Mothering Sunday - Keeping it real

Whilst upstairs sorting out my 3 year old's poo explosion, I come downstairs to find my 2 year old had projectile vomited over himself, his hair, his clothes and the carpet. That won't be going on social media.

Children. Keeping it real since forever.

What are your 'keeping it real' experiences today?

Everyone forgot until 12.30 when DH clearly read something online and produced 2 Moonpig cards he'd bought months before. DC have been barking orders and being rude to me all morning and I've so far one 4 loads of washing, put away 5 baskets of dry washing that have been left all week, polished school shoes and now come up to work as dh is insisting on listening to fantasy football YouTubers on loud volume which i cannof stand.

DH said he will cook a roast but very tempted to top the day off with a cheese sandwich purely because his roasts = 7 days of cleaning for me afterwards and him wanting a medal.

Cannot wait for work tomorrow. My plan is to skip out on a very early bus and spend the day eating croissants.

FusionChefGeoff · 10/03/2024 13:42

Bad night as DH out on the razz and I couldn't settle until he was home. Then woke repeatedly thanks to peri night sweats.

Woken at 7 on the dot by excitable DD9 to give me her beautiful card and homemade gift.

Up early then over to rugby club to watch her train in pissing rain and arctic wind then onto the BBq for a 2 hour volunteer stint!

DS11 at a sleepover so didn't see him until a quick cuddle at the bacon rolls!

Much better now though as in the bath and going out for dinner later.

Up at 5 chores done walked a mile in the rain to get DMS wee soaked clothes I forgot about when she hurt her back and couldn't move late last week.
Came home and started baking as our ds is visiting latér.
Only to find my immobile mum is coming out of hospital later.
Extended family all one upping who has done what and who will grab food.
I normally work 12 hours on mother's day.
I think it's easier 🤣🤣

Ugh. Have covid. DH is away this weekend. Had to remind my 13 year old DS it's Mother's Day. I've cleaned the bathroom, made DS breakfast and am now tidying cupboards! I'm staying off Facebook today as I'll probably throw my phone away when I see everyone's lovely Mother's Day photos 😂

All I'm seeing on Facebook is "memoriam" pictures of late mothers.

My mum is long departed and I have no children so I have no skin in the game.

Hope you feel better soon 💐

Doyouknowdanieltiger · 10/03/2024 13:49

No lie in as DH was up until 4 with new baby, although DD didn't get up until 8 so not too bad.

Poonami this morning and toddler tantrums, usual 😂

Bobskeleton · 10/03/2024 13:56

A mostly normal day of running around after a couple of toddlers, loved hearing my little girl randomly cheering "it's mothersss dayyy!"

Although this year has a element of sadness as my nan is dying so naturally my mum is struggling with this mother's day. so visited her this morning for lots of hugs and tea.

Goldenbear · 10/03/2024 13:56

My DD pulling the covers off my 17 year old DS at 1.30pm as I he still hasn't got up due to going to a party last night. My DD is nearly 13 and very organised, very creative and is great at cards/presents, she is permanently outraged by his "laziness". TBF he has bought me a card and present but due to lie in I have not seen it yet!😂

The 2year old decided not to call out for us as he usually does when he woke up very early. Instead he took off his own nappy, putting a large amount of poo all over his cotbed as he did. Then (and really, I almost applaud this 'no fucks given' attitude), having resolved the problem of the full nappy that was annoying him, he went back to sleep.

I was then woken a while later by his older sister screaming "THERE'S POO EVERYWHERE", running into our room and gagging and retching like she'd just drank a swamp, before DH and I cleaned up a poo covered toddler, pyjamas, bedsheets, teddies 🤢🤢🤢, who bawled because he hates showers and didn't see why he needed one AT ALL thank you very much, while DD provided constant dramatic commentary including how we were all going to get cholera.

God love the eldest though, who in the midst of this 7am chaos shouted "I'm not coming too close but happy Mother's Day I love you" from the safety of his top bunk

Have bundled two of them out to football with DH and am now letting the 2 year old win me over again. He's forgiven me for the shower, I haven't quite forgiven him for the stolen lie in yet

🤣I had that a month ago with my two year old. Luckily the poo was contained by his fleece baby grow which was promptly thrown away and small boy given a strip wash.

UtterlyOtterly · 10/03/2024 14:12

Lovely visits from the adult DC, nice cards and thoughtful gifts.

But actually we are having our shed reroofed next week so we all spent two hours in the rain having a good sort out and now have heaps of things for the tip and the charity shop.

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 10/03/2024 14:15

Some chocs and flowers and a lovely handmade card this morning from dd2. Dd1 is making a lovely pudding to have with dinner tonight. So far so good but have taken myself off for a decadent midday bath and pamper and the hot water has run out. Had to shout down to dh to put the boiler on. Overall can’t complain. 😄

Monkeybutt1 · 10/03/2024 14:24

Got a bunch of flowers, chocolates and a bottle of gin with a lovely card. Then made breakfast for everyone, stood in the pissing down rain watching sons footy team get battered, came home soaked his kit, made lunch, ran him a bath then put a wash on.
Am now sitting on my arse doing nothing else. We are going out for dinner later and in going to have wine and stuff myself silly 🤣

egowise · 10/03/2024 14:28

Son forgot. Daughter gave me a beautiful card and wreath she made at school with some 'vouchers' in for stuff for us to do, which was lovely.

She's now having a major strop, crying etc because I won't make her broth, I'm doing a pork roast instead.

TotheletterofthelawTHELETTER · 10/03/2024 14:49

I got a text from DD13 earlier to tell me my present was on the kitchen bench… a bottle of body spray in a scent she wanted for herself. No card and no other mention of the day.

Sunflowersinthewind · 10/03/2024 14:51

Lone parent. Got the cold from hell. Done ironing, housework and helped my son with his mountain of homework.

SockQueen · 10/03/2024 10:37

DS2 (4) had been prepped that I should have a lie in today. So at 7am he came into my room to tell me "Happy Mother's Day! Now you HAVE to stay in bed."

Nice thought, but I was managing to stay in bed just fine all by myself.

So cute!

MuggleMe · 10/03/2024 15:01

Think my 2 used up their good behaviour by 10am as it's been nonstop bickering since then. But I got breakfast on a tray and cards and chocs and a lie in.

DramaAlpaca · 10/03/2024 15:07

My DC are grown up. They, like their dad, aren't into sending cards but I got lovely WhatsApp messages from the older two and a bunch of daffodils from the garden from my youngest like he does every year. I really love that bunch of daffodils.

Xtraincome · 10/03/2024 15:08

My always thoughtful DH slept like he'd been dead 10 years 😆 tried to stir him like 3 times and the girls were starting to get hungry as were the pets. As the kettle started boiling, DH awoke and almost tripped on the dog gate coming down the stairs and was like "Shit babe I'm so sorry!" He made the bacon sarnies and coffee as planned but looked so tired 😆.

When I took me and DDs out with my mum he slept it off a bit more- he worked 50 hours this week to help us with our stupid escalating bills so he was swiftly forgiven. Got steak and Prosecco on the menu for dinner tonight so can't wait!

SnapdragonToadflax · 10/03/2024 15:10

I'm pretty sure we have nits 👍

Ohhelppp · 10/03/2024 15:14

Had a lovely morning doing my favourite hobby and a nice lunch. Got home and requested a bath, and no sooner than I’d turned the taps on, DS went and did a massive poo (toilet in bathroom), and since I’ve been in the bath he’s been backwards and forwards in and out, showing me how he can lasso his foam glider with a sticky stretchy hand from a party bag… he’s so proud of himself though it’s very cute. Not a peaceful relaxing experience for me though. Oh and the window is open due to aforementioned poo so it’s cold 🤣

ShinyPebble32 · 10/03/2024 15:42

I’m sitting in the freezing pissing rain while my dh does his hobby all day, with a poorly, recently vomiting dc asleep in the van.
I’m 2 hours from home and can’t just drive back, as my own car is currently sitting in a nearby hotel car park refusing to start, so we will have to stay another night up here and have that shitshow to sort in the morning. Best Mother’s Day ever.

Spencer0220 · 10/03/2024 11:05

I can't have kids, or adopt.

DH knows how painful Mother's Day can be. So he got me a card from the Guinea pigs and a bunch of flowers.

He wrote an adorable message about how much they love being with me.

I'm seeing my mum later, DH is cooking her dinner of choice. She's bringing pudding. Because she brought pudding for my sister, from her kids. So she wants to give me pudding too.

That’s so nice. Big love to the guineas x

wurtle · 10/03/2024 15:46

I could have slept in but ds13 decided to come to our bedroom and inform us that it's seven o'clock. Then he went away. Thanks for telling me.

justthecat · 10/03/2024 15:50

I spent one Mother's Day in a + e as youngest son had put a pea up his nose
