What gives you joy?

A fun one to brighten the mood on yet another rainy day.....

Day in day out for me it's my car. I like looking at it thinking about it, obviously driving it. It gives me irrational joy. Even when I'm at work and can't see it, if I see one similar I smile. I think the fixation has to do with my adhd

What makes your day better that others don't feel the same about?

I'm going to read this later and fill up my joy cup!

spiritof73 · 06/03/2024 20:29

My gorgeous puppy, my horses and seeing my children grow into wonderful young adults.

I also love it when my football team scores a goal!!

A spring day will bright sunshine can also make me feel joyful and happy

Tucking both my children in at night and staring at their perfect faces for a while... note when they are asleep 😂

I'm giggling because if I did this 100% they'd wake 🤣

mrssunshinexxx · 06/03/2024 20:33

@Sae3005 😂

@TobiasForgesContactLense Nice job. They look great.

Joy for me is clean washing flapping on the line and watching the birds in the garden. Also swimming in the sea on a warm, still day.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 06/03/2024 20:38

Having an afternoon nap in freshly washed sheets.

A new episode of my favourite podcast, I save them for walking the dogs, and use my B-list podcasts for doing housework. Brings me so much joy!

Oh which ones do you listen to?

EdgarsTale · 06/03/2024 20:55

Sitting in my garden watching the birds
My DP bringing me a cup of tea in bed in the morning
An almond croissant
Walking by or swimming in the sea
Sharing a lovely meal with my DP

onwardandupwards · 06/03/2024 21:10
  • Cuddling up in bed with my 2 youngest and reading them a story,
  • My eldest son (19 today) giving me a hug
  • Our monthly cheeseboard nights that me and my dd ( 23) have, where we have a lovely catch up and glass of wine *Smelling fabric softners ( I just love them!)

-My lovely garden that is full of flowers and birdsong right now. -Feeling the warm sun on my face. -a full teapot, just the weight of it is reassuring and it pours beautifully. -the sheer satisfaction of a complete jigsaw. -freshly baked scones, eaten still warm. -having a little dance to a great tune (even better if it's from my teenage years when I was too self-conscious to dance) -finding a lovely thing to give to a friend, that you know will be absolutely perfect for them.

I feel like since having kids (and never having a minute away from them) I really squeeze every second of joy out of everything now, even things that aren’t that joyous! Things like going for a run feel like such a luxury, particularly if it’s a sunny day with a podcast in. That is peak joy for me 🤣
My horse and my dog too and I feel like I really don’t get the time to spend with them anymore and they’re both old, so every second feels like I need to appreciate it.
Obviously my kids bring me most of my joy in a day too!

Judellie · 06/03/2024 22:15

My teenagers
Sunshine
Blue skies
Chocolate
Books by my favourite authors
Trains (as if I'm on a train, then I'm on holiday)
My family and friends

LaWench · 06/03/2024 22:21

A delicious creamy coffee in the warm morning sun in the quiet sunroom. It's my bliss point. It makes me happy before work.

The scales showing my weight losses and fitting into clothes that I haven't been able to wear in 5 yrs.

Mummyratbag · 06/03/2024 22:24

My children
Being with my family (DH, parents and wider family)
Being or chatting to good friends
My dog
Late spring when it's properly warm, but not hot.
Blossom /flowers
Sunsets
Starry skies
The sun twinkling on the sea
Walking where we live (rural) in the early evening, when lights are coming on in houses and the sky/landscape looks like a cosy watercolour (not explaining this well).
Holidays
Christmas Eve
Chocolate
Clean sheets

Thank you for starting this - it's good to think about these things!

Camping.

something2say · 06/03/2024 22:35

Making clear progress with my to do list.

Animals and the weather.

Knowing I've genuinely helped someone. I help survivors of abuse and really concentrate on their headspace so that I can help them properly.

But my greatest joy is music. I play instruments well enough to dig in and control what I put out, and the joy of doing it I cant describe. When all my responsibilities have been met and I get time to dive in, I feel at my freest, just me and the notes, and I have to deliver each one perfectly. It's my best thing in the world.

goingtotown · 06/03/2024 22:50

Apart from blue skies, chocolate, & losing a few pounds, having nothing in my diary for a week gives me great pleasure.

bakedpotatoforlunch · 06/03/2024 23:10

I'm lucky enough to live very near the sea and it's quiet enough here to hear the low rumble of the waves at night. I'm listening to it now as I lie in bed writing this. That gives me real joy.

Also thinking back to the days when our children were very young and we'd look in to see that they were settled at bedtime and find that they were fast asleep. They looked so peaceful and beautiful. They are grown now and they still give me joy.

Finding a specially good fossil while I am weeding. We seem to have a very fossiliferous seam of limestone running through the garden, one in five stones seems to have some sort of fossil, though most of them are just coral patterns or the occasional bit of shell. I have found two very well preserved bits of a spiny Echinoid, which are washed and sitting on the bookshelves.

Some quarrymen found a nearly intact dinosaur just down the road in 1850, so I am hopeful.🫰🏻🦕
