What word can you NEVER spell? Even if you're good at spelling

I am good at spelling. Can do really long words. But two words I can never spell, no matter how hard I try:

Brocolli and cappucino

It’s usually a double letter or not for me.

Recently I’ve been working on a resilience project and I was just reading back some emails to find I interchange it with one L or two.

Misthios · 12/03/2024 19:15

I am good at spelling but the one which always gets me is abscess. I always write abcess. (not that I write it often, mind).

A few of the above and collaboration…really bad as I work in a field which uses this word A LOT

Misthios · 12/03/2024 19:16

I have to say diarrhoea

best aide-memoire ever for that is "dash in a real rush hurry or else accident".

SiobhanSharpe · 12/03/2024 19:17

My spelling is good. My typing, on the other hand, is shit.
(I did learn to touch type many moons ago as part of journalism training, along with shorthand, all long forgotten)

ScabbyHorse · 12/03/2024 19:17

Practice is a noun; practise is a verb. Same as advice and advise but that one's easier as they are pronounced differently.

FoxtrotOscarFoxtrotOscar · 12/03/2024 19:17

@TheChippendenSpook
Practice is the noun; to practise is the verb (in BrE)

Gauge? Guage? Guauge?

Oh, God, that's mine. I have to write guardian to work out how to write gauge as it's the opposite way round.

recommend, every time, also as above accommodation. It's the c's and m's !

Nomorecoconutboosts · 12/03/2024 19:18

Yes privilege
want to replace the second i with an e.

used to get mixed up with practice/practise - there is no difference in American English which is easier!

how I remember it now is that practise is just the verb/doing word. Practising the violin.
but otherwise it’s practice as a noun such as the Doctor’s practice (or surgery/ medical centre)

FoxtrotOscarFoxtrotOscar · 12/03/2024 19:18

Caribbean for me. Can never remember if it’s two r’s or two b’s.

I see Sheila is in a couple of replies, funnily enough I know a couple of those and also a Shiela in real life.

Manoeuvre always makes me think!

I also have some words that even though I know how to spell them, when I’m typing (particularly if it’s quick), I end up getting them wrong.

There was many a time a had to edit notes at work because I’d typed acocunt instead of account!!!

GB81 · 12/03/2024 19:20

Definitely. Definatley every time, even though I know it’s wrong!

I still don't know when to use practise and when to use practice.

I have to replace with advice and advise to remember. Advise/advise sound different so seem easier to remember.

Yup. That. And I have to write it a lot (vets). But no one can spell it so on all records it's written d++ by everyone.

Ironically, I can spell most of the village names in deepest darkest North Wales (thanks Taid) but I still can't spell carribean or accomodation. I do also struggle with the ie words like wierd/weird. Every time 🤔

As a professional person at work I still have to tell myself that there is one Collar and two Sleeves in necessary!

Miscellaneous (thank you auto correct). Many shelves at work are labelled “untitled” “non-named” because the label maker doesn’t have auto correct
