The Best Sandwich?

I’ve been told I can have anything I want for lunch and I’ve said I want a really nice sandwich.

Can you give me your best sandwiches for inspiration please?

Currently ruminating on a Club Sandwich or a French Dip but don’t want to be too hasty!

Oh I think my answer of mature cheddar and ready salted crisps wasn’t the sort of sandwich you’re thinking of.

oooh french dip sounds good!

My favourite sandwiches are as follows;

• tahini, dates and honey in a white bread wrap
• egg mayonnaise and ice berg lettuce in white bread
• smoked hot gammon with pickles, coleslaw and mustard
• Proper 'Australian' salad sandwich with white bread, egg mayo, iceberg lettuce, grated carrots, cucumber, slice of cheese and sliced pickled beetroot (or pineapple- one of the other).
• brie, grapes and honey baguette

My two faves are Fish finger sandwich with melted cheddar, tartar sauce and salad leaves or Coronation chicken.

It’s so hard! I could happily eat every single sandwich mentioned (including cheddar and crisps @Mazuslongtoenail 😂)

Sandwiches are the best!

Fish finger sammich, definitely. But fancy fish fingers, not Birds Eye's. Toasted bread with a layer of either humous or cream cheese, sliced cheddar, fish fingers on top with tartare sauce or ketchup/mayo combo. Red onions and cucumbers and salad leaves. Delicious!

Steak and ale chutney is my current fave

Good quality granary bread with chunky hummus and grated carrot is delicious. Rocket /spinach / salad leaves and ready salted crisps on the side.....

If there was access to a good one, a pork banh mi would be my choice.

Pate and jam

I had a good bagel from m and s the other day . smoked salmon, lemon mayo, dill pickle, gently pickled red cabbage and something green, possibly rocket. I really enjoyed it.

I had to google French dip sandwich ( I thought French dip was a manicure). Really? It’s a thing? Soggy gravy bread?

Seedy/brown not too moist bread, buttered on one slice. The other slice: spread with horseradish sauce, several layers of thinly cut rare roast beef, room temperature tomato slices, rocket. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, put buttered slice on top. Having the horseradish against the beef and the butter against the rocket are essential.

How hungry are you?

For something light-feeling, my go-to is smoked salmon and cream cheese or perhaps goats cheese and plum jam with rocket.

Something heavier, I'd have to go with a meatball baguette with lots of stringy cheese.

And the best dessert sandwich, nutella and peanut butter.

Delicious soggy gravy bread! Actually I’m quite fussy about texture so I dip and scoff very quickly so it doesn’t have time to go soggy.

I’m leaning towards Coronation Chicken with red onion, lettuce, cucumber, mango chutney and poppadoms - undecided between a crusty ciabatta roll or soft bloomer bread?

My usual preference is soft white bloomer but with the mayo and mango chutney you might need something more robust?

I always use Sainsbury's Taste The DIfference chunky fish fingers for a fish finger sandwich. Yum.

You’re all too fancy for me. A fish finger sandwich on cheap white bread with ketchup is my choice.

Bacon and egg with an old fashioned oven bottom muffin

I love a vegetarian NY deli sandwich on rye.

Last week I had pulled pork on a toasted baguette, with caramelised onions, mayo and salad.

My MIL and I have just enjoyed a bacon sandwich on white bread - simple and delicious.
