Is this new? I've never seen it before. How do you thank someone one a thread? Are posters thanking everyone who commented on the thread? Is it the same as liking a comment on Fb or similar 🤔. So many questions.

There's a little icon under each post that says thanks. You just click it on any post you want to thank. I doubt people are thanking everyone. Just the posts they agree with but you can do whatever you want to.

shoppingshamed · 06/03/2024 20:11

At the risk of staying the obvious you click on the button called thanks 😂

LadyKenya · 06/03/2024 20:13

I use it as a like/ agreement thing.

ShirleyPhallus · 06/03/2024 20:13

I actually like it. It gives acknowledgment when you’ve taken time to post something usually useful / funny etc

My highest count for thanks was in the 40s and it was a post about dishwashers 😆

There isn't any be on the app though, so not everyone will have that

AmusedMaker · 06/03/2024 20:15

I use it as a like & a thank you.

TomatoketchupfromMandS · 06/03/2024 20:16

I think it’s lovely.

I dont really understand why anyone uses the app, it doesn't seem to have many features

Alwaystired23 · 06/03/2024 20:20

I can't see this on my app. I also can't see the voting. I guess it's to do with the app provider?

Exactly. It's why I don't like it. It's a back door to a 'like' button, which has been resisted for years.

What am I missing - why do you use the app when it has so little functionality, I'm intrigued

ScottBakula · 06/03/2024 20:23

It's a way of acknowledgement for a nice comet or useful tip . It's on the icons on the bottom of each post on my view, using android phone and not on mn app.

I have just thanked you , tap on the icon and my name will pop up

EarringsandLipstick · 06/03/2024 20:23

I don't care too much about those, other than the Edit feature. I really wish the app had that!

For me, I'm mostly on my phone, app works better, and easier to navigate. There is so much pointless rubbish on the website.

ScottBakula · 06/03/2024 20:27

This is what it looks like to me

I don't have a thanks button but thanks😄.

I use it when I want to say thanks. For example if I ask a question and a poster answers it.

I don't know, really. I just thought the app was the was the best thing to do when I was downloading apps onto my phone. What do other people do when using MN on their phones? Do you use the website?

minipie · 06/03/2024 20:36

I quite like the thanks button.

I absolutely do not need an update email from Mumsnet about the thanks I have received.

Thanks.

Alwaystired23 · 06/03/2024 20:36

WhatFlavourIsIt · 06/03/2024 20:43

@minipie - yep agreed I don't need an email. Turned off notifications now. I was waiting on a work email today & twice I got an email notification, stopped what I was doing to check & it was bloody mumsnet with some useless info.

OP posts:
Lentilweaver · 06/03/2024 20:44

I got 4 yesterday and today! Didnt think I had said anything very illuminating! Clearly I spend too much time on here.

I'd rather use the app without the features than look at that god awful cluttered website.

RoseNy · 06/03/2024 20:47

@shoppingshamed

I can manage without thanking people - the app has what is needed to read and post. I don't think much more is required.

WhatWouldJeevesDo · 06/03/2024 20:47

Occasionally I thank some random post instead of the watching icon (on my phone).

Catsmere · 06/03/2024 20:48

EarringsandLipstick · 06/03/2024 20:21

Exactly. It's why I don't like it. It's a back door to a 'like' button, which has been resisted for years.

The difference is that only you and the poster you're thanking can see they've been thanked, so it can't turn into a popularity contest.
