Wanted 0, got 2.

Symposium · 01/03/2024 08:08

Wanted 2. Got 3 as second was twins!

NewYearNewMeMamma · 01/03/2024 08:08

I wanted 3, DH wanted 2, we've got 4 🤣

bookworm14 · 01/03/2024 08:10

Had vaguely assumed I’d have two, then had one and never got the urge for any more. Very happy with one.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 01/03/2024 08:14

Initially I wanted none.

I have two.

My husband wanted three or four!

LookingGlass99 · 01/03/2024 08:15

I always just 'assumed' I'd have 2. My DH died in an accident around the time we started trying to conceive sadly. I was 35 by the time I went on to meet my now DH who had 2 teens already from his previous marriage and had already had the snip. Reversals are possible but by that point it all felt too late and by then I wasn't 💯 sure it was what I even really wanted anymore.
Some days I'm sad I don't have any DC, but it was the hand I was dealt. I'm greatful I have a lovely DH, home and life though.

It’s mad anyone wants or plans this, it’s totally uncontrollable

It’s really not “totally uncontrollable”!

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 01/03/2024 08:17

Would have liked an even number of 4, DH was happy with 2. Failed contraceptives led to a surprise pregnancy that ended in miscarriage-was devastated, so after recovering tried for number 3. But that took so long I decided I’d aged out (was 40 when he was born) and didn’t want to chance either another miscarriage or their or my health to push my luck to 4.

Multiple births happen and infertility and age happen. But most women of child bearing age do have some autonomy and control over their size of their family.

Same 🤣

FiveShelties · 01/03/2024 08:21

Wanted one, but could not have children, so none.

It’s not ‘totally uncontrollable’ for the majority of women. I have 3 planned children, spaced exactly as desired, no unplanned pregnancies. My sisters and friends the same. I am of course aware that not everyone is as fortunate and some women have to deal with infertility and losses. My daughter is currently undergoing IVF treatment.

Maybe the fact that some people believe it’s mad to plan this would somewhat account for the vast number of threads on here from women who are dealing with unplanned pregnancy and chaotic circumstances.

mirror245 · 01/03/2024 08:29

Always thought I'd have 3, but have 1 after fertility issues. Honestly I'm so glad how things worked out. 1 is under rated. Get to be a parent but also quickly get your 'life' back. No big hit to career or finances and we have a fantastic life.

elliejjtiny · 01/03/2024 08:33

Wanted 4, got 5.

flatpack1 · 01/03/2024 08:37

Wanted none but DH wanted children so had 3

LaWench · 01/03/2024 08:43

Yes, I think so. I didn't have a fixed number of children in my mind. We just stopped when we felt we were done at 2. Felt right, most of our family have 2 children.

youdontneedtopoo · 01/03/2024 08:44

Initially said two, then felt open to considering a third. Have three and it's perfect 💖

elQuintoConyo · 01/03/2024 08:48

Wanted 0. Got to mid-30s, thought we'd try for one and see how it goes. Stopped at 1. Delighted with the 1 we have.

I wanted one and had one, best decision I ever made. I'm nearly 50 now and found it completely controllable.

Unless you have fertility issues I struggle to see how it is uncontrollable??
I have 2 and planned to have 2

Twoshoesnewshoes · 01/03/2024 08:53

I just wanted ‘some’, and had 3, which was great.

Multiple births too, someone might plan two children and have three (dh was worried about this!) but otherwise I agree!

So that's means you shouldn't plan? Bit of an odd way to look at things. How many do you have?

Elephantswillnever · 01/03/2024 09:01

I / we planned 3 but twins so have 4.

Freefree · 01/03/2024 09:01

Have the amount I wanted originally but I now want one more!
I won't though as I'm nearing 40 and dh not on board plus we really really can't afford another sadly.
