Apparently Barack Obama is also meeting David Lammy

I'm hoping Obama has brought Sunak's visa and green card over. Maybe he can cadge a free plane trip to the USA.

bombastix · 18/03/2024 19:00

This country deserves better than this incompetent weak man who has only become PM because it goes with his head boy badge from Winchester. He should call an election; and move aside for someone who has the moral courage to make actual decisions. What kind of U.K. is he creating? It is grim. If he thinks the genie he released goes back in the bottle he is wrong. So is Badenoch. All of them complicit.

Obama looks like hope compared to this degraded PM and his shabby party

Jesus Christ this road is atrocious. There’s at least a half mile section that may be more pot hole than road. It seems to be getting worse by the day. I seem to remember Rishi declaring a war on potholes. I’m pretty sure the pot holes are winning. Wouldn’t be surprised if they beat the bus soon too.

Ah no, you are mistaken.
The war on potholes came without warning to my quiet corner of country lane at the weekend.
It was quite successful - by Rishi's standards, at least 4 potholes in a mile stretch have been filled, and to be fair they have done a good job. It is a shame they missed the other 94 though.

Is it a bit like Rishi's school rebuilding programme and we can hope for each school and pothole to be rebuilt once every 400 years?

Our town didn't need to put up the new 20mph signs, if you drive any faster, your tyres won't survive

Weren't they at Harvard together?

I just totally fail to begin to understand Sunak. His motivations etc. Strange man. Can't get a read on him

Also, not sure if I can be bothered to really.

I agree

I just cannot get my head round him. Why he's playing at PM etc

Thing is, the majority of the gender critical feminists who would like to see KB become PM still believe the guff the Tories spout about gender issues. It’s tempting to go along with someone who has achieved a cabinet position as a Black woman who isn’t afraid to state biological reality (not interested in sparking a debate about what is biological reality as I know there are posters on here who disagree with GC feminism and that’s ok). But the fact she has hand waved racism and violent threat to an opposition politician who is also a Black woman, one who paved the way for KB herself to become a high ranking politician should tell those GC feminists exactly what KB holds dear…..the advancement of KB.
I can’t bring myself to snark at women who want the TRA madness to stop, because I am one myself. I just don’t think the Tories are the ones to make that happen, because they could have done a lot to help over the past 10 years and they haven’t. It’s not Racism if they give your party millions and if you’re GC you run the risk of Gove’s “Prevent means whatever I want it to mean” bollocks turning its beady, intolerant eye on you.

I’d say the majority of women on the boards (or ‘GC feminists’ if a label is required) are ex Labour supporters, myself included.

We want Labour to do the right thing and stand up for women and children. So far they’ve done no such thing, well nothing of any substance. I’d vote for Labour again if they commit to biological women’s rights.

I wanted to correct the misunderstanding that GC women are by definition kemi Badenoch / Tory fan girls. They are not. But I for one appreciate somebody standing up for women’s biological rights, and she’s done that.

I’m not here to debate, I know it’s not / I’m not welcome to do that here, ‘GC’ dismayed disappointed- actually disgusted - ex-Labour supporter (member) that I am.

I am pretty sure Rishi doesn't know either.

A bit like managing to turn up at Boris' birthday party uninvited and stand in the corner not knowing it was a party.

Sunak is after all we are told a man of detail.

I missed KB on the morning media round this morning.

Was she standing up for women's rights by announcing that she was bringing a bill similar to Truss' on government time, thus much increasing its chances of success?

Interesting on apprenticeships

I'm old. I've lived through YOPs (Youth Opportunity Program) 1978 -1983 and YTS (Youth Training Scheme) 1983 -86

They were both cheap labour

DuncinToffee · 18/03/2024 19:34

Yeah, that will work....

Sunak allies aware that May 2 locals are a huge flashpoint, but they hope Susan Hall can get the PM out of jail by defeating Sadiq Khan against the odds in London

— that’d buy him time to get a Rwanda flight off and make it to autumn, supporters say…

I didn’t say they were, perhaps I didn’t put it as clearly as I could have. I was referring to the GC feminists who do think KB would be a good PM on the side of biological reality. I don’t think she will be. The Tories are flailing about trying to harvest votes and they will promise anything to get them. I can guarantee tumbleweeds if by some miracle they win a GE.

PM has tea with Obama in No 10, but @DavidLammy raises the stakes: he's having dinner with his old Harvard Law School alumni mate in London tonight

I’m tempted to go on holiday abroad just to see what it’s like in a country where the infrastructure isn’t falling apart. Maybe just to experience being in a moving vehicle where you aren’t bumping up and down over what is supposed to be a tarmac surface.

Did you get the big dragon pot hole filling in thing @JessS1990? They are promising that but it might take ‘a while’. And I can absolutely see them filling in a couple and leaving the rest. Or the filled bits being the best bit while the rest of the road crumbles around the filled pot holes.

I’d say the chances of a Rwanda flight taking off are about as high as the chances of Hall beating Khan in the mayoral election.

I think I would have believed "Man of mystery" more...
No one can figure out what he is doing.

Bloody hell. Apparently Sunak said today that he’s not interested in Westminster politics. 😱

I think he's made that blatantly obvious from the day he moved in Wink

I think Alex Wickham at Bloomberg is taking the piss now - according to him Number 10 are banking on Susan Hall winning mayoral election.

Now, I think I have that worked out.
Through his attention to detail he has listed all possible policies used by other politicans ever on a board and then he puts a spinner on top and sees where it lands for today's relaunch.

Well now the congestion charge has been introduced and people are living through how awful it is particularly when combined with LTNs I should have thought that Khan was toast.

newnamethanks · 18/03/2024 20:27

Some people appear to believe that KB is a woman of conviction and principle. If you think her recent media appearances have confirmed you in that belief then you are doomed to disappointment.
