Just that really - did you get your DH a gift to give him on your wedding day?

I was shopping with a friend and was having a look at some things in a jewellers and mentioned what it was for and she said that was absolutely not a thing and it’s not normal to give a gift 😅🙈

I did. Each to their own! If you want to, do!

fwiw, my DH loves his present

Sconeswithnutella · 02/03/2024 13:42

🤣🤣 I was his gift. I’ve never heard of this.

yourlobster · 02/03/2024 13:44

I'm the fucking gift. 😂

I honestly can't remember so probably not. I know we got thank you token presents for the members of the wedding party like best man, bridesmaids etc but I don't remember DH and I getting each other anything.

Mrsjayy · 02/03/2024 13:44

yes we did I bought him a kilt pin and he bought me earrings.

@GoingRoundInOvals Yeah this was my thinking but she seemed genuinely shocked at the idea of it 😂

Yes - Some really fancy rum, as he loves it, and some gorgeous cufflinks. He didn't get them, though - it was a bit hectic in the run up and he didn't see them in the room he was getting ready in.

I don't think it's essential at all; but it's also not unusual.

CheshireCat1 · 02/03/2024 13:46

I did, it was something sentimental.

Moveoverdarlin · 02/03/2024 13:46

I bought him a pair of Ray Bans for our honeymoon.

Overtheatlantic · 02/03/2024 13:46

He bought me pearls and I bought him cufflinks. We both wore them on the day. It felt very special.

Inyourwildestdreams · 02/03/2024 13:47

@FionnulaTheCooler Yeah I knew most people tend to do that 😊 We’re not having a wedding party, just DH and I 😊

@Mrsjayy I was thinking along the lines of some “nice” engraved cuff links or a watch

BeaRF75 · 02/03/2024 13:48

Yes - it was a wedding ring.

Illpickthatup · 02/03/2024 13:48

I got him cufflinks. They both had a compass on them, one had the coordinates of where we got engaged with "will you?" on the other side and the other had the coordinates of our wedding venue with "I do" on the other side.

I also got him a pocket watch engraved with "On your wedding day Lil' bro". His brother had passed away earlier in the year and always called him "Lil' bro".

cufflinks sound perfect, we wore our gifts recently and our child's wedding so it went full circle.

crumblingschools · 02/03/2024 13:50

I bought him cufflinks that matched the colour scheme which also matched my dress (which he didn’t know). Gave them to FIL to give to DH whilst they were getting ready but there was a mix up so he ended up wearing ones MIL had given him on a significant birthday and only found out about my gift later

yourlobster · 02/03/2024 13:44

I'm the fucking gift. 😂

This made me laugh out loud!

I bought him a Raymond Weiss watch and he got me diamond earrings.

mitogoshi · 02/03/2024 13:55

No the first time and not planning on it when I marry again shortly. We'll buy rings that will be exchanged of course. I am planning on a special birthday present which is in the intervening weeks but not mentioning what in case he is a secret Mumsnet userGrin (highly doubtful as he can't work X formally Twitter!)

A token gift could be nice I suppose but not "a thing"

mitogoshi · 02/03/2024 13:59

In my case he'll be wearing his dads gold cufflinks and his grandfathers watch which are far more appropriate. I want to come up with something that pays tribute to his mum who has passed away

perfectionistchaos · 02/03/2024 14:00

I sent him a red rose on the morning of our wedding. But the wedding rings were the gift as far as I was concerned.

DarkForces · 02/03/2024 14:01

He got to marry me. The gift that keeps on giving!

Commonsenseisnotsocommon · 02/03/2024 14:02

Yes, I bought him 2 suits and bought me platinum diamond earrings, things we could use in daily life rather than just on the wedding day. We still enjoy them.

quietnightmare · 02/03/2024 14:57

Yes. My vagina. He loved it

PieonaBarm · 02/03/2024 16:05

Yes an expensive watch from a manufacturer he'd been looking at in shop windows the entire time we'd been together. I know it's not a normal thing to do, but for various reasons it was right for him and for us.

He didn't get me anything, but then I'd had a rock of a diamond 6 months previously from him, so I was ok for a present!

AnneButNotHathaway · 04/03/2024 11:37

I didn't as we just never considered it necessary, I guess? I do anniversary smartshow 3d slideshows with our photos in addition to actual gifts though, so this should count 😄
