Currently considering a relocation from London and quite a free bird on location. Would love to know where everyone would love to move to!

Edinburgh

Isle of Wight. Heard on the telly this morning that it gets more sun than Spain.
Here in Cheshire it always seems to be cold, wet and windy. Sick of it.

I'd stay in Cheshire. The IoW might be a little bit sunnier on average than say Bilbao, but wouldn't come anywhere near the rest of Spain.

bilgewater · 11/03/2024 18:34

I'd probably stay in London but opt for a different area than where we are now, which is nappy valley central. Our dc are now adults, so we no longer need five bedrooms or good schools!

unsync · 11/03/2024 18:53

Suffolk / Norfolk although I've always thought the Scilly Isles would be nice although I've never been there, ditto the Channel Islands.

@PleaseBeHappier North Yorkshire is very large. Which area of North Yorkshire you recommend?

Scarborough / Filey / Robin Hood's Bay area x

Findhorn

I moved from Oxfordshire to the NW Lakes a few years back and it’s been the best decision ever!!

I also moved from Oxfordshire to Cumbria, but South Lakes. Not as cheap, unfortunately! I do love it here, but I miss Oxford, and the weather is awful. I think I would never live in a city again, but I think I'd like to live on the outskirts of Oxford- somewhere pretty like Cumnor.

£11.5 million and no parking. No grass.
Right in the centre of London.
Not for me! Not even if you paid me.

I would turn that back garden into grass. And it is 5 mins from St James's Park and Green Park, where there is plenty of grass. But in reality, yes, I wouldn't dream of paying 11 mill for it with no parking!

What's that village in Northamptonshire where all the cottages are made of pastry?

Nurse... nurse!! She's out of bed again

You might be thinking of Melton Mowbray (where the pork pies come from) but that's in Leicestershire and where, as far as I know, the houses are perfectly normal.😂

York

@Dominik
We're headed there next year. I can't wait.

I grew up & still live in central England, as far as you can get from the sea in these islands, so I would love to live on the coast at some point. Some were lovely in south Devon perhaps, where the weather is decent, I could walk along the seafront & on the beach for hours but not be 3 hours drive from civilisation.

BinkyBeaufort · 11/03/2024 21:25

Dorset. Wonderful countryside, stunning coastline, pretty towns and villages. Please can I request a sea view?
Love the south west area, but prefer Dorset to Cornwall and Devon.

MN is a very middle class forum where the prevailing opinion is for unfettered immigration and multiculturalism. Hashtag BeKind and all that.

So this thread is quite telling in that if presented with a choice, most people would prefer to live in affluent, sparsely populated areas renowned for monoculture and traditional picture box villages. Who knew.

Enjoy these places whilst you can before the necessity to build build build becomes tangible.

Not me. I'd love to live in central London. Alas, I can't afford it.

Petrine · 12/03/2024 07:32

@Hartley99 Colchester isn’t a market town it is actually a city now. I agree with you that it is being ruined by development.

Clawdy · 12/03/2024 07:38

Cockermouth in Cumbria. Or Keswick. Love them both.

exiledfromcornwall · 12/03/2024 12:43

When we were heading back to Inverness after doing the North Coast 500, we stopped in an area called Black Isle, famous for its dolphin watching from Chanonry Point. In spite of its forbidding name I found myself thinking it would be a nice place to live. Inverness is only a short distance away, and then from there you have the trains across to the glorious west coast.

Anyone tempted by Cornwall, you might be driven mad trying to get from A to B in the summer, when roads get really congested with holiday traffic.

Findhorn

Buckingham Palace

...and if you ask nicely, I might let you rent a room

Zazu44 · 12/03/2024 13:40

We are looking to retire somewhere too in the next few years. Not sure where but feel pulled living within 2 hrs of family and moving right away. What would you do?

Where are you all living now?

LindorDoubleChoc · 12/03/2024 13:47

I would live in a Penthouse flat overlooking the Thames, given the choice.

Build build build is already more than tangible round here, hence my desire to leave.

And no, I'm not the sort of person you think I am.

The thing I didn't like about Cornwall is that walking along the coast is quite scary. You're on a slope on a dirt path with rocks in it. You know that if you stumble you will roll down the slope and over the cliff on to the rocks below.

Nobody else seemed to be bothered by it except me. Getting to Pednvounder beach it's like you have to go down a cliff. People didn't seem to have a problem, even taking their dogs down with them. It was worth it though. Although Porthcurno beach is just as nice and easier to get to.

New Forest - we moved here and love it!
