What's an accident waiting to happen in your house? (light hearted)

Friend brought me new slippers at Christmas, they are lovely and purple, but slippy on the stairs, I'm going to have 'a fall' one morning and be found with the cat trying to eat me as I haven't made it to his food bowl.

We have extra tall cupboards in new kitchen, suggested on here as a great thing, the upper cupboard door is at exact head smashing height for DH - I just miss it.

He leaves that door open when fetching down the dog food, regularly hear a bang and 'oh fuck' from the kitchen - one day he'll get a black eye from it.

(hate having to write light hearted....but nothing too gruesome please)

I think DC is dsypraxic and so everything is a hazard. We currently have foam pipe insulation on all our door handles as they are head height for her and she keeps walking into them.

BlackeyedSusan · 01/03/2024 09:33

DD. Dyspraxic tendencies.
Me. Hypermobile and a bit wobbly.

You name it, one of us could manage it.

Socks on drawer handles at mums house. For legs not head but they hurt.

Like above, I'm very successful at finding hazards where others would be fine! This morning already I've spilt coffee all over my slipper because I misjudged how wide the door was open and banged into it.

Eventually DS2 is going to be heavy enough that his love of the hoover (which he finds excellent for pulling up to stand, and then has interesting tubes to play with) will end up with the hoover tipping over...

GandTtwice · 01/03/2024 10:07

An elderly dog that loves to stand up just as you step over her. And yet after all this time we are all daft enough to think that this time she won't do it while we're carrying a cup of tea or plate of food!

My dog, 1 inch behind me when I get something from the oven. Or my daughter "storing" her shoes on the stairs.

BrassicaBabe · 01/03/2024 17:30

Me with menopausal rage 🤣

Scaffoldingisugly · 01/03/2024 17:32

My dead body will be found amongst a pile of ddogs at the bottom of the stairs. Because they all insist on all following me down. Every opportunity.. Luckily a few months ago they were outside when I fell on a loose carpet and fractured my foot. Christmas on crutches was great...

K0OLA1D · 01/03/2024 17:35

If DS2 keeps taking his socks off and leaving them in random places, he is at risk of being fed them for his tea!!!

But an actual accident is either me falling over either a dog or cat and dislocating a body part! It's a nightly risk!

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 01/03/2024 17:37

I bought my sister giant spider slippers one Christmas.

The legs got tangled together on her maiden voyage down her stairs, and I very nearly became an only child.

In my house, it’ll be death by daft dog, as although he’s a plump 35kg, he’s also the same cream colour as our flooring. And far prefers to pretend to be a roundabout than tuck himself along a wall out of the way.

ExtraDay · 01/03/2024 17:45

Take your pick.

Death by stair-coloured cat.
Death by dog lead entanglement.

Death by cat jumping up to see what's cooking, rotating in mid air to flip the pan handle, bouncing off the chopping board and sending the knife flying into my outstretched hand accompanied by splatter of hot oil. Actually, no, that's an accident we've already had. Ouch.

alwaysonadiet1 · 01/03/2024 17:46

DH's floordrobe/stairdrobe. Grrrrrrr.

SageRosemary · 01/03/2024 17:46

Ah, yes "bungalow slippers" (as I like to call them, anything without a back), they get donated straight to the charity shop so that someone who owns a bungalow can get a bargain. I'm shamelessly posh when it comes to slippers, I like a pair by Nordika.

DDog is adorable but is the biggest trip hazard in the house closely followed by DFamily's runners.

itsachange2024 · 01/03/2024 17:47

A cat who stalks me. Especially on the stairs

piscofrisco · 01/03/2024 17:50

My dh has just purchased a dart board...

Toooldtoworry · 01/03/2024 17:53

The leaning tower of washing that I am yet to put away as DH is oblivious to it.

twingiraffes · 01/03/2024 17:55

BrassicaBabe · 01/03/2024 17:30

Me with menopausal rage 🤣

Likewise!

Also, the overflowing laundry basket at the top of the stairs, the fallout from which is now all over the landing, and is what we in the trade call a trip hazard.

PuppyMonkey · 01/03/2024 17:59

Cat likes to hang out half way up the stairs. Usually when I’m walking down with a wash basket full of clothes so I can’t see properly.

Renamed · 01/03/2024 18:00

I am about to absent mindedly purchase a bottle of wine, and if it is nice may accidentally drink it all…

FizzyStream · 01/03/2024 18:01

Cat doing the zoomies up and down the stairs as we're walking down them. One day she is going to trip us up and like OP we'll be found at the bottom of the stairs half eaten by said hungry cat.

FizzyStream · 01/03/2024 18:01

Ha didn't even read the previous cat and stair related comments!

C1N1C · 01/03/2024 18:03

Cats and crystal ornaments. It's like they plot ways to pull them down.

SometimesIchangemyname · 01/03/2024 18:06

Well I have a loft hatch that opens right above the stairwell in my three storey house. I go down the loft stairs white knuckled on the rickety steel ladder.

myavocadoisgrowing · 01/03/2024 18:15

25 years in our house, youngest DS was 3 when moved in.

WE HAVE NO BANNISTERS 😱😱😱😱

I know that I would be strung up if I dared put our house up for sale as it is a death trap according to MN.

Strangely enough no one has yet fallen down the stairs. I suspect because I drilled it into DC how dangerous it could potentially be.

Still found them sword fighting on the stairs at one point...🤷‍♀️

Acinonyx2 · 01/03/2024 18:15

Cat underfoot, on stairs especially.
