Want loads, ended up with 4, 2 of each. Now at a place where we can consider fostering.

blahblahx · 01/03/2024 09:28

Wanted 1 and got 1!

Ikeatears · 01/03/2024 09:32

Sort of. I always wanted 4. Dsd was 3 when I met her. Dh and I have 3 dc together. By the time I had my third, dsd was so much a part of my family that I felt we had 4 children.
If people ask how many dc we have, I always say "4 between us". Our 4 are all close, despite quite large age gaps and I love that as they're all becoming adults (youngest is 13 and next is 18), that they're forming friendships with each other, independent of us. They're definitely a foursome and all I ever wanted.

Sunnnybunny72 · 01/03/2024 09:33

Yes. Two. At the age I wanted with the gap I wanted.
Very lucky.

SomersetTart · 01/03/2024 09:34

@Wednesdaysotherchild So very sorry for you. That must have been very hard to bear.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 01/03/2024 09:39

Wanted four, had one. Would have liked another, but think I was crazy believing I could cope with four!

Stickthatupyourdojo · 01/03/2024 09:39

Wanted 3, have 2. Had the pregnancies I lost when we first started trying for baby 2 happened, our second baby would be our 3rd. As it is we have a 6.5 year age gap between our two children. Wistful for those middle babies I never got to hold but also so thankful we have the two that we have.

Grabbing2024ByTheBalls · 01/03/2024 09:53

Always imagined I'd have 2 children.

I've carried 2 of my own, and got a DSC who's with us full time.

They're the bonus kid I didn't know I needed Smile

SomethingOnce · 01/03/2024 09:57

Would’ve liked four or five. Very grateful for three.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 01/03/2024 10:01

Planned 2, got 1. Now that the 1 is in the teens, it's worked out well and they're happy being an only. Lots of benefits. It was tough in the younger years though, and I have a nagging worry about the burden of elderly parents in later years (if we're so fortunate). All in all, right now we have a nice life though and things like financial support for uni etc. won't be a struggle.

DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 01/03/2024 10:06

Wanted 2 or 3 (if I'd had one of each I'd have had a 3rd but know so many third of the same sex kids that felt their parents didn't want them and were only trying for the other sex even when this really wasn't true that I wouldn't have had a 3rd if 1 & 2 were the same sex).
But fertility issues mean we only have one. Massively grateful that we do have one but a little sad that he is an only. My friend kids that are the same ages as my losses would be are hitting miles stones graduation, starting uni, GCSEs etc and it does bring home that we could have been at those points but aren't.
Love my crazy boy to bits but wish that all his firsts weren't also lasts.

BroughttoyoubyBerocca · 01/03/2024 10:22

Wanted 2, have one. Secondary infertility

mindutopia · 01/03/2024 10:23

Yes, I always wanted 2 and I have 2 (boy and girl). Absolutely done and I felt that way since the day dc2 was born.

SouthLondonMum22 · 01/03/2024 10:23

Wanted 2.

Pregnant with twins so will have 3. Sneaky extra baby.

SomePosters · 01/03/2024 10:23

Wanted 1. Had 1 and inherited 1

I love him but I’d give anything to be able to send him back to his real mum

MrsSkylerWhite · 01/03/2024 10:24

Hoped for 2, one of each, got them. 9 year gap but we got there eventually 😁

Laughtillyoupee · 01/03/2024 11:30

Wanted a large family but thought it would be 0 after teenage illness. Surprise pregnancy in late 20's (after 5 years of marriage and no contraception) kickstarted something in my body and they kept on coming... have 4 and that's exactly the right number for me Smile

TooOldForThisNonsense · 01/03/2024 11:34

Wanted 3

Once I had the second I realised I was happy with 2

airforsharon · 01/03/2024 11:40

Charlie2121 · 01/03/2024 07:18

Initially wanted 0 until I reached late 30’s and then decided I wanted 1. Now have 1 and couldn’t be any happier.

This was me, dc1 arrived when i was 37, after being adamant until i was 35 i didn't want children. DC1 was the model baby so we decided to try for another before i got much older - then had twins at 39.
I love having 3 but if you'd told 35 year old me that's how life would go i'd have laughed like a drain.

Moier · 01/03/2024 11:44

Wanted two daughters.. got two daughters...8 year gap.. had problems after first.
Wanted at least one Grandson.. got four Grandsons .#wellblessed

AFreshCleanStart · 01/03/2024 11:46

Wanted 2, then #2 brought his twin brother with him so had 3. Very happy 😊 (but no more!!!)

Mmmmgravy · 01/03/2024 11:48

Wanted three, had three. Two boys, one girl. Briefly considered having a forth but changed my mind 😂

FacingTheWall · 01/03/2024 11:51

Wanted more than one, have two. Would happily have had more if we’d been in a better financial position and I hadn’t been so ill when pregnant.

FizzyWizzyBubbles · 01/03/2024 11:52

Wanted 2. Got 4.

myphoneisbroken · 01/03/2024 11:55

Wanted 2 or more. Had 1. I'm happy with that now. As PPs have said there are some real upsides to having an only (and time has healed the sadness I felt about not having more).
