If you could live anywhere in the UK where would you go?

Currently considering a relocation from London and quite a free bird on location. Would love to know where everyone would love to move to!

South Molton , Devon :)

Penguinsa · 11/03/2024 10:47

Isles of Scilly

Chewbecca · 11/03/2024 10:54

I would stay where I am because people connections are important!

But if I didn't have that, I would definitely live on the South coast for the weather and ease of access to the continent.

GoodnightAdeline · 11/03/2024 10:59

Bakewell. I just love it! Anywhere round there.

DrearyLane · 11/03/2024 10:59

Whilst my heart says the Yorkshire or Northumberland coast, or maybe Cornwall, my increasingly cold head says stay close to the south coast, near to civilisation. Hampshire/Dorset.

cordeliachaseatemyhandbag · 11/03/2024 12:14

I'd want to split the spend into 2. It's so much better to have both a country and city home.

Somewhere with a sea view and a nice beach- not a cliff! Sunny, not round down, not woke, not too touristy, but welcoming to newcomers. I do t think such a place exists! City- North London, close to a park & the tube, and nice cafes, probably Primrose Hill/Hampstead area. Bloomsbury is nice too though.

DrJoanAllenby · 11/03/2024 12:15

Where I live now. The Gower Peninsula.

kerstina · 11/03/2024 12:39

Probably Cornwall or the Welsh coast. I love Anglesey in particular but think the weather would be better down South.

What an odd post. Northumberland and Yorkshire (how many cities are in Yorkshire- quite a few!) are not near 'civilisation'? Both areas arr extremely well connected, rich in culture as well as beautiful.

Toadonaroll · 11/03/2024 12:47

Dorset or Somerset .

cardibach · 11/03/2024 12:55

There are lots of considerations based in life stage etc, but I love where I live - Penarth (across the Bay from Cardiff). Lovely community feel. Easy reach of coast and mountains. City on the doorstep (10mins on the train into central Cardiff - bit longer by that route to the Bay with the Millenium Theatre and lots of food options, but it’s only about 10 mins by car). Lots of school options, both state and private. 30 mins from Cardiff airport, but Bristol easy enough. London train quite quick (if pricey). It’s not cheap by Welsh standards, but if you are moving from London…

Eh? Only the south east is civilised? What on earth do you mean?

Greebosmum · 11/03/2024 12:57

Norfolk, without a doubt.

MyLemonBee · 11/03/2024 12:58

Hebden Bridge. Beautiful town and really punches above its weight in terms of arts and culture

I had to laugh/smile @DrearyLane’s post and I get what she means - for me when you live outside London. It’s quite a sweet post really. People rlly shouldn’t get so offended 🙂

Edited

Why does anyone think someone who is a bit nonplussed by a stupid comment is offended?

Soho.
(But with holiday home near Grizedale Forest in Cumbria!)

Fizzadora · 11/03/2024 13:05

Isle of Wight. Heard on the telly this morning that it gets more sun than Spain.
Here in Cheshire it always seems to be cold, wet and windy. Sick of it.

Bit of a problem if you get old there and need access to a hospital!

Or maybe Gibraltar but that's not quite UK.

Beezknees · 11/03/2024 13:17

London. Sorry 😂 I like the hustle and bustle of a big city, going out for drinks and to museums and theatres, socialising. I lived by the sea for a while and found it so boring.

SorrowsPrayers · 11/03/2024 13:19

Ardnamurchan.

Dominik · 11/03/2024 13:23

York

suki1964 · 11/03/2024 13:25

Where I live now - The NE coast of Northern Ireland , a huge change from London and it took a couple of years to really settle, but I wouldn't live anywhere else now, well maybe Edinburgh

TwigletsAndRadishes · 11/03/2024 13:35

Completely overrated. It's SO overcrowded absolutely everywhere, from Kent all the way down to Bournemouth. Many previously lovely seaside towns feel urban, seedy and dirty now. Brighton is a perfect example. It's awful.

All across the south east and down to Southampton and Portsmouth the motorways are constantly full of massive trucks. the roads are in a truly awful state. The litter along the roadsides of appalling. Driving is stressful. Unless you need to go back and forth to France on at least a monthly basis, living close to the ports is just not worth the other associated hassles. And it's bloody expensive.
