Mothering Sunday - Keeping it real

Whilst upstairs sorting out my 3 year old's poo explosion, I come downstairs to find my 2 year old had projectile vomited over himself, his hair, his clothes and the carpet. That won't be going on social media.

Children. Keeping it real since forever.

What are your 'keeping it real' experiences today?

I can't have kids, or adopt.

DH knows how painful Mother's Day can be. So he got me a card from the Guinea pigs and a bunch of flowers.

He wrote an adorable message about how much they love being with me.

I'm seeing my mum later, DH is cooking her dinner of choice. She's bringing pudding. Because she brought pudding for my sister, from her kids. So she wants to give me pudding too.

That is so sweet. You must be the best guinea pig mama!

My Tesco delivery, booked for 10:00 and containing everything I needed to cook dinner for family including my mother didn't turn up. At 12:00 I finally managed to speak to someone who knew what was happening and found out that several drivers had phoned in sick. The shopping was picked and packed though, so I offered to drive to store and pick it up myself.

Got to the store and it was chaos. Waited 1.5hrs for someone to finally bring me my shopping. With hindsight I should have just cancelled the shop and gone round the store myself. But I didn't expect it to be this difficult.

Back home now, cooking dinner which will be late.

DC3 is at work, cooking other people's Sunday lunches. DC2 is away at university and has forgotten to message me. DC1 is here, but is full of cold and watching the rugby. DH has gone to see his DM. My DM is here, grumbling that dinner is late.

Mother's Day is great! 😁

I've got whooping cough at the grand old age of 40, and at 6am found my 16mo scooping shite out of his nappy and eating it.

Happy Mother's Day, everyone! 😅😅

Glad I could help! It's already passing into the family storybook, as my mum found it hilarious ("karma at last!" I heard her mutter) and posted it on the extended family WhatsApp group. Misery does indeed love company 😂 I've forgiven him as we've come to my SiLs and he's being very charming to her parents who, as a result, are now under the (false) impression that I'm a brilliant parent. Well done, poo child.

And SnapdragonToadflax no nits here (YET) but I feel you, I've got DDs verucca to file down later 🤢

@minmooch your drop scones made me well up a little. I have recipes that remind me so much of people I've lost and making them today sounds like such a meaningful way to mark the day. Much love to you and I hope you've had a lovely lunch with your boy.

Flowers to those of you having tough days and tough times (the properly tough ones, not the ones you can laugh about a few hours later)

OOH with the youngest, hot sweaty cuddles for the rest of the day peppered with questions whenever he thought of something (which was as soon as I attempted to read a page of my book) husband at the footy, one daughter at work and the other at uni. I'm so overstimulated I've just locked myself in the bedroom for half an hour with the lights off 😂

I had a lovely day .. DD13 bought me a coffee and cooked breakfast in bed. Bought me chocolates which we shared while chatting … then we went to my mums for a roast and shared the day with my mum and 98 year old nan, and my SIL & her 2 little ones ..
had a lovely roast and my DD entertained the little cousins so all the mums could chill…. My DD also made us all an amazing Mother’s Day cake! (She’s a real treasure)
Got home and sat watching Netflix…. She says ‘I don’t feel very well’…..
a few hours later she calls out ‘MUM’…….

poor kid had vomited all over the bathroom… then spent hours being sick into buckets which I ran back and forth emptying and cleaning.. as soon as I cleaned one the other needed doing again…we got to bed about 3am and spent of Monday sleeping…. As soon as she woke and ate the cycle started again….. she’s been off all week with a vomiting bug… which by some miracle I’ve avoided and so have everyone that was there with Sunday!
