😂

Instantcustard · 13/03/2024 11:44

Sobre and saber - I still don't know which way round the e and r go.

PrincessOfPreschool · 13/03/2024 13:56

And minuscule should really be miniscule imo

I didn't even know I was spelling it wrong!

171513mum · 13/03/2024 13:58

Diarrhoea, hemorrhage and ocassion. I'm really good at spelling and I have to type ocassion all the time, I don't know why it doesn't stick. Maybe the fact that my autocorrect in word changes it for me means I never actually practise spelling it right.

takemeawayagain · 13/03/2024 13:59

Muslei. I'm so convinced that it should be spelt Muslei that I always spell it that way even though I know it's wrong.

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 12/03/2024 21:50

One Coffee two Sugars. That doesn't help much with the e's and a though!

Mine is Never Eat Cake Eat Salmon Sandwiches And Remain Young.

Just as predicted by Gloria Estefan 😁

Giggorata · 13/03/2024 14:05

I have always been good at spelling but as soon as I began to learn French, I forgot how to spell the word “exercise” in English.
I’ve just about got it again now.

RedRum27 · 13/03/2024 14:08

Ocassion (it has the red dotted line underneath)

I never get the c’s and s’ the right way round.

Diarrhoea until someone told me ‘dash in a real rush hurry or else accident!’

IamaRevenant · 13/03/2024 14:14

Caribbean

and

Broccoli

I always forget whether it's two Rs and one B or vice versa for Caribbean, and same with broccoli - two Cs and one L or the other way around??

I'm a bit of a SPAG pedant (not so much on here but in general) so it annoys me that I have to rely on spellcheck for those every time, but I'm resigned to it now! I seem to have some kind of insurmountable mental block 😬

ooochickenfriedrice · 13/03/2024 14:38

Massachusetts.
Luckily it doesn't come up that often.

Jellycatspyjamas · 13/03/2024 15:35

Bureacracy. Bureucracy. Bureaucracy. Hmm, took me 3 goes, better than normal.

Me too, though I usually just give up and find another way of saying it. I should just learn it tbh.
