Feeling indecisive about something incredibly trivial. Can you help me decide?

I melted my last surviving spatula on the hob last night and need a new one.

Would you go to the shop 6 miles away where you're 95% certain they have the exact one you need. Or would you go to the same shop 2 miles away, but you're only 50/50 that they have it?

The closest shop is 2 miles in the opposite direction, making the trip 8 miles to the 95% sure shop if the 50/50 shop doesn't have it.

Amazon?

NeverTalksToStrangers2 · 05/03/2024 07:46

Order online.

ConfusedSheila · 05/03/2024 07:46

Call the shop and ask if they have it in stock?

Otherwise, it doesn't matter, either is fine

Tlolljs · 05/03/2024 07:50

Can you look online to see if it’s in stock? Or go old school and phone them?

Somethinglikethiswouldbegood · 05/03/2024 07:50

Call the nearest shop first

Geebray · 05/03/2024 07:50

I would phone or email both shops.

MsMcGonagall · 05/03/2024 07:51

6 miles to the 95% certain shop unless there are other factors at play.

Eg

You only have time today for the 2 mile journey and would need to wait til later for the 6 mile journey

or

You have other shopping missions in either location

or

There's something like difficult parking that's a real faff at the 6 mile location

Camsclownshoes · 05/03/2024 07:51

Road Trip!!

GreenRaven · 05/03/2024 07:53

I would go to the two mile away shop and if its not there, order on line, and not go six miles, unless I was going there anyway. What if you walked or bussed six miles and they didn't have it?

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 05/03/2024 07:55

It depends on how you would be travelling. In the car - 6 miles.

Nannyfannybanny · 05/03/2024 07:56

Ring and check

BaronessBomburst · 05/03/2024 07:57

I would buy a wooden one. They don't melt.

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 05/03/2024 07:57

I'd travel 6 miles for a decent spatula. I can't seem to find one that does what it's supposed to. They are all either too thick or inflexible, or too scratchy or they melt
6 miles is nothing!

OurfriendsintheNE · 05/03/2024 07:57

Have you got a wooden spoon? If so don’t bother making a special trip for a spatula, just get one next time you’re at a supermarket with home stuff or in town.

ChickFlickkss · 05/03/2024 07:59

I can't check stock online unfortunately. They usually don't answer the phone but am going to try calling just in case.

As PPs have said, call the close one first. If you don't want to do that, then go and if they don't have it, they are likely to be able to order it in for you. Even if you have to go back that's only 8 miles instead of 12. But if you need it today then go to the 6 miles one.

This is the holy grail of silicone spatulas. Not too bendy and not too stiff. I may have slightly overreacted to its demise yesterday. The more I think about it, the more I realise I can't live without it and I probably should just do the 6 miles.

I need a decent spatula! What brand is it please?

DuploTrain · 05/03/2024 08:18

If this is a marketing ploy it is very cunning - I’m also desperate to know of this mythical spatula.

Kelly51 · 05/03/2024 08:34

6 miles is hardly an arduous journey, go get the spatula!

ChickFlickkss · 05/03/2024 08:36

The spatula is an enigma.

Its in asda but weirdly had no price tag Just a barcode stuck on it and is thrown haphazardly amongst lesser utensils that have price tags. If I find it, I will take a picture and where its located in store 🙂

@BaronessBomburst "I would buy a wooden one. They don't melt."

They do catch fire though.....

CurlewKate · 05/03/2024 08:49

@NotbloodyGivingupYet "6 miles is nothing!"

On Mumsnet it's a day's journey. And costs £20 in petrol.

heldinadream · 05/03/2024 09:47

It's in Asda? So a) stock up on a load of other Asda non perishables and b) if it's really your perfect spatula buy a lifetime's supply, twenty of them? Never run out of the perfect spatula again! 😂

ChickFlickkss · 05/03/2024 10:51

Neither shop had it 😔
Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

Came home with a karahi, 6 balti dishes and some dishwasher salt.
