Anyone applied for a Passport lately?

How long does it take? Do they still offer the 1 day turn around service? It's just a straightforward renewal but the online application is terrifying what is the most painless and fast way to get this done?!

Any advice would be really appreciated, I am quiet stressed out by it!

Around a week.

Harvestfestivalknickers · 28/02/2024 15:16

Mine took 4 days, received it about 10 days ago.

Queijo · 28/02/2024 15:17

Renewed mine and applied for DD’s first one and both back within a week. Was v painless!

Vanillabourbon · 28/02/2024 15:17

I renewed our passports a couple of weeks ago & got mine back in 3 days & my daughters in 5 days.

stilldazed · 28/02/2024 15:18

Yes.

FortyFacedFuckers · 28/02/2024 15:23

I done the online service & got it within a week this was around 2 weeks ago, super easy to do online

ItsMintUpNorth · 28/02/2024 15:24

Ours have just taken 8 days using the standard online application.

Pharos · 28/02/2024 15:27

This website is really helpful.

I've done two online for dcs lately, it involved sending off their Irish ones too and both were back within a fortnight.

@stilldazed What is it you're worried about? Have you used the current online portal before?
It's much easier than in the past when you had to fill it out then print off. If you have the passport details it's incredibly straightforward.

LucyLaundry · 28/02/2024 15:42

What fear? It's literally a form asking questions you will know all the answers to!

Igiveupagain · 28/02/2024 17:55

Did my online application on Feb 12th posted old passport back that day and new passport on Feb 16th, so really quick

Captainspaulding · 28/02/2024 18:05

Done my sons online a few weeks ago. Was worried about doing it online as always used forms previously but did it anyway as plenty of time. It was so easy to do..not loads of questions like on the paper forms. It took 9 days from applying getting it. Would have been quicker but I had documents to send.

Battenbergsquare · 28/02/2024 18:09

Mine took 4 days using the online service at beginning of Feb and had added complication of having to send off my marriage cert too (which arrived back in one piece!)

Taylormiffed · 28/02/2024 18:09

Mine and my teens on-line renewals have just taken a week.
Although to be precise, mine was actually end of January, submitted on the Monday and new passport delivered at home on Friday lunchtime. Standard service.

PickAChew · 28/02/2024 18:11

This is reassuring as DH has applied to renew his, today. The hardest part was taking a photo. He has pale eyes and lashes and the portal kept insisting he had his eyes closed!

Moonlaserbearwolf · 28/02/2024 18:11

Mine has just taken about a week to come back. The online form is so easy - just go to the gov.uk website and follow the instructions.

If you struggle to take an acceptable photo (the website will tell you if it’s likely to be accepted) then go to the nearest pharmacy or photographic shop that offers passport photos. I did this and it took 5 minutes (cost £10). After taking the photo, they email you a link which takes you straight to the correct website to fill in the form.

Nothing to be afraid of - it’s much easier than I remember it being in the past.

IggyAce · 28/02/2024 18:16

Just done mine, dh and 2 dcs, renewal for us all. Took around 7 days for mine and dh and just over that for dcs as they needed their id’s confirming.

SmartiesParty · 28/02/2024 18:22

Applied for a first child passport and got it back in a week

Useruser1 · 28/02/2024 18:27

I renewed 2 kids ones
First was done in 6 days
Second needed "proof of parental rights" meaning send them birth certificate etc. Took just over 2 weeks for that one

Oleo24 · 28/02/2024 18:30

About a week - but they can’t start processing it until you send them your old passport so you need to send it off asap after submitting online.

To speed up the process, make sure you have your photo ready.

The rest is easy. Just type in old passport number etc. Did that in about 5 mins only!

BringMeTea · 28/02/2024 18:32

Less than a week.

Wannabie · 28/02/2024 18:33

My renewal took 5 days from application to having it in my hand, DP renewal 7 days, DS (first passport and adopted) took two and a half weeks, possibly due to adoption aspect.
