What position do you sleep , I can't get comfortable

I have been finding it really hard to get comfortable. I like to sleep on my side. But the top of my shoulder ends up hurting and painful then I turn over and it's the same the other side. Then I try sleeping on my stomach for a bit . But then my should is still painful when I try to position it.

I have a memory foam mattress it was 600 so not cheap. Well nlt to me anyway. I have had it around 18 months. I have had the sleep position problem for around 2 weeks. I don't think its the mattress as I hsbe been fine till recently.

Also what can I used to prop myself up in bed. It's just for if I'm reading or something. I don't want to sit fully up . Pillows are not really doing it .

I sleep on my right side curled up. I do have a good mattress. When I sleep in other beds for a night I really feel it!

LaWench · 09/03/2024 16:35

I'm a side sleeper, I like a foam orthopaedic pillow with the high ridge that supports the neck. I have a big softer pillow that goes on top when I'm sitting up in bed. It works OK because of the hard foam pillow. Can't advise on the mattress I love a super soft mattress that is probably ruining my spine but so comfy.

Side sleeper pillow from Amazon. It is wonderful!

Our mattress is probably about due for replacement but I find I have to switch sides during the night or my hip gets sore. The bigger problem is where to put my arms. If I curl them up to my face my upper arms end up aching but nothing else seems to work either.

WildFlowerBees · 09/03/2024 18:41

I have an otty pillow, I sleep on my side and have a knackered shoulder so I put a pillow along the side of me and rest my gammy arm on that, takes the pressure off my shoulder and it's quite comfortable.

AhBiscuits · 09/03/2024 18:43

I used to always sleep on my tummy but I can't now, it hurts my back. I sleep on my side but like this.

I sleep on my side but have a cushion I cuddle under my top arm/elbow to raise it or my shoulders/back get sore.

Caswallonthefox · 09/03/2024 19:05

I sleep on my side. I have a foam topped mattress and a mattress topper on top of that.
I tried a side sleeping pillow but because it's like sleeping on a square rock I gave up.
I have 2 feather pillows for my head and use a fat plushy cat as an arm rest to keep my shoulder level. It also helped when I badly damaged my elbow while walking downstairs.
You can get wedges that are angled, that fit on the bed.

HarrietWorries · 09/03/2024 19:09

I got this silent night v shaped pillow and it's lush. I love it. I sleep on my side, sort of hugging it.

HumphreyCobblers · 09/03/2024 19:13

When I came get comfortable in bed it is because my pelvis is twisted. I visit the chiropractor and it feels so much better afterwards and I get a brilliant sleep.

Emily1583 · 09/03/2024 19:25

I'm a feral position sleeper. Good position for cuddling too.

Chocolatespreadknife · 09/03/2024 19:33

I’m a side sleeper and I’ve been having this exact same problem recently. I’ve actually been considering getting a full body pregnancy pillow - I bloody loved it when pregnant and I think the extra support around hips and arms would be really helpful. I find putting a cushion between my knees helps to keep my pelvis in line but my arms, shoulders and hips have started to get really painful.

@Emily1583 what's a feral position. I don't want to cuddle anyone though 🤣

My DD is 14 and I still use a pregnancy pillow! It's makes it so comfortable and stops my shoulder and hips rolling inwards. If I have a night away, I never sleep because I miss it

I'm definitely going to get one . Do you mean the long one ?

Flat on my back is the only way I feel fully relaxed.

I mean, I think this might be all the validation I need to put my plan into practice 😂 Once next payday rolls around I’m buying one…
and investigating side sleeping pillows. I’ve yet to find a pillow that stays comfortable for more than a few weeks, no matter how much they cost.

Yes a long straight one. It honestly makes the world of difference. So much so that my other half now also sleeps with one too 😂

I was also a 2 pillow person, but was getting neck ache and have felt so much better since i switched to one only.

Do it! Genuinely don't think you'll regret it

This is the sort of thing I have. I mentioned side sleeper pillow from Amazon earlier and just to avoid confusion, it's this shape in memory foam that works for me!

Get a v shaped pillow for reading they’re sometimes called pregnancy pillows. How did you sleep as a baby? Maybe try different pillows for general sleeping as well?

I found this shape uncomfortable due to my ears

Caswallonthefox · 10/03/2024 22:21

This is my current try. Although I'm having problems due to always using feather pillows, in the past, which can be squished.
