Twitter is a binfire. Loads of people attacking her, even now. I hope she is OK.

Piggywaspushed · 12/03/2024 09:52

We can also be racist to stupid people. This makes it OK. As long as we think they are stupid.

Does this count even if the people you think are stupid went to Cambridge?

Piggywaspushed · 12/03/2024 10:03

I presume Tory HQ are trying to say it's only racism if one says her blackness is what makes her stupid. I am not sure how far away he was from that anyway!

Piggywaspushed · 12/03/2024 10:15

I guess Twitter crawling all over Abbott might give the transphobes a few days off their latest gleeful deliberate misgendering spree.
I honestly think some people are experimenting to see how far Musk will let them go safe in the knowledge the police won't act.

pointythings · 12/03/2024 10:20

PMQ will be interesting tomorrow.

DuncinToffee · 12/03/2024 10:21

Dawn Butler's reply to Hester's statement

1/2

No it is not rudness. It is deep-seated RACISM the fact that you want to hate ALL Black women is the very definition of prejudice and racism.

Calling for an MP to be shot and starved is sick, dangerous and shows a worrying level of violence.

The government has given you £millions contracts & access to our data. You talk about AI (Artificial Intelligence) you should be nowhere near government contracts or AI. @10DowningStreet this should worry us all.

@RishiSunak return donation and rescind all contracts.

William Hague tells @TimesRadio Frank Hester's comments about Diane Abbott ARE racist: "His comments yes do seem to be racist. I don't think I could deny, that, honestly." Hague adds Hester is "deeply sorry ...I think we should accept the apology."

£10m indeed buys you the freedom to say whatever you like

Sunak in search of a spine. Give the bloody money back or have done with it and just rename your party the BNP.

Most definitely. Oxbridge grad here with plenty of experience of this, sadly.

Oh no. He's made me laugh on so many occasions.

He's sharp as a whip too. I hope he recovers fully.

DuncinToffee · 12/03/2024 12:12

Oh wow, Lord Marland claims Frank Hester isn't a racist because does business with people in Jamaica and in the Far East.

'So he's not racist, because he's been to the Caribbean?'

@mrjamesob reacts to Lord Marland and Mel Stride's 'feeble' defence of donor Frank Hester after he said Diane Abbott made him 'want to hate all black women'.

OP posts:
newnamethanks · 12/03/2024 12:25

Of course. Bet he's got a black friend too.

IClaudine · 12/03/2024 12:47

Tories are speaking out now, saying that it was racist.

Sunak starting to look a bit isolated.

DuncinToffee · 12/03/2024 12:54

Alex Wickham

Situation at midday:

PMQs in 24 hours

PM is going to announce his new definition of extremism in 36 hours

Yet he is unable to define what’s wrong with extreme comments by his main donor

And won’t hand back the £10m he’s had off him

Wishing you a speedy recovery @MrTiddlesTheCat

@TooBigForMyBoots

Re far right parties getting votes. My understanding is that historically, countries where a large percentage of the population have a legitimate grievance (poverty or feeling of unfairness) are a risk factor for voting in far right representatives who nurse their grievances and stoke division so as to blame 'others' for their problems.

The cons have done a good job of increasing poverty and increasing the gap between highest and lowest paid. And they constantly blame other people for the people they have either created or exacerbated- migrants and economically inactive people being the chief examples. Sometime also the EU. Though this is getting much harder to justify.

It's a worry.

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/03/2024 09:46

Just to be clear we need to be tough on extremists just not the ones that call for a black female MP to be shot.

New Girl Facepalm GIF by HULU

Exactly
I'm so cross this morning. The racism is off the scale, what with this guy and 30p going on about needing to represent people like his (racist) parents.

Meanwhile we need new laws to target brown extremists.

Sunak in search of a spine. Give the bloody money back or have done with it and just rename your party the BNP.

Sunak will say that he doesn't recognise it as racism, and he is probably right that he and many in the Tory party don't think it is racism, because their racism is so deeply seated they don't even know they do it.

The thing I cannot understand (amongst many) is the peddled concept of 'taking our country back'. From whom and to where are they referring?

MrTiddlesTheCat · 12/03/2024 13:45

Thanks for all the well wishes. I'm still here, reading and enjoying all your informative posts.

Had the weirdest night last night. Couldn't get to sleep at all, the pain was so bad. Got to 4.00 am and decided to get up as it was now ok to take another painkiller. At which point I woke up, saw it was 6.30, realised I wasn't in pain and the whole night of pain and suffering was some weird morphine induced dream. FFS!

Taking it back from reason and people who are not reflexively racist apparently

newnamethanks · 12/03/2024 14:26

Back to the 1950s, to a Darling Buds of May eternal summer of cricket on the village green, warm beer and Eng er Land for the Eng er Lish. To wit, a total bloody fantasy that never was yet still persists in some weird collective genetic memory of the 30pLees of this world. Too much telly 30pLee.

I think it refers to taking back control from the unelected elite, such as David Cameron or Rishi Sunak.

Notonthestairs · 12/03/2024 14:51

You can see why Sunak might want to stay on Hester's good side - Hester's his lift. 🚁

From the most recent Register of Interests...

Rishi Sunak declared a £15,900 donation from The Phoenix Partnership (TPP) - owned by Frank Hester - for a "helicopter to fly to a political visit"

This was for a short-haul trip from Battersea to Leeds Bradford in November

LittleBowSheep · 12/03/2024 16:06

The silence from Sunak regarding Hester's comments is starting to become deafening. A man of inaction once again.
