What word can you NEVER spell? Even if you're good at spelling

I am good at spelling. Can do really long words. But two words I can never spell, no matter how hard I try:

Brocolli and cappucino

OP posts:

Mattress
Occasionally

Flippingfruitflies · 12/03/2024 20:43

looking at all the replies and realising there’s loads of words I struggle to spell 🫣
Diarrhoea and chihuahua were the ones that came to mind.

Nellodee · 12/03/2024 20:50

Thank you ILoveSalmonSpread!

Occasionally gets me every time, but then I can never remember which word it is that I can’t spell (because I only ever need to write it occasionally). I had to read through the entire thread because I knew eventually someone would struggle with the same word and it would jog my memory.

Spyral · 12/03/2024 20:50

Weird, always want to spell it wierd...although now that looks weird!! Lol

DramaAlpaca · 12/03/2024 20:51

My children's school once sent home a newsletter with three different spellings of the word calendar on the same page - calendar, calander and calender.

I was seriously tempted to circle them all with a red pen and send them back to the school principal. I'm not a total bitch though, so I restrained myself.

@TigerRag

For necessary, try remembering one coffee, two sugars

Makes it easier to remember the c's and s's

Iamblossom · 12/03/2024 20:56

Because

StoatofDisarray · 12/03/2024 20:59

Separate!

CrushingOnRubies · 12/03/2024 20:59

Necessary
Business- autocorrect struggles to know what I'm on about with this one

turquoisediamond · 12/03/2024 21:02

Eczema
Psychopath (can't believe no one said this one. I can never remember and I always make such a fudge of it even autocorrect doesn't know what I'm trying to say!)

The Lego film helped me with Lloyd ("La-Loyd")

Aisle and lieu (as "time in lieu") are my nemesis'

Edited

Lieu for me too!

Necessary

At school we were taught 'One collar and two sleeves' to remember necessary.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 12/03/2024 21:06

Lose/loose

BreakfastAtMilliways · 12/03/2024 21:08

Arrabiatta? Arrabbiata? Arrabbiatta?

How many r’s and b’s and t’s?

I’m actually quite the spelling ninja but double letters are the one thing that catches me out.

JaffaCake70 · 12/03/2024 21:12

Diarrhoea
Viscous
Conscious

LittleGreenDuck · 12/03/2024 21:13

Joseph

I know how to spell it, my fingers just can't type the letters in the right order. Always takes at least two attempts.

Iloveyoubut · 12/03/2024 21:13

Definitely! I just van’s spell it! ! It used to be necessary until I learned never eat cheese, eat salad sandwiches and remain young! 😂

TheForgetfulCat · 12/03/2024 21:15

Psychology and spaghetti.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 12/03/2024 21:15

I always want to put an 'x' into eczema, I have to think really hard when I write it.

I'm fairly smug that I can spell fuchsia even though it's pronounced few-sha, the turning point was learning that it was named after a man with the surname Fuchs, it became really easy after that.

YouDidntEvenAskIfSheWasThereMoriarty · 12/03/2024 21:16

Those people struggling with autocorrect - try using voice to type instead. It's got me out of a few sticky situations where I get more confused the more I try to spell something.

Like bureaucracy! Another one with too many vowels!

endlesscraziness · 12/03/2024 21:19

Anaesthetist and anaesthetic

Festivemoose · 12/03/2024 21:20

For some reason I always spell biscuit as buscuit. I even spell it out loud this way (when trying to avoid saying the word and alerting DD to my snack plans), so it’s not a two keys close together on the keyboard problem. I have no idea why I do this. We just now call them buscuits in our house.
Another is recipe.

RoberttPostesChild · 12/03/2024 19:07

Definitely definitely.

This one for me too

Trouble remembering the difference between affect and effect (actually effect isthe things you see whilst affect is a cause so maybe I'm getting better)

Stationary stands still and stationery is a bunch of office supplies. Despite getting it right I had to go check.

Also found bureaucracy difficult when @nocoolnamesleft mentioned it but I'm OK now because I reminded myself of bureau.

For this (I was a teacher and embarrassingly had it pointed out to me by a parent!)

StationEry- Envelope

StationAry - At a stop

Xyz1234567 · 12/03/2024 21:24

Not RTHT but good accommodation always has two cots and two mattresses.
I can't spell occasionally/ocassionally
